There will be a 9-5 Estate for 2010

June 2, 2009 in Saabology

Something that I’ve seen mentioned in comments a few times is the assertion that Saab won’t have a 9-5 wagon in 2010.
2010 will, of course, see an all-new Saab 9-5 sedan released, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t be a 9-5 wagon for sale.
Back when Saab made the transition from the classic 900 to the NG900 in 1994, Saab continued to sell the C900 convertible in that year and the NG900 Convertible came in 1995.
I believe it will be the same story next year with the Saab 9-5 wagon. Whilst the sedan will be the all-new model, the Saab 9-5 wagon that is available now should be continuing on for another year, until the all new wagon is ready for market.
Like you, I’m not sure why it has to be this way, but that’s the way I believe it’s going to go. Saab have mentioned that they have four new models coming in the next 18 months. These are the 9-3x, the 9-5 sedan, the 9-4x and the 9-5 wagon – and they’re believed to be coming in that order, which should carry us through to around the end of 2010 (i.e. the start of the 2011 model year).
You might note that the 2010 UK market information I posted last week includes information on new colors for the Saab 9-5 wagon, but has no information for the sedan.
With a new car in the offing and already available as a sedan, I’m not sure that they’ll sell many units of the wagon at all, but it should still be available.
