Saab 9-4x still getting tested

by Swade on October 26, 2009

Autoweek.nl have just published photos – recently snapped – of the Saab 9-4x getting trailered somewhere for testing.
Many have noticed that it’s been quiet on the 9-4x front lately. Hopefully these couple of photos are an indication that things are indeed still in motion with the Saab 9-4x.

There are a few more photos at the link, above.
When i asked the Saab people at Frankfurt about it, they mentioned that it is still all-systems-go for this vehicle. The reason for the quietness is because there’s nothing new to see or to talk about. We’ve seen the concept, which is basically very similar to the production vehicle, and we know it’ll be part of the four-cars-in-18-months timetable.

They probably didn’t wanted to steal the 9-5′s thunder by presenting the 9-4X so soon after the NG 9-5. Or possibly they are still searching for a adequate diesel to launch in Europe, possibly even in the US.

Look at the sign above the Saab. “autogas” Are the 9-4X a gas Saab like the upcoming 9-3? specuation mode: ON

…the pictures are made in Germany near Puttgarden. The 9-4x is either on the way to or from Sweden. The SUV pulling the trailer has Belgian numbers.

If I understand the text right the guys that made the pictures where on their way to Denmark, so I would expect the 9-4X was on the way home to Sweden.
The 9-4X has a swedish plate (GWU 412), can somebody get the information of this plate.
crille, the SAAB is on a trailer, why should it need to refuel??

You are right Daniel, 209kw(280hp) is a quite awkward output value, as the engines in the caddy have 265hp (3.0 non-Turbo) or 300hp (2.8 Turbo).

I’ll bet Saab dealers (in the US, at least) wish they would quit testing the 9-4x and start building it. Cadillac has been selling its version for some time, and is advertising it heavily. The reviews I have seen have been positive, and the latest AutoWeek spoke favorably about the turbo 2.8 which is now available.

9 Chris October 27, 2009 at 3:10 am

If they wait any longer, this style will look outdated two years after it’s released.

10 SaabKen October 27, 2009 at 5:13 am

:-( sadly agrees.
Even as a 2011/12 MY model, it will have been THREE FULL YEARS since introduced as a concept at the 2008 NAIAS !

11 GM October 27, 2009 at 5:51 am

I may be in the minority, but I’m actually excited about this vehicle. I think it would be a great alternative to the Audi Q5, BMW X3, and hideous MB GLK. I’m even more excited that the new SAAB brass has been taking it slow with this vehicle, meaning there’s a greater possiblility for last-minute K-egg tweeks. Can we get a projected release date for the US?

12 MitchbSC October 27, 2009 at 7:48 am

My local dealer is GMC/Buick/Etc combo with Saab (in South Carolina, USA). The Saab SUVs drove a lot of sales for him. Folks would come in and look at the Trollblazer. They’d leave with a 9-3 or a 9-5.

13 Charles October 27, 2009 at 2:15 pm

I think the 9-4x is just plain attractive. Even with all the camo, just the shape looks great.

14 SaabKen October 27, 2009 at 3:58 pm

I’m in total agreement with you.
I just wish it won’t be 50% stale by the time it comes out, by which time the current Q5, latest RX350, X3, RDX, GLK and XC60 will be nearing their mid-cycle refresh.

15 Ryan December 16, 2009 at 9:02 am

Look at the car pulling the 9-4x. Its a Ford! I wonder why! Just because Saab is going to be sold, does not mean that GM doesnt own them. Strange.
