Saab 9-3x color palette

by Swade on October 21, 2009

My interest was piqued by Till’s viewing of a Saab 9-3x in Jet Black. I’d seen 9-3x’s in red and in white, but nothing other than that.
So off to the Saab.co.uk site (and a big hello to Jonathan Nash today) I went and made use of their Build Your Saab 9-3x function to check out the color palette:
Click to enlarge. I’m leaning towards Glacier Silver or Carbon Grey….

Can’t help but it’s like always jetblack for me…

So, if you like colour, you’re left to decide between a blue that may as well be black and a bright red?
It reminds me of a friend who was a tech at Mercedes telling me that “everything here is grey.” As he was saying this the mechanics were wearing grey uniforms, the walls were grey, the floor was grey, and every car in the garage was some shade of grey.
Apparently the tech support from Stuttgart was grey as well (“could be this, could be that, we’re not sure. Change parts randomly until the problem goes away”).
Needless to say he quit that job. There’s only so much grey a man can take.

I’m with you Tom Laser Red is the way to go.
My second option would be Monte Carlo Yellow, but I’m somehow missing the color. ;-)

Why is colors on cars today just X different shades of grey??? With black and white at each end of the scale. It’s so boring! Bring back some color, please!
For me it’s one of the white colors thats suits the car best. The red does’nt match the color on the plastic. My 2cent only having seen the car online.

I’m in total agreement with your observation on the colors.
Your comment made me think of Beat poetry, haha.

Jet black with 18 inch wheels, parchment leather interior that would be the Dogs wotsits!! I think the chrome, silver and the black would work very well together.

You can paint these cars with red Poker dots, for all I care. All I see are boring, uninteresting car designs.
I think it time for so-call Saab lover to scream to rafter for a Saab cars that distinguishable by more than the badge on the hood and trunk. It just amazes me that Saab enthusiast have accepted and found a way to celebrate these boring GM Saabs. In the same way Porsche 914 & 944 were rejected by the Porsche enthusiast, so too should have then rebadged Saabs. But come to think of it, given the crappy sales fugures, maybe they have been.

I think the red and white colours looks great when seeing them in metal. Drove the 9-3x TTID some days ago with automatic gearbox. It was a great ride and I love the TTID engine and the handling and comfort were great on very small curvy roads. I can go with one without the XWD for sure even though I know some people really need it.

Wow! It looks so good on Jet Black and red. But my choise of colour would be Snow Silver, no doubt. I had one SC of that colour and it 1st looked very good on every angles & lightning 2nd was very easy to keep clean (I drive quite a lot on gravel roads).
Someone at SAAB, please consider the 9-3x diesel XWD once again.. please!!!

He, another great opportunity to re-state my pledge to Saab to offer the option of painting cars in any colour, like Audi does. if I want brewster green or peacock blue (just to name two old rolls royce colours), give me what i want! That is premium! And it adds to the revenue as well. Audi bills ~2200 € (which is still cheaper than a good re-paint).

I’m glad to see Titan Grey back – didn’t that go away for awhile?

13 spazzz2002 October 22, 2009 at 1:59 am

Didn’t we have pictures of Pepper Green somewhere? This color reminds me of driving in the forest… perfect for the XWD and the extra ground clearance and protective plastic materials…

All those grey cars are sad and flavorless . But that’s what people want unfortunately

I like Carbon Grey (that’s the colour of my 9-5 Aero) very Q-car.
And Jonathan Nash is a Very, very nice man.

Given a choice, Arctic White. That Glacier Silver looks a fair bit like my Glacier Blue SS – only not as distinctive.

Saab should offer a primer-only option with all the trim pieces in sealed bags. Then when you buy one, the dealership sends it over to the bodyshop for whatever color you want. The trim pieces could be prepped for powdercoating or chroming. Let your imaginations run wild.
I’d go for ice blue metallic with polished titanium trim.

You’re right! We did see it in that green color, which was quite nice. I wonder what happened to it?

20 Me October 22, 2009 at 9:19 am

SAAB doesn’t offer Pepper Green for any MY’10 car, whatsoever.
Maybe this colour is copyrighted by GM ;)

@MikeInBrklyn -
Most Saab enthusiasts DO cry out for a return to genuine Saab design without GM ready-made pieces and other various restrictions. The product Saab has made under GM hasn’t been terrible… though it DID take me a bit to get used to it. Think of it as your favorite sports team that used to be able to easily compete against the big guys and then they were under new management and weren’t playing very well as a result. It’s hard to give up on your team and walk away if you’re an attached fan. So you watch the games and find there’re some things that the new management couldn’t bastardize, and it makes you hopeful that things will change. Saab hasn’t really FULLY been liberated from GM yet, so it’s probably going to be a few years before we see any drastic changes.
@Smoke_Jaguar4 -
Brilliant idea! I’m doubtful of a Saab custom shop for customers, or a partnership with a paint shop… But still, what an option that would be!

BRING BACK COLORS!!!

23 Martin October 22, 2009 at 5:42 pm

P.S. There are 3 possible ways to bring back colors:
* More colors in stock
* As VW does: a color that is available for any model can be ordered (on special request) for any other model
* As Audi does: charge an extra number of Euros/Dollars for any color you want (some 2000 Euros in the Audi case)

24 Me October 22, 2009 at 7:37 pm

There is also a 4th way.
Offering more than 2 colors and some shades of gray. ;)
