Found on a GM website on the internets, what we have here is a preliminary VIN key for the upcoming 2010 Saab 9-5. Click to enlarge.
Now, I say it's a preliminary VIN decoder because there are some details that we know have changed from this.
- Russelsheim's out the door.
- The 2.9l diesel is out the door as well as GM gave up on it.
- There's most likely going to be a 1.6T engine as well, which isn't mentioned here.
Still, it's a little bit of insider fun for those prospective new 9-5 owners of the future.

Nothing on the GM service or Saab information yet on 2010 vehicles - except Camaro so far.
Have to keep my eyes on that one.
Regarding the 2,9 Diesel that supposedly are out; Is it realy necessary to have a V6 TiD? For the sake of Image maybe?

Otherwise we see the expected 160bhp and 190bhp diesels.
On the gasoline side we have the SIDI engine which should have less than 220 bhp
the 2L with 220bhp, the V6 with 260bhp and a V6 with (lets hope) 325bhp.
Interesting and funny, the 7th digit it's no more the gearbox type but the restraint system.
Does somebody know if this engine is a DI engine?
I didn't know the Aero engine 2.8L (280bhp) is a SIDI engine.
I've misunderstood this link

My guess is that the D-coded engine has about 180 hp.
We 'll wait and see. Can't wait untill the IAA in september.
Hope they use a soft Turbo 2L rather than the 1.6L, I think using only 2 different engines is less expensive than 3 :)
And this engine had a short live.
Wasn't a bad engine though.
Good fuel economy.
We should ask mr. Forster or Demant where they're keeping this engine.
The diesels worry me though... 160hp and 190 hp diesels leave a gap on the higher powered side of things where the Germans have some pretty strong offerings... maybe SAAB can source the VM V6 engine independently from GM and offer a diesel at around 250hp?
One of the big differences with the 2liters from Saab, is a new GenII block, twinscroll turbo,VVT and other features, but all those are thanks to Saab. This engine and some of it tech, appeared in some Media.GM documents since 2004, and part of its tech, was used by Saab in the 2.0 liters and the Global V6 family and concretly the 2.8t
The Insignia Engine is the same as the used in the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Opel GT and this one, the SIDI engine. let's see what Saab developed for the 9-5 engine.
