Saab O The Weekend - Classic 900

I hope you're all having a relaxing weekend.

After a few blog posts in the morning, I got out into the garage with the young fella and we fitted some new interior bits to the MX-5. A little bit of bling and some better steering feel go a long long way. I did some shopping with the Mrs, took in some art, made some dinner and am now sitting down to a good game of football.

A perfect winter's day if you ask me. I hope your Saturday has been as nice.

To top my day off, I'll share these photos. They were found this morning on my Flickr feed and as soon as I saw them I figured they were prime candidates for feature here on the site.

There's just something incredibly special about the presence of the classic Saab 900, isn't there?

I'm full of admiration for those who dedicate themselves to owning these cars and maintaining them in tip-top condition like this. It's so important to Saab as a culture to have prime examples of these unique cars in people's garages.

I just wish I was better at keeping one myself.

This car's been on the site before. The owner calls himself Bennorz on Flickr and he's got a wonderful portfolio of images there.

There is something magical about the C900.

Personaly I prefer the original orange indicators and A set of Super Aero rims always looks amazing.

Speaking of rims.. I like the Turbo X rims but I would so love for Saab to make 18 and 19" Super Aero´s again. They would look good on any modern Saab too.

SWade & Tompa +1

SWade, glad you had an enjoyable day!

sweet. Can someone name the model year when the 900 hood lost the 99 indent? My 1987 900 2-dr hatch will always be the Classic silhouette.

BTW, a scan of June vehicle sales in the U.S. seems to show a trend away from the 4-dr sedan. Maybe people are thinking they will have to live in their car by next year, but I think the 900 hatch cubic volume and ease of loading can make a comeback in the U.S.

Last Tuesday, the cashier at TJs had a 1984 Saab he could not afford to fix. Almost made him an offer on the spot, but thought maybe just go look for a 1987-92.

Which would be the best model and year 900 to seek out?

Karen: 1986 (Like mine) was the last 900 "Bullnose" year. The 1987 updates rust more in the hood and wheelarches (three of my arches looks like brand spankin new after 23 years)as I have experianced it. Why I do not know. Maybe the Bullnose owner took and take more care of their gems?
Best year? Well that´s easy... Last year of the respective versions.

None: Thanks :-)

I´m going to have an hour of fun tomorrow fitting Super Aeros on to a 9-3 and a 9-5 in PhotoShop. I´ll send the pics over to Swade and he´ll judge if to publish or not.

Cheers/Tom

Wow, Swade!
That Flickr link is so worth checking out!
Thank you for the link, and nice job, Bennorz.

A white 900 turbo convertible and Benfica's (and Sweden's) stiker Mats Magnusson are the reason I fell in love with Saab. Magnusson was one of my favourite football players (soccer for you in the USA) and he had a white 900 turbo convertible I used to see all the time I went to the Guincho beach (Cascais, near Lisbon)... 1st time I noticed Saabs existed, been a fan ever since.

thanks for the kind words, guys!

to be honest, the pics make it look nicer than it is. there is still some stuff left to fix before it will be truly in tip-top condition :>
