Saab in the USA - Is your dealership staying?

RE-POSTED - I'm working on a full list of all 218 dealers so that I can reconcile and see how many we haven't heard from, whether negative or positive. I'll hopefully have that together in the next day or so.

Your efforts in respect of this task are greatly appreciated.

------

Saab Cars North America sent out yea/nay letters to dealers last week and the news services tell us that 81 dealers were not retained, with 137 dealers remaining to join the new Saab organisation when the deal is finalised.

The big question now is who are those dealers?

Saab Cars North America aren't talking, so it's up to us to see how many we can confirm on our own.

Perhaps you could call your local dealer and just ask them if they're staying or going? Add your findings in comments and I'll try and keep the list here up to date as we go along.

UPDATE - Now organised alphabetically by state, to make scanning the list easier.

Parkfield Saab in Rochelle Park, New Jersey has escaped the executioner's axe. Here's their press release:

The new era of Saab is coming quickly and Parkfield Saab has been officially chosen to be part of this exciting new adventure. The confidence that Saab Cars North America (SCNA) shows in selecting a dealer like Parkfield is exactly why you should be reassured of the fact that Parkfield Saab and SCNA are here to stay and grow the Saab brand.

We are embarking on a journey that is expected to be finalized with the anticipated late November closing of Koenigsegg’s acquisition of Saab. This will be the start of a bright future and renewed efforts to reestablish or maintain the relationship we currently have with you, our customers. GARY BLAKE SAAB (Exeter, NH)

Iowa City Saab IS remaining open!

Just spoke to someone from Gold Coast Cadillac HUMMER SAAB who enthusiastically said they will remain a SAAB dealer. According to him, they're the "Worlds largest Cadillac dealer, the no. 5 HUMMER dealer, and aiming to be the largest SAAB dealer." Well that's good news.

Hyannis, MA Cad - Saab says they are in.

Unfortunately, George's Imports (KCSAAB.com) is getting the ax as a SAAB dealer at the end of the month after being a dealer for 34 years.

They'll remain in business selling used cars and servicing not just SAABs but all foreign makes.

It's a sad day for me.

My dealership doesn't even know....

Though they are having a meeting tomorrow so maybe they haven't announced one way or another. They said they would call me back.

Alrighty. Update.

Ken Batchelor Saab (San Antonio, Texas) is approved.

Though,
They still have GM pressuring them about their shared showroom with Saab. I think I've got a solution for them that I need to pitch to the boss.

Sad to hear of any long-termers like that leaving, Kent. I was hoping the leavers would just be relatively new, tacked on dealers who had multi-franchises with Saab as a minor emphasis.

This puts a real face to things. I hope they go well.

Calle Kevin Brewer today at Brewers Saab In Western Md he's out but he thinks International Saab in Falls Church Va is in and he hadn;t spoke to VOB or Fitzgerald Saab yet

Just musing. I wonder if there are any dealers that may have lost their dealerships previously for one reason or another that might be be restored to dealership. One old line dealer comes to mind, Zumbach. They lost their dealership when all GM brands in New York City were consolidated under Potemkin. SNA would make a lot of people happy if they dropped Potemkin and restored Zumbach,

Sounds like Saab of North Olmstead is staying open, so my dealer is safe.

http://www.saabohio.com/

You can also follow them on Facebook... That is new.

Confirmed here that International Motors in Falls Church VA is staying on.

Ken Garff Saab (Salt Lake City, UT)

Not surprising since there's not another Saab dealer anywhere close!

Glad to know that the folks at Ruggieri will still be in the SAAB business!

JMK Saab Springfield, NJ is staying

Hi Swade,

Saab of Santa Ana California is staying. Our sister store in Mission Viejo is not.

Ted.

Pretty sure Dirito Bros in San Francisco Bay area is staying open; that's what a service rep told me, though she sounded surprised I asked. (Hopefully not just blissfully unaware)

Thanks for the updates, people, and congrats to Cathi, Ted and the other dealers chiming in here.

Might keep Dirito on hold until there's something more that a surprised answer there. Or are you confident in that one, Blueler?

Herb Chambers Saab in Boston will stay. So there will still be at least three dealers in/around Boston and one an hour north in NH. Guess it pays to live in eastern Massachusetts.

Just called my "local" dealer, Gerry Lane SAAB-the only one in the state of Louisiana now located in Baton Rouge (about 75 miles from New Orleans), and they said they are still open for business and are NOT on the cut list. :)

Gary Small Saab is staying!!! (Portland OR)

Just Saab Cincinnati and Just Saab Dayton are here to stay! We received our "acceptance" letters yesterday.

McCann Hummer Cadillac Saab in Fife, WA say they're not being cut. It's a real shame GM got rid of Carter Saab in Seattle- they had the highest volumes and best service around.

SAAB of Bedford(Cleveland area)is staying

Saab of Memphis, in Memphis, Tennessee has been retained by the Koenigsegg Group and Saab Cars North America to continue serving the Mid-South Region of the United States. Saab of Memphis will be co-located with Bud Davis Cadillac at 5433 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. This is a change in location from its former address at 7733 U.S. Highway 64, Memphis, TN 38133.

One good thing for Saabisti is coming of this ax...

My own "Djup Strupe" just e-mailed me about a deeper employee and friends discount on new Saabs through the GM employee purchase program. So, if you know someone that works for GM, you may want to hit them up on this program. He sent me a screen shot for an '09 9-3 that would go for about US$25,500 (it has around 3k miles).

Obviously, GM is trying to draw down the inventory headed for or on the floor of the dealers that are affected. Either that or just trying to get the inventory down prior to the transaction.

Waiting for a call back from Crest here in Nashville, not because I want to know, I need a new key for the 9-5! It's been about an hour. :-/

Saab of Charlotte in North Carolina is staying on.

The Saab Exchange in Lake Bluff will continue to provide exceptional service to all of our loyal customers for years to come!! Thanks for your continued patronage in these turbulent times and to those who have left the brand, we are all still here and welcome you back when you need to replace your next vehicle.

Curious to know if these dealers sell other brands or are they SAAB-only. Glad to see the Albany NY dealer alive and well--you see plenty of SAABs going down that part of the Interstate 87 between Montreal and New York City.

I had a conversation with one of the of my bosses at work who in turn made a phone call and was told that we had received a 15 page new dealer agreement that started out "Dear Valued Saab Dealer" or something to that affect.

Based on what he read out of the first two paragraphs, I think it safe to say that Dorschel Saab of Rochester, NY is one of the survivors.

Fred Beans SAAB in Doylestown, PA is staying according to the sales manager.

Saab of Tampa is staying on for business and the future!!

Crest Cadillac Saab is staying on according to the service tech. I'm not 100% sold that he truly knew.

"McCann Hummer Cadillac Saab in Fife, WA say they're not being cut. It's a real shame GM got rid of Carter Saab in Seattle- they had the highest volumes and best service around.
"

X2 on Fred's comment. I'm not sure exactly why Carter stopped carrying SAAB, but it's not good. There has to be some sort of SAAB dealer in the Seattle area. Either with Carter, or somewhere else. Especially with the new 9-3x. This is Subaru central, and lots of SAABs around here too. I feel like people are itching to get a 9-3x instead of Audi or Subaru.

From Seattle myself, I had heard that Carter Saab opted out of Saab themselves and went for Subaru, hoping to be more lucrative.

That is what a Carter Subaru salesman said to me, that it was their decision to drop Saab. However, that is a dumb decision given that Carter pretty much sold the majority of Saabs in the Seattle area. I don't think I've seen anymore new Saabs on the streets since being dropped, and I heard McCann sales and service leaves much to be desired.

Too bad, because the 9-3X would've sold like hotcakes in this area full of Outbacks and XCs, and the new 9-5 coming.

Also, the Seattle Auto Show is this weekend, and I noticed Saab is absent this year, if that is true.

What about dealers in the southeastern states? Does anyone know if any of the 3 Atlanta Saab dealers are staying open?

Its good to hear JMK is staying open. (Their lot is tiny, and never have much traffic, but a very nice showroom.)

Unfortunately we are one of the dealers that was not retained. We have been a exclusive Saab dealer for 41 years. We are a family owned and operated dealer that has been with Saab through thick and thin and this is how we are repaid. No notice, no nothing, we learned from an email of an Automotive news article that they were axing 81 dealers and the next day we get a letter saying we were not chosen to continue with the new company....no real reason. We will no longer be a Saab dealer effective November 30, 2009. That's barely two weeks away!!! Yes we are a small dealer that doesn't sell many cars, but we have always taken care of our customers. We sold just over 100 cars in 2003, this year we'll be luck to do 35 but thats 35 more cars than they will sell next year without us as a dealer. Not to mention all the service work we do, the parts we buy from Saab and the many certified Saab's we sell. I can guarntee not many of my customers will travel the 60-70 miles to the next closest Saab dealer to buy a Saab. They bought their Saab because of us, because we took care of them before, during and after the sale. They will but something else that is sold in our town. We have been telling our customers for the last few months, the future looks bright, the new owners know the importance of our Swedish heritage and will bring that back to Saab. Little did we know that we would not be along for the ride. Now we have to tell all our loyal customers that we cannot do the warranty work on their Saab's that we sold them. They have to travel 65 miles to another dealer. On top of this we have less than two weeks to get rid of the remaining 2009's that we have in stock. If we do not sell them, we are stuck with them and since we will no longer be a Saab dealer, we must sell them as used cars and no incentives. How is this helping Saab. What is this going to do for the resale value for Saab?

We pay them to be a Saab dealer, they don't pay us. The only time they pay us is when we sell a new car for them or perform warranty work for them. How are they saving money my eliminating us?

We hope somehow that we can become an authorized service only point so we can still do warranty work for our customers. We also heard there is an appeal process that we will try. But we have our doubts either will work.

In the mean time our plan is too become a used car dealer. We will sell and service all kinds of makes. We will have some Saabs on our lot and we will continue to service our customers Saab's but you can bet your ass we will have some Honda's, Toyotas and whatever else will sell on. Hopefully our customker will buy what we sell. We think they will. They are our loyal customers. Our loyalty has always been to Saab. But no more..... We will have the brands of cars that people want and in the long run we will probably be better off.

After 41 years we can't believe we will no longer be a Saab dealer. It's just unbelievable. But we will survive and we think of it as Saab's loss, not ours.

What about Reinertsen in Denville, NJ? All these guys have have sold and service is Saabs. My experience has been pretty good with them. I would hate to lose them.

Does anyone know what Saab's plan for Canada is? All we know is that every single dealer has closed down because they were SAAB/SATURN. Swade any news?

It's official - Kevin Brewer got screwed. I feel for you, sir. I suppose that's why it's not called "showfriends" but rather "showbusiness". Best of luck to you and your staff.

I was very disappointed to see Kevin Brewer of Brewers Saab Hagerstown is not going to be retained as a Saab Dealership. He has a wonderful place with a wonderful staff. I have never heard any complaints about the service only accolades. My wife and I have been treated very well by management and the technicians. Central and Western Marylanders are going to really suffer from this. I do not want to go down to the Wash. DC beltway to have to buy my next car, much less have it serviced there. The new Ford Taurus SHO is looking better and better.

Well, it looks like Central Saab in Norwood, MA is getting the axe. It's a shame to lose any dealership but I could see this one coming since Central was an under-resourced dealership that shared it's location with a Chrysler/Jeep dealership. Not quite the premium image that Saab needs to push with their upmarket intentions.

It looks like Village Saab in Acton made the cut, but I'd be a lot less certain about Long out in Framingham as they're part of a GM supercenter selling Saabs alongside Hummers. Same goes with any other supercenter in the New England area.

I've just read your comment. That's a sad thing. Maybe you should make contact with SAAB and they'll have a second thought about the issue. Don't give up at once. Send a note of all your customers to SAAB. Convince them together with your customers!

Greetings from Germany & good luck!

Greetings from Germany & good luck!

I'm driving my fourth SAAB now (9-3 Hirsch SportCombi). Bought my first one in 1993 (classic 900 Turbo). You can read my OPEN LETTER about SAAB at

Kevin, hopefully the appeal process will be helpful for both you and Saab. If presented with the same facts you presented here, I cannot imagine they would let you slip away. Surely a mistake has been made and it can still be fixed.

Best wishes from Norway.

the process of selection seems to be political as well as just looking at the financial situation. was that 35 new saabs sold last year? thats a lot actually for a small dealership. keep that fighting spirit.

No word on Hurd Saab (former Wigwam) here in RI. Good thing we've got all those Boston dealers continuing on, not to mention Conn Tech in Warwick for the best Saab service around.

Mr. Brewer, It is unfortunate that you got the bad notice and simply hard to believe! I agree with other here, see if there is a avenue for appeal. Given your long history with Saab, losing a long standing dealer would be shameful.

I am pleased to update you that Reinertsen Motors, Inc., a stand alone Saab dealer since 1970 located in Denville, NJ will be a part of the new Saab Cars North America dealership network.

Sports Car Centre of Syracuse has been chosen to go forward. My heart goes out to all my fellow dealers that are not.

Paul Weller

While not representing my local saab dealer as my
user name implies (never noticed this until karen pointed it out) Reinertsen's website has the follow
on its front page:

Your local Saab Experts at Reinertsen Motors will be a part of the new Saab Cars North America!

Very relieved and glad as I've been going to them for service forever it seems my whole life. If they don't know how to fix it than nobody does. Best of luck.

Kevin: I echo the sentiments of Mr. Weller just above: it's unfortunate that it happened.

I'm not for any cuts, but I am for Saab survival. By your own admission, you've sold 35 vehicles in the space of a year. Not that it's all about the numbers, but it's primarily about the numbers. Yours was a very easy decision for the Saab channel management.

About the way that it was conveyed, it's again unfortunate. Speaking as one who has been involved with similar actions in a completely different business, I'll say this: the lawyers so tightly control these transactions that in most cases the actual humans that you work with are FORBIDDEN to speak with you about this. You may get a call from the channel management later to clean up the loose ends, but the salespeople, service people, etc. are under gag orders, I'm sure.

Roger Beasley SAAB in Austin has been retained. Not that I use 'em for much of anything but it's still good to know that Austin, TX will have a SAAB dealership. Plenty of new and used SAABs cruising our streets.

Brewer only sold 35 cars in 2009, but around 100 in 2003. I have no idea what a "typical" dealer sells, but considering the economic climent and some of the miniscule national sales being reported, that doesn't sound so terrible. What is the projected sales in the US if Saab was to sell 100,000 cars worldwide? I have no idea, but I assume someone of you have the numbers. Taking that annual US projected number and dividing by the number of present and projected dealers, what would be the average annual sales per dealer? If Brewer's 100 cars per year isn't grossly behind the average, you would wonder why he would be cut. It doesn't seem like his customers are going to travel 60 miles to another dealer. And if that's the case, Saab just lost the sales for 100 cars.

Roger Beasley Saab - Austin, TX is IN!

Reinertsen in Denville, NJ is a keeper!

Attention E-Mail Subscribers:

I am pleased to inform you that Reinertsen Motors, Inc. has been informed by the new Saab Cars North America organization that we will remain an authorized Sales, Service & Parts dealer, as we have been since 1970. We are extremely excited about the potential of the more Swedish and independent Saab. We look forward to many more years of serving your automotive needs.

WE ARE EXPERTS FOR ANYTHING SAAB!

Just spoke to both dealers in Minnesota, Morrie's and Schmelz, and they are both in!

I just e-mailed Mitchell Saab in Simsbury, CT. Hopefully I will have a response soon. If they get axed I will be very angry. They serve the whole northwest corner of Connecticut (do a great job too), and are situated in quite an affluent suburban area where sales could be $$$ if Saab gives them a decent product to sell, which I know is coming. I'm sure their sales have been crappy lately though, but whose haven't?

Mr. Brewer, I'm sorry to hear this. When we were informed by Swade about the closings, I was just saying, that I feel for the 81 dealers. I had no idea Brewer Saab was one of them. My heart goes out to you and the rest. In the case of Brewer Saab, I believe a mistake has been made.

Classic Saab, Mentor, Ohio, USA surviving.
Not sure how accurate this is however. I called and asked question of receptionist who didn't know, but went off to query someone. After a long wait, she came back announced that Classic Saab will not be closing.

Kevin, I also just read your comment and have to say that you are exactly the type of dealer that I bought my first Saab from many years ago, and exactly the type of dealer I would like to deal with today (if not so far away). Please fight this with an appeal. And, please let them know that the loyal Saab community is watching to see how you are treated.

Swade, If you have the time, perhaps you could do two lists; one for the dealers that are staying on, and another for the ones axed. Perhaps some of us could figure out the logic and lobby for any incorrectly (in our opinion) terminated.

Los Angeles area:

Saab of Beverly Hills staying open.

Saab of Sherman Oaks staying open.

Symes Saab of Pasadena unconfirmed as yet, sales guy I asked didn't know.

Best,
Drew

I'd imagine in California that all of the LA dealers (Thousand Oaks, Sherman Oaks, Beverly Hills, Pasadena, Santa Ana) are safe because they're pretty spread out and so few in number. Same goes for Santa Barbara and San Diego.

Two I'm not sure about: Rancho Grande in San Luis Obispo and Continental Motors in Oceanside. That one's probably the oldest dealer in the state too.

KAW,

I notice that you say you do not use Roger Beasley Saab for much. May I recommend to you that if you do need work on your Saab that you can't do yourself you try Dolmetsch Motors. He is a Saab specialist who had a great following when he had a shop in Bennington VT where he bought, restored, repaired and sold mostly classic 900 Saabs. I was sorry to see him leave for Austin to take a job as a master tech for a dealer. He's back working for himself now, much to the benefit of the owners of those Saabs cruising the streets of Austin.

North Country Imports - Queensbury, NY

Formerly North Country Saab is unfortunately getting the axe as well. They were a Saab dealership for 33 years. They said they will continue to service for as long as possible. They said hopefully Saab will not put to much pressure on them to go back to school for the 2010 models since they can't sell them.

I have a question though. From what I could tell from the gentleman on the phone at North Country, he said it was GM's call to close these dealerships since the deal hasn't been finalized yet. And they were just being hopeful that in the future after the buy out is done they'll get renewed again. My question is simple. Is GM the one closing the dealerships? This is my assumption. Thanks.

Called the local Denver dealership and was hung up on (mistakenly) once, and left on terminal hold once....my contact wasn't in anyway.
We do have 4 dealerships within a 125 mile radius; doubt all 4 will stay.
Anybody around here know?

VOB Saab in Rockville, Maryland is in.

Looks like Country Saab of Orange County in Warwick, NY may be one of those getting the axe. That is the message I'm getting from this EBAY auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLACK-FRIDAY-CLOSEOUT-SAAB-SALE-NEW-NEVER-TITLED_W0QQitemZ110457658326QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item19b7ca1bd6

Swade,
I received this reply from Dimmitt Cadillac Hummer Saab in Clearwater, Florida today:

Good Morning! Great news! Dimmitt Saab is here to stay! I hope everything is going well with you and your Saab. It is business as usual here and we look forward to seeing you soon. Have a great weekend!!

Actually, I'm happy and surprised considering Mark Grays earlier comment that Saab of Tampa is staying on since both dealers are less than 15 miles apart here in the Tampa Bay area. If true that's great news for Tampa Bay.
-Thom

Although I have not spoken with them here is a link to a local story indicating that Armando's in Canfield, oh will be staying open. http://www.wytv.com/content/news/local/story/New-Owner-to-Terminate-a-Third-of-Saab-Dealerships/rJsk9xGCq0KDAZZCI8JzVA.cspx and here is the story.
While it was announced Friday 37 percent of U.S. Saab dealership franchises will be terminated, a local business will be spared.

Armondo's Saab in Canfield will be among 137 dealerships to stay open while about a third -- or 81 -- of the country's dealers will close as the brand is purchased from General Motors by a Swedish carmaker.

The deal is expected to close Nov. 30, and the new owner, Koenigsegg, plans to close 81 dealers. The terminated dealerships were notified of the decision Thursday.

GM signed the deal to sell off the brand in June. All Saab dealers signed a termination agreement in June when GM filed for bankruptcy. The terms of the agreements will go into effect for the terminated dealerships.

Fox Saab in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is sadly closing. Formerly Keenan Saab before DP Fox (Dan DeVos) bought it out(this was his first dealership here, soon followed by Hyundai, then Mitsubishi and Isuzu. Now There are over 15 brands, I believe, owned by him in Grand Rapids alone).

Keenan Saab had no body shop and always sent us their work. We quickly became the place to take your Saab and once word of mouth kicked in, we were doing a lot of cars and very busy for many years, with a majority of Saabs. Fox bought Keenan in the late 90's-early 00s, and we continued this relationship.

Uftring Saab in the Peoria, Illinois area is terminated.

George's Imports in Kansas City is terminated.

I talked with Hubacher Cadillac GMC Pontiac Buick & Saab in Sacramento. They will continue to sell Saab.

Also, I talked with Saab of Mission Viejo, CA and unfortunately they will be closing.

Perrine Saab in Cranbury, New Jersey is in.
perrinesaab.com

I read from a local TV station that Fox Saab in Grand Rapids Michigan is staying open. Andrew's post says they are closing. Hum?

B&B Saab in Santa Clara is going forward with Saab.

They are a great dealership and have always taken great care of their customers. Their service department is amazing and they have done a great job taking care of our 9-7x (which has had it's host of awful differential problems).
Glad to see them continuing with Saab.

Also, on their website they have announced the second US showing of the new 9-5 at the San Francisco International Auto Show Nov 26-Dec 2. I can't wait to see the car in person!

(From their website):

Serving Silicon Valley since 1971
and looking forward to the future!

B & B Saab is Northern California's largest Saab dealer servicing the Bay Area and Silicon Valley since 1971. We service Saabs from San Francisco to Monterey at our central Santa Clara location. We are very pleased to announce that our dealership will be working with the newly formed Saab Cars North America as Saab embarks under new ownership in Sweden!

Dear Kevin,

Your commitment to, and love of the brand shine through. I am truly sorry that you and people like you are lost to the network and the marque.

I cannot comment on numbers and politics, nor on the bean counters. but the knock on effect in your area will be felt on the brand, however small the sales figures may proportionately be framed as...

All I can say is,you could or ought, to do what my local Citroen dealer of 45 years standing did when the same thing happened to him - set yourself up as a purveyor of fine, used cars, and retain all the customers who would have bought new cars, by selling them nearly new- used cars and servicing them. That way the cashflow will still turnover and a niche will be created again. Niche marketing will ensure your loyal customer base will remain and grow.

SHEEHAN SAAB, LIGHTHOUSE POINT, FLORIDA IS IN

It is with much sadness to have to make this announcement. After being the oldest continuosly family owned SAAB dealer in the United States, with 51 years of service, SCNA has informed us that they are not renewing Trio Motors franchise agreement. I have tried to contact SCNA to no avail. There was no reason given to go along with the letter and I doubt we will ever get a viable reason. Once the shock has warn off, I will proceed further to decide what direction to take. For now, we will continue to operate as a SAAB independent used car dealer and will also continue to offer service on all existing SAABs. However, we will not be allowed to perform warranty work.

Trio Motors, like Brewster SAAB, is a small dealership with sales that average about 125 cars a year. After 51 years of service and dedication to SAAB, I think we at least deserve an explanation. We will pursue any avenue we have to in order to appeal this decision. We have learned from experience, and input from our customers, that they would rather come to Trio Motors, where they are treated like people or family instead of going to the larger dealerships and be treated like a number. Personal attention is what the people like and they get that from the smaller home town dealers. Why would SCNA want to end that?

Ron Collins
President
Trio Motors, Inc
Burton Michigan

@ Ron Collins: As with Mr. Brewster above, that's an unfortunate thing about survival when times are darkest -- very extreme measures are needed, and I don't like it, either.

As I said to him: You will not likely get much feedback in the short run because the lawyers usually put a gag on the company to avoid any issues. As things move along, I hope that your channel people will reach out to you and discuss the situation.

Again, it's not all about the numbers, but it is primarily about the numbers. It simply has to be that way for companies to profit.

Two more lost:

Ed Schmidt in Perrysburg, Ohio
Checkpoint Foreign Cars in Tonawanda, New York

Am told Herb Chambers, Village, Charles River are safe

Apparently 6 dealers left standing out of 11 in Mass

Hyannis Saab is out.

North Shore Saab, Roslyn, NY

Hyannis Saab is out.

I don't see any Maine dealers in there yet. I wouldn't be surprised if the same logic that axed Brewer SAAB will axe Stetson SAAB in Warren, Maine. If that turns out to be the case its truly a shame. Mid Coast Maine has got to have the highest concentration of daily driven SAAB 9000's in the US if not the World!

Called my dealer (Suttle in Newport News, VA) and the sales manager said "we are waiting to find out". I noted that I had read that letters were sent out late last week which did not prompt a response. Hopefully this is simply a result of a mail delay due to the storm we had late last week and not an indication that they got the dear John letter and are appealing.

Saab Downers Grove in Downers Grove, IL will continue to provide excellent service to all of our customers. We are still in Downers Grove and our service and sales department will remain open.

GARCIA SAAB IN ALBUQUERQUE IS IN

Now I would like to retract my previous mention of Fox Saab.. Jeff Mox just called me and wanted to make sure if I had heard anything, such as on Channel 8 News, that I know it was all wrong. Fox Saab in Grand Rapids, Michigan, IS staying!! Well good, I saw no reason for them to leave, and there's a extremely intelligent owner behind the dealership who isn't likely to allow it to close. So, Fox Saab of Grand Rapids, Michigan, #19 on the list, will remain open. Thanks!

Has anyone found out information on Saab of Lakeside in Michigan?

Just got off the phone with Ron Carter and DeMontrond. Both said they're still in! Houston, Texas.

SAAB OF WESTPORT (CT) IS IN

Sewell Saab Plano, Tx
Sewell Saab Dallas, Tx
Sewell Saab Grapevine, Tx

I heard from an employee that Saab USA confirmed they will all remain as full dealers. I bought my two Saabs from the Plano location, and have them serviced there. In my opinion they are a very good dealer, and I love the cars.

The whole Sewell family of Saab dealers have made it then. As I mentioned early on Ken Batchelor Saab(part of Sewell) made the cut.

Sewell dealerships are among the best in the state of Texas no matter the brand, so no surprise that they made it.

Any word on Ron Carter Saab down in Houston?

SAAB OF GREENWICH (CT) IS IN

North Shore Saab, Roslyn, NY is in

We got are ticket!!!!!!!
We are in for the long haul!!!!!

Saab of Downers Grove
217 Ogden Avenue
Downers Grove, Il 60515
630-960-2000

At the risk of jumping in ahead of my salesman, Jim Hudson in Columbia SC confirms via email this afternoon that they are still a Saab dealer.

jimhudson.com

They did get a letter from Saab confirming this.

I am not affiliated with the dealership other than being a repeat customer to the tune of about 5 Saabs.

Kevin O'Donovan at Secor Saab, New London, CT, confirms that they are a dealer.

Smithtown SAAB/Volkswagen, Smithtown, NY is in...unfortunately.

They're scumbags...but thankfully North Shore SAAB, in Roslyn, NY will still be there for me. :-)

Congrats Stuart!!

Just confirmed:

Checkpoint Saab in Buffalo, NY (they've been open for decades) will not sell new Saabs anymore. Sad, this is where I took my Saab.

Cappellino Buick GMC Hummer Saab, in East Amherst, NY a suburb of Buffalo, will continue on. They're a much more high tech facility, so I understand why this happened. I'm hoping they distinguish the Saab showroom from the Buicks, as they have a massive Hummer showroom on the lot with a huge glass H wall. It's probably the right decision, however sad it is. I actually live in East Amherst, but always took my car into Checkpoint as they were the older more established dealer. No more.

I received a very quick and very emphatic email response on Saturday that Glassman Saab in Southfield, Michigan is NOT closing. They also sell Kia, Hyundai and Subaru. I am not certain in what capacity the person who responded was in.

I just looked it up, and yes, Saab of Lakeside is staying. It is referred to as Saab of Troy on the list (and according to their website).

I was just told by one of my fellow Northeast Florida Saab club members that Orange Park Cadillac Saab (formerly Nimnicht Cadillac Saab) had the lights off and no cars in the Saab showroom as of last week. Also, their website advertises a huge sale ending Nov. 30. Coincidence? I think not.

I never dealt with them since the new ownership, but Nimnicht's service was pathetic, and they seemed to sell very few cars, so no surprise. Now it looks like Jacksonville, FL will be without a Saab dealership.

You say you looked this up "on the list." What list are you referring to? Does it have all the ins and outs and can it be made public?

I would like to know as well. Those are two different stores. Same owner, but different stores.

While Mitch isn't affiliated with Jim Hudson Saab, I am. We're on the accepted list and looking forward to making the roads of Columbia and beyond a little more Swedish. (And thanks to him for pointing us to this thread!)

(For verification, our Twitter page: http://twitter.com/jimhudsonbpgs/status/5775159493 )

I am told that my dealer, as well as the next two closest, will be closing. This means I will have to travel over 100 miles for service/warranty work?
Anyone else out there think this is a breach of the warranty/ service agreement?

What?! That's where my parents bought their first Saab!

Also retained is:

Suburban Saab, Cadillac, Chevrolet of Ann Arbor, MI

I received an e-mail from them today with the message they are one of the survivors.

Tracy Banks Saab in Concord, NH will remain as a dealer.

Kevin Brewer didnt get screwed - he was well and truly shafted! 41 years in the business and this is how Saab reward him. Quite disgusting that they did it be email as well especially after supporting Saab for almost as long as I have been on this planet. Saab need these smaller exceedingly loyal Saabisti to help spread the word.

I am quite shocked. :o(

It is not a breach of the warranty agreement. They provide service, but you get the vehicle there no matter the distance/obstacles. It's just that simple. Unfortunate as it may be, it's legal -- check your warranty terms.

2-don, so ron carter is staying. when i went in for service few months ago they said they would let the 09 saabs run out, and will not stock anymore saabs, but will continue to service them. looks like they changed their mind, thats good.

Actually, my OP might be (probably is) incorrect. Saab of Troy is classified as part of the Elder Automotive Group, the same as Saab of Lakeside. After doing some research to back up my claims, I noticed that this group owns more than one Saab dealership. One is closer to Somerset, the Saab of Troy mentioned on the list. And they have the same website, which got me a little too excited. Don't know what this means for my claims. Sorry for any mishaps.

OK, I will be VERY surprised if the WESTPORT, CT dealer remains open while the one in MILFORD, CT closes.

One is like a ghost town while the other (is less of one).

The service shop in Milford is much better than Westport. This is really surprising....but again, just my 2 cents.

Continental Motors in Oceanside California got the axe. Its been a SAAB dealer since 1968.

Trio Motors and our dealership, Brewer's Saab Inc. sound so much alike and like Zippy said above, we truly were shafted and so was Trio. In fact most of the 81 dealers most likely didn't deserve this.

What Lance Cole suggested above, is what we plan to do. We will sell specially selected vehicles of all makes and sell them to OUR customers. We feel the majority of OUR customers will buy what we sell. After all they are OUR customers and like us were truly shafted by Saab as well.

We appreciate all of the positive comments on this board and are waiting to hear the results of our appeal.

If anyone would like to send Saab a letter and let them know how they feel here is the address:

Saab Cars North America
Tower 100 23rd Floor
Renisannce Center
Mail Code: 482-A23-B25
Detroit, MI 48265

Thanks again for all of the support.

phone and email details removed per site policy

OK Gents, I'll let Swade have the final say, but let's refrain from publishing sensitive information here, shall we? Thanks, EnG

To the great people at Brewer Saab I am very upset that you guys are out.I sold Saabs at Clews and Strawbridge for 25 years at now at general sales Co west chester Pa for 7 years .I cannot think of a nicer group of people to take care of your Saab or to buy from.Kevin I have known your dad for years great guy.General Sales co is another family co.also very nice people some way they did not get rid of us.Good luck Kevin If I can do anything to help I will!

Glad to see Saab Downers Grove will still be nearby.

Mitchell Saab in Simsbury, CT will continue their long tradition of selling and servicing new and certified pre-owned Saabs.

@ John M

YESSSSS!!!!!!!! Hooray I am so happy. I have two e-mails into them but haven't heard back and was getting worried. In all honesty I actually had a nightmare last night about them closing. It was weird.

DIRITO BROTHERS WALNUT CREEK SAAB - Walnut Creek, CA

They're in.

Any word on Portland Saab in Falmouth, Maine?

All Saab Dealerships in Maine have gotten the Axe except for Portland Saab

In addition, every dealer in Vermont next door got the axe except for P.J.'s

Truly unacceptable, truly...

June 4, 2009

Your GM Warranty — Rest assured, we will honor the warranty commitment given to you at the time of your purchase. Our GM Dealers are very much open for business, and ready to meet your sales and service needs. And even though we are seeking buyers for our Saturn and Saab brands, have just announced the selection of a buyer for the HUMMER brand, and have decided to eventually phase out Pontiac, those dealerships also remain open and ready for service. The bottom line is your warranty will be honored and service will always be available through authorized GM retail facilities by GM-trained Goodwrench experts, with Genuine GM Parts on hand.

Troy A. Clarke
Group Vice President
President, GM North America

We received an e-mail from the SAAB dealer where we bought our current SAAB that they would be among the surviving dealers. They are Guilford SAAB in Guilford CT.

Jim Ellis Saab in Atlanta is staying open...

but which one? there are two.

there is one in Marietta, Ga (about 500ft from the Atlanta border) and one in Atlanta. Both are very close to each other.

there is also Heritage Cadillac Saab in Morrow, Ga. and I'm assuming they are going too.

So does this mean the ENTIRE Atlanta Metro area is going to be left with only 1 Atlanta dealership????? You must be kidding me !

Armen Saab in Ardmore, PA claims that they will remain a dealer. However, the sales woman had to ask someone else there, so I'd consider it as still a bit tentative.

Saab Dealership in Pleasonton, CA is staying.

Here is the response from Cochran, a GM super-facility east of Pittsburgh in the suburb of Monroeville, PA:

"I have confirmed that #1 Cochran will continue to carry Saab after GM's ownership has been resolved."

Mo, I spoke to a sales rep. who asked (?) another sales rep. They both were sure they were in. I'll give my service guy a call tomorrow to double check.

Called Deel Saab in Miami, they didn't know what I was referring to. Even the "sales manager" came on the phone and sounded clueless about the dealer cut list.

I was on my way to dinner earlier this evening and drove by and my suspicions were confirmed. DEEL has converted what was once the Deel Saab dealership to Deel Pre-Owned showroom. While this is just a visual inspection and doesn't confirm anything, it sure looks pretty obvious to me that Deel Saab has been eliminated.

If I'm not mistaken, that leaves the tri-county South Florida area with one single Saab dealership. Vera Saab. I'm not sure if its on the dealer cut list, I can't imagine it being as if it was South Florida won't have a Saab dealer in the tri-county West Palm/Broward/Miami-Dade county.

This is a lucrative market with lots of money and fancy cars the norm. It would be nice if Koenig were to build a really nice flagship dealership in Miami.

Just chiming into this thread ...

HOLY COW, not one dealer in entire West Coast (outside of California) other than McCann in Fife, WA.

None left in OR, AZ, NV, ID, MT, WY, CO ?!?!?!?

Ooops, I missed Gary Small in Portland, OR. But still .....

2 don, its cool, i just dont trust that dealer to much, after there many shenanigans with me. wish performance saab would come back.

Spoke with Freddy at Deel Saab (well, formerly at Deel Saab) and he confirmed that they were no longer going to be selling Saab. This was before the list went out though so they may have gotten the axe for other reasons. Also, I gather that Lehman Saab closed a bit ago because they are no longer on the Saab website list of US dealers.

So unless Vera Saab sticks around, looks like some of us will be driving Audis in the near future.

Jim Ellis Saab-Marietta,Ga. --- staying

Armen Saab in Ardmore PA is confirmed STAYING via email this morning.

Karp Saab Rockville Centre NY

Valenti Motors of Watertown CT has been confirmed as a Saab dealer. Glad to be a part of the continuing life of a great brand.

Peter Keast, Sales Manager
Valenti Saab

I have just been told that Arroway Saab in Katonah New York (Westchester County) has been retained.

I also called Deel yesterday and the person I spoke with didn't sound like he knew anything about it. I have not heard from Vera Saab. This will mean the only dealer in the south florida area will be Sheehan in Lighthouse Point. This is extreme northern broward and quite a drive from any in Miami-Dade county. In Miami we have plenty of exotic cars, anything thing you can think of. It doesn't seem fair to not have any Saab dealers in a region of 5,000,000+ people. I agree that a Ksegg/Saab Showroom in the Coral Gables area would be a nice addition to the many exotic car dealers in that area.

Does anyone know if Del.Saab is still in ?

Thanks for your feedback Ryan.

Its quite stunning that Miami-Dade county will not have a Saab dealership. Perhaps Ksegg knows this and will create a showcase Ksegg/Saab showroom for Miami-Dade. Indeed spazzz is correct, there is plenty of money to be thrown at KSeggs and Saabs down here.

Have not been able to confirm but I would find it very unlikely that Mike Shaw in Denver is going anywhere. Gebhardt in Boulder- same thing.

2don and mo. I can't believe Ron Carter Saab is in. Its a joke of a Saab dealer. I fully expected Saab to drop them and recruit a new dealership. A nice stand alone dealership more in the hart of the city.

Saab has no representation towards the north or west side..

Wright Saab in Wexford, Pa retained. just talked to them

I agree, that's really too bad. My dad's bought 2 Saabs, a 900 and a 9-5, from George's. My wife is still driving the 900. George's offered great service in sales and maintenance. Although I'd not be surprised if they can't compete with bigger dealerships in terms of volume, it seems to me the quality of their customer base is being overlooked.

The other question that comes to mind, where are the 2 million people in the greater Kansas City area going to get their Saabs? That seems like an awfully big market to write off. Salt Lake City (where I live now) is a bit smaller (roughly 1 million in the area), but we get to keep our Saab dealer. That just doesn't make sense to me.

This morning I called around to some dealers here in Florida to help the list. Vera Saab is whom I source all my parts from for my Saab repair business, so they are most important directly to me.

Massey Saab in Orlando- Spoke with the Saab salesman who informed me they are there and in operation to service and sell Saabs. The way he worded his answer made it seem that he was talking about today and today only. I tried asking more specifically about the future at that dealer and was told they would be open.

Deel Saab in Miami- Spoke with gentleman who said they are indeed losing Saab.

Vera Saab in Pembroke Pines- Spoke with my parts guy yesterday and he did not know they were even closing dealers anywhere. This morning we talked about it again and he said they must be staying because he has not heard anything yet. I called the sales team this morning and was told they are there and ready to sell. Again, misleading. I tried a couple of different ways asking and it seems they are saved from the cut list.

Schumacher Saab in West Palm Beach- Spoke with the Saab salesman this morning and he confirmed that they will remain open. He went on to say that Saab is closing 81 dealers nationwide for 37% of all Saab dealers in the Nation.

Sheehan Saab in Lighthouse Point- Spoke with a guy at the sales team and he was the first actually acknowledge the letters being sent out and they would be keeping Saab. He then went on to say that he was surprised they were cutting Deel in Miami (confirmed). I then asked if he knew about what other dealers in FL were staying and going. The gentleman said that Deel is losing Saab, VERA is losing Saab and Schumacher is keeping Saab. This confirms Schumacher is staying open and that Deel is closing but does not help Vera Saab. I think some more time will help in actually finding out, still needs to be confirmed.

Two weeks ago a friend and I went to the Miami International Auto show for the release of the new Saab 9-5. On the return leg, we decided to stop at the 3 dealers close to i95 on our way back to Melbourne. The Miami dealer only had 3 Saabs total for sale, not surprising they are cutting Saab. Both Vera and Schumacher Saab had 25+ on their lots, however Vera's looked like they had not been washed in months. Yes, months.

Will be interesting to find out what comes of this and how this will effect Saabs ability to sell Saabs later on after their restructuring with the Koenigsegg Group.

And now, for northern Indiana SAAB dealers:

Fort Wayne, IN: I just got off the phone with Tom Kelley Cadillac-Hummer-SAAB... they are staying open, and will be the only SAAB dealer in Northern Indiana. Perhaps the large SAAB owner base here has a lot to do with it.

South Bend area: The news isn't as good at Gurley Leep Buick-GMC-Cadillac-SAAB in Mishawaka, Indiana. They are losing their Saab franchise (and switching to Subarus instead of SAABs).

Northwest Indiana: Schepel Cadillac-Hummer-SAAB in Merrillville, Indiana is having a "SAAB Blow-Out Sale" on "all remaining SAABs", so I assume this means they got their franchise yanked, too. However, the area is close to several SAAB dealers in Chicagoland.

Scott Saab in Allentown, PA retained.

Cherry Hill Classic Saab in Cherry Hill N.J. has been renewed as a Saab franchise.

We are so happy and we look forward to many more great years.

We really believe that the best years are in front of us.

So we will continue to be the best in service and sales for the Philadelphia area.

We are so happy for our customers and they feel relieved as well.

Good news for the Oklahoma Saab Drivers - talked to Bob Moore Saab in Oklahoma City and they're continuing to sell Saabs. The person I spoke with in Bob Moore's Norman store wasn't aware of any letters being sent out, but they hadn't heard anything - being that that dealership is about a mile from my house, i'm hoping no news is good news.

Saab of Mission Viejo is already gone. They switched to Mistubishi on Nov.2

I'm completely dismayed from saabdoc's comment about Continental Motors in Oceanside getting the axe. I bought my first Saab from them in 1995 (IDS delivery) and my 9-5 Aero from them in 2004. They are the only Saab dealership in the San Diego area that I trust my car to. Please, please, PLEASE, don't tell me Marvin K. Brown is THE Saab dealer for San Diego now. Continental may have been a low volume dealer for Saab (I really don't know), but they are an honest, family run business that takes the time to make buying a Saab the great experience it should be.

Delaware SAAB has been informed that they are staying open!

Dana Motors in Billings, Montana is continuing as a Saab dealer. Dana is a 40-year old family owned dealership, Saab exclusive, with the finest service and sales people in the business. They sell more Saabs per capita in their region than just about any other dealer in the country. Folks travel hundreds of miles just to do business with them.

Findlay Cadillac Saab in Las Vegas, NV is staying.

Anderson of Hunt Valley will remain open in the Baltimore, Maryland Area.

Our local Saab dealer here in Augusta, GA -- Johnson Motor Company -- also made the cut.

I was just about to ask about Georges Imports... that's incredibly sad news considering how long they've been in business with SAAB.

According to the service department at Suburban Saab, Ann Arbor, MI, they survived the cut. (Based on a telephone call of yesterday, 11/16/09)

SAAB OF MILFORD, the number one seller of CPO SAABs in the United States on 655 Bridgeport Ave in Milford, Connecticut will remain a SAAB dealer with the new SCNA.

Thanks for those kind words.

Saab of Milford (CT) is in and truly looking forward to rebuilding the Saab brand. It won't be easy but the new 9-5 is a huge step in the right direction. My sympathy goes out to the 81 dealers who did not make it; I wish you the very best for the future.

Sincerely,

Nick Slater
General Sales Manager
Saab of Milford

thats good news. I was just about to call to find out. I figured when they moved into Hummer's showroom (rather than the other way around) it was lights out for wright saab. - any word on Pittsburgh's OTHER dealer - Cochran?

Oh no Continental Motors!!! How is that possible? If I still lived in San Diego, I would not take my SAAB to Marvin K Brown. I would take the 20-30 minute up the coast to Marvin K Brown in Oceanside. I really like that place. Are there any other SAAB dealers in San Diego?

There are only 2 Saab dealers in San Diego, MKB and Continental. My car is just out of warranty, so it looks like I'll be making the trek to Swedecar in Torrance for anything I don't want to do myself....

Has anyone heard if Gartner Saab in Aurora IL made the cut? I called on Saturday and a women from sales checked with her manager said they were in. I don't know how accurate she is.

reconfirming: Saab- North Olmsted (Cleveland) is staying open.

Has anyone heard about POTAMKIN CADILLAC-BUICK-CHEVROLET-PONTIAC-GMC-SAAB in New York City? If anywone deserves to be axed, they do. I called and only got a phone operator who told me all she knew was that they would continue selling what they have and would continue servicing. Beyond that, she didn't know. Sounds to me like they will be gone. Apparently there are two other Saab dealers in New York, City Saab in Long Island City and 86TH STREET CHEVROLET SAAB in Brooklyn. None of them have yet reported in.

Given the fact they are closing dealerships, any chance for opening new ones? There will be a huge hole in Miami-Dade county now... A stand-alone would work better, previously it was Deel VW/VOLVO/SAAB... all direct competition.

Yes, Saab of North Olmsted has been selected as a "move forward" dealer. Thanks to Ted for posting. BTW Olmsted has no 'a'

Gebhardt Saab in boulder CO. will be around.

http://www.thesaabstory.com/
looks like they are staying open. This makes for 3rd dealer in Chicago area.

Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet-Buick-Hummer-Saab of Lubbock, Texas will be Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet-Buick-Hummer at the end of the month.

The sales manager says the dealership will continue service.

Sewell Hummer-Saab of Plano, Texas is 400 miles east!

Scoggin-Dickey probably sold less than 10 Saabs this past year. They have a new 2008 Turbo X, a 2009 9-5, a 2009 9-7X, and 5 2009 9-3s available on the lot as of 11/9/09.

Legends in AZ are staying open.
Cadillac Saab of Cape Cod, MA are staying open
Any word on the 2 dealers in Raleigh NC?

Just to confirm, I spoke on the telephone with the owner of Armando's SAAB in Canfield Oh today and they will remain open.

Red Noland Saab in Colorado Springs writes:
'Thank you for your interested in our Saab dealership. As of now we are not one of the dealers that are being eliminated by Saab of North America.'

Mike Shaw Saab in Denver writes:
'I understand that some dealerships received letters saying they had to close. We also received a letter saying that we are not one of them. We will be a Saab dealer for the foreseeable future. Are you looking for a new Saab or were you just trying to find out if we were closing.'

Gebhart Saab in Boulder writes:
'Yes, we made the cut!'

and then he signs it:

Harlan Voyles
PORSCHE of BOULDER
SALES MANAGER

(I guess they're really into selling Saabs.)

I have had no response from Tynan's Saab in Fort Collins yet.

Any word on Rhode Island..? I'm a previous Wigwam Saab customer, which sold their Saab franchise to a local gm automall about 2 years ago,and it has not been the same. Still own my Saab's,but now go to an independent garage in RI.

I believe Lubbock is closer to Albuquerque by a few miles. We've already gained as many El Paso customers as will deal with the inconvenience since Crawford gave his Saab franchise back in March.

These folks back east that will have to drive an hour or two should check out how far Lubbock is from Albuquerque, Dallas, or Oklahoma City.

http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20091118-BIZ-911180338

Officially official -- Gary Blake Saab in Exeter, NH will remain open.

Hyannis Saab is not out Denny, where'd you get that info?

Great news about the good people at Dana Saab in Billings, Montana. We are one of those people who "travel hundreds of miles" to do business with them. 440 miles one way, to be more precise. So far, we have purchased three new Saabs from them, and one new VW (they used to sell VW, too). I sure hope they can hang on until they have some new Saabs to sell, because we'll want to replace our 09 9-5 Griffin Edition wagon in a few years.

John.

I contacted SAAB OF HILTON HEAD SAVANNAH on Hilton Head Island, SC, and SITTON SAAB of Greenville, SC, via their respective web forms yesterday. No responses as of 10 AM EST.

Just tryin' to get all the South Carolina USA dealers listed ...

Tynans Saab in Fort Collins Co is going to be a parts and service point but the Tynans are trying to get and want to get sales back

Father & Sons Saab in West Springfield MA will no longer be a Saab dealer. They are an automotive super market, dealing Audi, Porsche, KIA and others and indicated they won't miss Saab.

Pioneer Valley Saab in South Deerfield MA will no longer be a Saab dealer. They are also a Volvo dealer and will appeal their cancellation. If their appeal is not successful there will no Saab dealers left in all of western Massachusetts.

KRM...there are not two Saab dealers in Raleigh, NC. David O'Neal Saab in Raleigh used to be the only dealer, but they dropped Saab a couple of years ago and it was picked up by Hendrick Cadillac-Hummer-Saab in Cary, NC. Hendrick has removed any info on Saab inventory from their web site, so it does not look like they will continue as a dealer. (I would guess service only.)

Swedish Imports in Durham, NC, is an indy shop that has been a Saab authorized repair shop. I would expect they would continue with that designation.

Rippey Saab in Wilmington, NC is no longer going to be a dealer (they really only keep 5-10 cars on the lot anyway) but are hoping to at least be a service dealer as they handle warranty service for most of Eastern/Coastal North Carolina and further down into South Carolina as well.

Dear Saab - PLEASE allow them to continue service... none of us really want to have to travel 4 hours to service our vehicles - especially the influx of Northerners to our area (warm, lower cost of living, new homes, etc..) that bring there Saabs with them.

thanks!

and again, the axe was dropped on Rippey Saab, Wilmington, NC.

Patrick Motors in Auburn, MA is on board.

Delaware Saab is apparently in, but they turned their Saab store into a Kia dealer months ago- I think they're operating out of their Cadillac store across the street now. Same thing happened to Armen Saab in Ardmore, had a nice new building and closed it down to move in next door with Chevrolet. I'm not sure where service is, space is at a premium in that area.

Patrick Motors in Auburn, MA is on board.

I wrote to David Brooks, the internet consultant at Fishkill, New York's, Brownell Motors, to inquire about their Saab franchise. His reply this morning was as follows:

"At this time, I don't have a final answer for you. Frankly, the dealer still hasn't reached agreement with either party. We are the third oldest Saab Dealer in the country and are still (at this time) actively merchandising and servicing the entire Saab line."

Brownell Motors (http://www.brownell.gmpsdealer.com/), who also sells Mercury and Lincoln vehicles, has a very long history with Saab, although their sales volume appears quite small. We hope the best for them.

BishopQ,

I would not count on Hurd Saab being there much longer, I was there not long ago and Dave the Saab service specialist whom I have worked with in the past is no longer there, I dealt with a GM guy who didn't know the first thing about my car for a few minutes before I left.

Well add Jaremko Saab in Spokane, WA as one of the cut dealers. I suspect one reason was that I don't think they sold a single 2009 Saab. But I really can't blame them - they are a smaller, family-owned dealer and I would have been hesitant to order any 2009 models given the past year and a half of uncertainty. A larger dealer may be able to take the risk but some of these smaller dealers just can absorb large losses if they were stuck with inventory that couldn't sell.

I believe they will remain a service and parts dealer. If that is the case, then I may consider a new Saab sometime but it's very unlikely at this point.

Thank you John and Peter for the kind words. Just confirming that we sent in our dealer agreement with SCNA at the end of last week. The next 7-8 months are going to be hard, but we have a decent selection of 09s right now, and will be doing more used car business during the interim (until the 2011s get here - I am assuming there won't be a 2010 MY for the U.S.).

Best Regards,

Del McCormick

P.S. Is Jaremko confirmed as terminated? Our AOR (area of responsibilty) is going to be huge.

Marvin K Brown (MKB) of San Diego is "hopeful". They told me they have not been officially contacted either way.

When I took my car to Zimbrick Saab in Madison, WI to have some warranty work done about a month ago, they told me they were staying. They also said they are being moved from their present location in the Zimbrick complex, but that they would going to be getting a new, prime location. They sounded very enthused and upbeat about their situation.

Sad to say but yes, as of right now we are on the cut list. Someone else mentioned they thought we were the oldest here in Calif(actually west of the Mississippi), which is true....41 years of dedication like Brewers and a simple unfeeling paragraph that says we're out :( I'm making my appeals and can only hope.
We will continue to service Saabs and likely other brands. Sales will continue with used.

Does anyone know the status for State College, PA? The current dealership (Rider Auto) is actually in the process of selling off most/all of their franchises and last I heard a while back no final decision had been made for Saab.

If Saab is dropped, it will be the first time since at least 1966 that the State College area will be without a Saab dealer. This would be unfortunate.

Story so far from Virginia:

Suttle in Neport News, VA = Denies knowledge yet
Moore in Richmond, VA = Denies knowledge yet
Brown in Charlottesville, VA = Denies knowledge yet
Bay in Norfolk, VA = regrettably informed me that they were notified that their Saab dealership agreement was to end but they were "appealing"

The first and the last on my list are located in the "Hampton Roads" metro area which has 1.6 million people with most of those people closest to Bay Saab in Norfolk. Richmond is about an 1.5 hours northwest of Bay and 1 hour northwest of Suttle.

If all of these dealerships are left without Saab, as it would appear the case will be from my interaction to date, I'll have to go to the DC area for service ... a three hour drive.

There are some amazing deals on Saabs right now if you can find someone that worked for GM. Current and former GM employees can "tag" a new 2009 Saab anywhere in the US and have it shipped to a nearby dealer. Cost is about 82% of MSRP less $7k for Aero 9-3 and $6k for other 9-3. As compelling a price that may be there is no way I would do it if my nearest dealer were 3-hours away.

I contacted the dealer here in Lincoln, NE and thus far they haven't heard one way or the other. They said they should know by the end of the month. Name of the dealer is Sid Dillon Saab, they have other franchises so if they lose the Saab one they won't be hurting I'm sure.

I'm tempted to call Huber Saab in Omaha just in case. Not sure how many Nebraskans actually read this site seeing as I'm one of like 3 Saabs in town it seems.

Yes! Delaware SAAB is here to stay.

Maanders: David O'Neal quit selling SAABS November 2008 -- I bought a car there on one of the last few days the franchise was open before the franchise moved to Hendrick in Cary. Also, I think you might be looking at an older Hendrick website -- the current website still has SAAB cars featured. The site is hendrickcadillachummer.net. I did the same thing. Also, I called Hendrick on Monday, and I was told they did not know if they were being cut as a SAAB franchise or not -- I was told other people had called that day. I've not called back. Does anyone know about Hendrick in Raleigh, NC, or Flow in Winston-Salem, NC?

Saab of Lakeside in Macomb, MI is kinda staying open.

I received this today in an e-mail:

Service will be staying open. Warranty work and everything. Sales will not though
From our understanding they are looking for another brand to bring into the dealership at some point though.

That’s all we know at this point. So you can still have your Saab serviced at Lakeside

SAAB OF LAKESIDE

Thank goodness - I was just going to bemoan the fact that there was no dealer in Wisconsin listed!

Steve,
North Shore Saab has been terminated........we have appealed........but you still have us on the list. It is unbelievable that Saab?GM has left this very rich AOR open. For the North Shore of Long Island to be without a Saab dealer, who has a stand alone franchise is just utterly ridiculous. Our customers have already been complaining about not being able to get great service anymore up here. But, that is what GM wants and therefore, that is what GM is going to get. If Saab wants to start really selling a new line of cars and they are going to leave this market open, they are out of their minds. Mostly a leasing AOR, they did us wrong by dropping the leasing product and now, we are gone.

RH,

Thanks for the clarification on Hendrick in Cary, NC. I hope they will get to keep the franchise (although it does not sound good that they have heard nothing yet). The Raleigh-Durham metro area is a great demographic for Saab. It would be a shame if there was no dealer closer than Charlotte. I expect the 9-3X, the new 9-5, and the 9-4X can do well in this market.

Does anyone know if F.C.Kerbeck is still there?

Thank you all for the positive opinions regarding our Dealership. New Salem Saab has struggled over the last few years due to the environment and the previous parent company. We once had two huge state of the art buildings, but as the Saab market and auto industry changed so did we. From an outside glance it would appear as though things were not going so well, however the opposite was in effect. My goal was to be able to jump ahead of the ball which in turn ment serious alterations to our business model including locations. We are ever so excited and greatful that we have been choosen to continue on with the new Saab. My grandfather started this company in 1947 and we were granted our franchise with Saab on March 23rd of 1961. I have been working in the dealership now since the age of 13 and have not strayed far from what my forefathers taught me. In doing so I remain the Service Manager here in my store as well as the Dealer Principle. I continue to work in the shop aside our technicians and with our customers to this day. Although limited in time, my heart is truely in to maintaining the Saab on the road today as a technician. We currently have four technicians and now looking to add another as all of the surrounding dealers, North Country Imports, Brownell Motors, Pioneer Valley and the most southern VT dealers did not receive the same letter from SCNA that we did. I understand the distance some of the customer have to drive for warranty work and have already submitted a request for the opening of warranty service centers in the Utica, Kingston and Glensfalls areas. However, there will be some time before SCNA finalizes the K-Saab deal leaving a severe gap in warranty needs for customers. There is no real time line for when these shops can come online so it is up to our store in Albany NY to maintain your trust and convienence to the best our our ability based on the circumstances. We cut a deal with Enterprise rent a car for a low daily rental fee and have already started to increase our parts departments breadth and scope to help shorten repairs times. I am unique and intend to stay that way. We tell it like it is and sometimes its hard to hear the truth, but we will happily take you our in the shop with our technicians and show you exactly what we are seeing and why. We currently have three master Saab technicians, two of which are also GM master techs. The fourth is a UTI grad and all have ASE's.
I feel bad for those that did not make the cut however it is now up to New Salem Saab to do everything we can to make sure we cater to our old and newest customers the best we can during this transition. Lou Roberti from Roberti Saab in Kingston is still here with us and going strong. He is the sales guy and I'm the service guy. The two of us make up a pretty strong team regarding Saab.
If your in need of warranty service or regular service please contact us at 518-862-2795 and ask for me,Darryl, Harold (my right hand man, with us for 14 years now) or our main Saab advisor, Matt. We will be happy to help any way we can.

Does anyone know if Sutliff Saab in Mechanicsburg, PA is staying?

Not very happy with entry being deleted - bad form for new responder:(:(

We just purchased our second Saab from Pioneer Valley and have had a third serviced there for the past several years. It is disappointing to see such a loyal (with others) dealership of 45 years being dismissed as if a failure. There are several dealerships in the immediate Boston area that have been retained - it would be much easier for Saab owners to change to another dealership in such close proximity. We have no where in the area - even Vermont has been affected. I wish them the best of luck in their appeal efforts!!!

I just spoke with Jere Haigh at Sutliff Service and they have lost their franchise along with Kelly in Lancaster. That means that there is no SAAB dealer in the Harrisburg/York/Lancaster Pennsylvania area (which is also the eleventh largest marketing area in the nation). If you have a newer SAAB that requires warranty work, you will have to go to Timonium, Allentown, or Westchester. I wish I knew if this was a GM stunt or one by the new Koenigsegg Group.

Does any one know about 128 Saab in Wakefield, MA?

Aristocrat Motors in the KC Suburb of Merriam, KS(SAAB, Mercedes, Land Rover, Jaguar, Porsche, Smart) will continue to cary the SAAB brand.

Swade,
Spazz may have beat me to the punch but here are the email responses for Devoe Saab in Naples, FL and Coast Saab in Sarasota, FL.

Devoe Saab (Naples, FL):
We have received countless emails about this subject. We did receive a "good" letter from Saab renewing our agreement with them. We will be the lone ranger south from Tampa and West from Miami.

Thank you for being a loyal customer, we could not have received the good news without having customers like yourself.

Coast Saab (Sarasota, FL):
We have received notification that we will not be renewed as a Saab dealer. We do have have some new 2009 Saab models available until November 30th if you would like to know more.Thank you, Linda

Hope this helps.

Kunkle Motors established in November 1957
is the oldest continuously owned SAAB Dealer in the United States. Kunkle motors have been notified that they will no longer be a Saab dealer. This news story was carried by WNEP channel 16 in PA

128 is out. Herb chambers saab in Boston is in.

Motorwerks in Barrington, IL (Chicago suburb) is closing.

**HOW TO GET SERVICE**

So... if my dealer is closing and the nearest dealer is now 30 miles away, how do I get my car repaired for warranty work? Can someone other than a dealer be authorized to perform warranty service?

If not, then what a shame -- AND NO MORE SAABS FOR ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. Looks like I'll have to buy a Volvo next time around.

Since the local SAAB dealers in my area (LA/Ventura Counties, California)are giving nice discounts, I've been considering a 2008 or 2009 9-3 convertible. I've been talking to 2 dealers. 1)Symes in Pasadena told me they will not remain a dealer, but will retain their service technicians. 2) Silverstar in Thousand Oaks will not give me a straight forward answer. What to do?

You're right; Milford is certainly a nicer, more modern looking location than Westport but what matters most is sales and Saab of Westport simply sells more Saabs. Westport is like a ghost town because they've sold everything and nobody is getting new cars. It looks like both dealers made the cut though and I think even Greenwich is still staying in the fray -- which is amazing when you think about it. That's 3 dealers in a span of 30-40 miles.

What is up with the NYC area...we haven't heard from Potamkin, City in Queens, 86th Street in Brooklyn and for that matter Beck in the Bronx/Yonkers area.

I am curious about this end of the NY area. I have been servicing at Beck for over 10 years and Efrain and his service is top notch. I can't see driving up to Katonah to service or for that matter Greenwich. I would never venture into NYC for service. What is Saab thinking...

We need a dealer in lower westchester. Beck may not sell 300-400 cars a year but their sergice is great.

This may all be mute...Saab may be going the way of Saturn and Pontiac...and Oldsmobile...as the deal fell through to sell the brand.

Looks like GM will have to honor the warranty, as they have to do for both Saturn and Pontiac. However based on my looking at what has happened with Saturn...GM has left many customers out in the cold on where to get their vehicle serviced under warranty when their saturn dealer closes.

GM has not handled the wind-down of Saturn very well...so don't expect much better with Saab.

Having to drive 3 hours from Metro Norfolk to Metro DC for warranty service is CRAZY!!

I can't believe the Saab dealer MAG of Dublin (Columbus metro), Ohio didn't make the cut. There are tons of Saabs running around Columbus. Their sales dept wasn't much, but the service dept is excellent.

Anyone know if MAG is still Saab friendly?

Massey Cadillac and Saab of Orlando is clearing out it's Saab inventory and will no longer be a Saab dealer. Is the list above those dealerships that have been cut or will remain open?

AH,

It is/was a list of dealers that were to remain open.

That list was compiled when the deal to sell Saab to Koenigsegg Group was still in effect. Now that that deal is cancelled, this list no longer applies.

When Saab is sold to a new buyer, Decision coming by December 31st, there will most likely be dealership cutbacks, but whether they'll be the same as what was done when this list was compiled remains to be seen.
