These just in from EduSaab and Tiago.
It seems there are some 9-5′s testing in Spain at the moment…..

Some passing info from the guy who took the shots at cochespias – he wasn’t sure what sort of engine was in the car, but apparently it made no sound that he could hear and could well have been a hybrid.
–
Personally, whilst I know that Saab are probably working on hybrid technology, I don’t think it would have been installed in one of these bodies. Remember, there’s no factory making 9-5 bodies on a production line. All these 9-5 mules would have been hand made and I think Saab would have confined them to production-level cars with production engines at this point. That’s just my thought on the hybrid thing.

So, it looks like the driver is talking on a cell phone — does that mean still no blue tooth? lol…
I can’t wait to see this new 9-5 on the road.
I just got my MY03 9-5 out of service today — it is bittersweet. The car is still fabulous, but it has been riddled with so many problems. I have just 3k left of the 100k mile CPO warranty left and not sure if I can afford to keep it after it expires. I’ve been through a fuel tank, two fuel pumps, two coolant pumps, three alternators, four batteries, a DI cassette replacement, a SID replacement, a cup holder replacement, and a pair of emblem replacements. And that’s just the major stuff. Knock on feux wood that I don’t have a sludge problem.
If only, if only… If only I’d be able to get the GM Employee GMS discount on the all-new 9-5 would I be able to buy one spanking new. This reveal is almost as exciting as the MY08 9-3 redo we witnessed on TS!
Looks great.
Very close to the CGI recently let out.
Its a diesel engine 180bhp. The colleague that did the pictures said me the plate number and I checked the details of the car.
I will receive more pictures of the car. I imagine is Tiago, well it has another nickname in cochespias
regards
That front looks fantastic! Better than expected, really clean.
to be honest i am kind of underwhelmed right now. imo it just looks to similar and has the same feel with the current 9-5. if the Dame edna one wasnt released i would like this a lot, as it would have been more fresh and new.
sorry for posting again, but since there are no fog lights, this might be a base version. heres hoping the aero version has a more differentiated look, similar to the pre 08 9-3 with the lower rocker panels, and better looking wheels.
I agree mo, base version.
Tiago is another colleague of cochespias.net forum Here in Spain.
More pics to come, tomorrow.
regards
It has fog lights, check them in this Higher resolution pics…

I can describe it in one word.
Clean.
And I like it, though I’m hoping the Aero has a little more aggressive lower air dam.
so beautiful. especially for a base version!
i can only imagine what the aero looks like!
i LIKE :], good job Saab
The base version must come without bluetooth? Lucky he wasn’t driving in Oz, he would have been booked!
I like, hopefully the Aero will be suitably aggressive looking but I really like what I’m seeing here (it even has the nesbit nose on the hood).
It looks more than adequate to do battle with the Audis and Acuras of the world, let’s hope Saab prices it so it has more than a fighting chance.
Looks very nice – clean and subtle without being boring.
I’m sure this is a base version – the Aero will look a lot more aggressive.
Looks great. Modern, clean and balanced. The new line-up will really start to stand out with this.
The photographer must have used a pretty long focal lens (>300mm???)
The perspective compression is pretty evident and makes the shape looks distorted.
I’ll reserve judgement until full reveal.
Nice looking design. A step back from the more provocative 2006 front end (which I also liked!). Can’t wait to see the Aero version in imola red.
I REALLY hope that the front end on the Aero will not look like this. It is clean but SCREAMS base model. I hope the Aero will look more like the 9X Air up front. If the Aero does not look better than this Saab will be in trouble!
Beautiful!!!
So it DEFINITELY has that slightly notched hoodline at the top of the grille, like on the 9-4X:

Must say I’m pretty ‘underwhelmed’ by these too
Hopefully as people have already said, this is a base model and we must also bear in mind that these are angles not usually seen in ‘real life’ as it cruises by on the street.
Hopefully there’s more to come…
What we are all seeing is only a small glimpse of what is yet to follow. No doubt that the first samples will not have the full Monty sort of speaking and the whole experience. What remains critical and key is how soon these vehicles will be brought to market. One of the main reasons why sales caved in so badly with the 07-08 (and even 09) AWDs variants has been due to the inability to bring these new 9-3s to market. That killed many new buyers let alone existing ones that went the A way as we’ve heard before. I do hope that the same will not happen with the new 9-5 otherwise we will see another crumbling era in the making and many patient buyers heading elsewhere.
Not sure why there are so many people saying it looks boring… I think it looks AMAZING. Clean. Simple. Swedish.
From what I can say, this IS a baseline front-end, without fog lights.
And yes the Aero Front will look different much more AeroX/9X
Underwhelmed – that’s right. A little more AeroX in that front section would be really hot. And necessary in my opinion.
Gorgeous. Just what a Saab needs to look like – no fuss, just pure and clean. Like it a lot!!
awesome! cant wait:)
Niiiice
And as Talladegan wrote.. The angle of the shots is not a good one. Just you wait till the official Saab pictures are brought out in the open.. You must see the whole car to judge it. We know that the car has got a realy nice stance from pictures we have already seen.. Get the full image and I believe the NG9-5 will be sexy as H.
Cheers/Tom
(My Scania has not got XWD.. But a 6-cyl turbo 280hp engine.. And a Griffin.. So it´s a little bit like the Turbo X
I like it alot! The design is very clean and modern looking. Most people are not fans of the notch-up design, but I think it smart of Saab not to go the way of Audi and have it lower into the front bumper area even more-so. It also gives it a unique design, that makes it stand out. The Aero version will no doubt be more aggressive looking that’s for sure. But people this isn’t even a full frontal showing of the car and it already looks very clean and promising when comparing to the likes of Audi and BMW’s.
Tompa +1
I think if we pice together the front aspect plus the rear end spyshot we have a good idea what the car will look like. Its the middle bit we need to see to complete the picture and I, for one, cant wait.
Zippy +1
I hope foglights are hidden close to the turn signals, as I’d hate to see SAAB being stingy in vehicle content the way BMW and Mercedes are.
Regarding the front end, call me crazy but the 1st thing I thought of were the 9-X and 9-X Air concepts.
Either that interior shot is taken from a long distance or it’s from a funky angle, otherwise that’s one monstrous steering wheel! I just sat in a new Griffin edition, and if I grip the top of the wheel my elbow is at the bottom. That guy must have T-Rex tiny forearms, or else the wheel is huge in the side shot- then again, it looks normal in the frontal shot through the windshield. Go figure.
Come on, Pedro- BMW gives you the windshield and all the air in the car for free! What more could you want for $45k?
It is illegal to phone when driving
The foglight of this “base” front will be round beneath the turn signal lights.

I am now convinced that the front of the car is OK.
But the most camouflaged is the rear part of the car and I can’t wait until I know what is hidden behind plastics and tape. Pity we have to wait until September to know what the designers have “invented” there. It must be really interesting as they do all possible efforts to hide it.
I will maybe lucky enough to see it in Trollhättan this week end ???..check on my flickr page

Guys look at the badging on the hood, I know it’s taped over but the thing under the tape (in my opimion) looks like a shieldform, not the round griffin logo!!!
@ John Carter – Haha, that was funny! You know here in Portugal BMW makes you pay 40 Euro for a no-seatbelt-on sound warning and 70 Euro for folding headrests on the 1-series? Lunacy!
@ Me – As long as they’re standard equipment, I’m happy.
