Griffin Up!

This whole campaign to support Saab in this sale process now has a theme song :-)

It's called Griffin Up! and it was written and recorded by a regular here at SU, a Swede named David Blumberg.

I reckon David's done an absolutely brilliant job of this. and to think that someone could be so moved as to put all that together is just really heartwarming.

------

For those who need some context here......

Christopher Johnson from Merbanco (one of the bidders for Saab) has commented on this site a number of times now and he signs off with the phrase "Cowboy Up!". People have adopted this and formulated their own "........ Up!" phrases, with David adopting Griffin Up! for the song.

Saab ist mein Auto und wer diese Firma über den Berg stößt, ist mein Feind auf alle Ewigkeit.

Great, GREAT video. Combines the past, present, and hopeful future.

What a great movie!!!!!!!!
SAAB UP!!!

What a pity that Aero-X never made into production.

Nicely Done!

Griffin Up!

Swade,

You are such a driving force for a great BRAND,, We here in Saab of Santa Ana in California are all waiting for a NEW BUYER!!!!!!

Ted.

Griffin Up! is brilliant... as for the Chevy Volt Dance, well, words fail me!

german n-tv has an article about the campaign online

http://www.n-tv.de/auto/reportagen/Saab-Freunde-kaempfen-article655866.html

it's okay but they should change the last paragraph. there are more than only one bidder! :-)

Sensation Effort !!!!!!!!!

Great clip too.... what a highlight reel :-)

Beautifully done, David.

Absolutely brilliant. Send it to all the radio stations now!

Daaaang! Thank you, David. Certainly one of the brightest spots of this past week and a half.

Griffin Up!

Thanks a lot, David Blumberg! Big pleasure.

But in the trust: These clever little marketing rascals of GM really really impressed me deeply. So Big Ed rocks the house now? Car Marketing 2.0? Wow!

(Last time I've seen such brilliance: That was 10 years ago: Opening of this new supermarket around the corner.)

***********************************************

german n-tv (link at bottom) writes "saabunited"
(That may be a new … technique ... or?)

Supurb.

Fantastic!

Fantastic and impressive work!! In addition to press releases, are
there Any financial support allowing other activities than press releases? Ex focused marketing s site or message? Again, great work!!

That is awesome!! Brought a smile to my face.

Of course my GM statement was about "Chevy Volt Dance"!
(Now deleted?)

David, great song and vid!

SU rocks, again!

Griffin UP indeed!

news on dn.se

http://www.dn.se/ekonomi/gm-anvander-9-5an-i-framtida-buick-1.1019824

google translation is not the best. dn wrote that saab 9-5 will be a new opel senator.

maybe someone can put a translation with keyfacts online.

another dirty proof of how they work at GM: let someone else develop a new model and then use it for your own good, without having to pay the costs of development.

bunch of *ssholes @ GM

i never was a fan of GM, and i think i never will, after reading the article in DN.se

looks like this campaign is starting to hit the international media:)

I won't boy any GM products at all if they kill Saab!!!!!!!!! Griffin Up now!!! Great video! I think GM will sell Saab, we hope!

great swedish press, just great...shame on you, your automotive indudtry is getting f@ched every minute and you like it. shame on you

SAAB WILL NEVER DIE! NEVER!
AND WHEN IT COMES TO LIFE, WE WILL ALL F@CK U ALL THE WAY

After reading DN article i hate GM even more!

The video was superb but hope the news about Opel taking the 9-5 as the Senator or alternatively Buick doing the same (thought that was already a Lucerne) is not so superb.

GM are a disgrace

this is the problem with GM

GM has no idea what to do , and no plan with OPEL.
that thing that OPEL doesn´t need yet is a OPEL senator. the opel brand has also demolished for years. Nobody who can afford it ( in europe) would by an OPEL premium car this time.
They have to produce their cheap small cars like OPEL CORSA or ASTRA

STOP with lies GM - The SAAB 9.5 is a Trollhättan product no Ruesselsheim product.

Fingers down for BIG ED

Don't read too much into that DN article. That GM would reuse stuff from the 9-5 only makes sense. It hurts, but it makes sense. It's not the reusing part that's evil, it's the shutting down part.

Brilliant video and excellent work on the song! Thank you for sharing with all of us!

Great video - imagine what GM (with their budgets) could have done to sell Saabs when they were supposedly trying if they used videos like these and the passion behind this video and song!

Why didn't they do things like use video of those Saabs in the snow? My point being that in addition to other shortcomings about GM's (mis)management of Saab, I don't think they did a great job with marketing as well.

As a lifelong Saab fan I always enjoy Saab ads, but those produced under GM didn't all have such passion nor did they help to attract new buyers not already familiar with the fantastic Saab brand.

Perhaps in its next life (I hope) Saab marketing will include things that promote what makes them special and shine!

Griffin Up!

the Saabforum-oracle has spoken:

i quote (copy/translate/paste, so the translation may be a bit shaky, we all know how google translates):

removed at the request of The Oracle

so:
fingers crossed & SAAB UP!
and if all goes well: NO SAAB 95NG AS OPEL SENATOR!(or worse).

Really nice video, I love SAAB comunity it's increadible and all together will achieve that SAAB will still alive for many many years!!!

I wrote today to the main German online newspapers and magazines (Der Spiegel, Bild, FTD, FAZ...) about Swade's (our...) campaign.

One of them, ntv.de, have already published a story about it:
http://www.n-tv.de/auto/reportagen/Saab-Freunde-kaempfen-article655866.html
It's called: Saab friends are fighting

Nice title...

it´s booth. GM has already taken stuff for the Insignia.

german union workers told medias to close SAAB ,and Trollhättan.

There is enough stuff - where is the swedish pride?? or is it also stolen by GM

Latest from the oracle of the Dutch Saabforum:

quote starts

**edited at the request of The Oracle - SW**

trans ends

Interesting...Spyker and Merbanco got into bed together? Fiat, after all? Or BMW? Can't be the Chinese, surely the oracle wouldn't consider that a good thing for Saab.

Ivo

"NO SAAB 95NG AS OPEL SENATOR" If they should attempt such shameful thing, they will burn in hell.

(Sometimes I could scream out loud.)

Just found a lovely bunch of Saab images put together in a row.

Great song and video!

According to "Dagens Industris" sources GM plans to use the new Saab 9-5 in their own model program, among others to a future Buick in the USA. In a letter to Saabs subcontractors GM has estimated the time for the closure of Saab to five years.

Sources whitin Saab Automobile has told "Dagens industri" that GM now sees positive opportunities with a closure of Saab. By using Saab's technique, tools and production equipment GM is able to take advatage of the new 9-5 - wich should have been introduced this spring - into a future Buick in USA.

Within GM the talks goes about using the Saab technique in a production of a new premium car for Opel, according to DI:s sources. In that case it would be a reintroduction for the previous abandoned Opel Senator in Europe.

According to estimations the value of the new Saab 9-5 model should be about the same as the Chinese BAIC payed for the technique rights of the old 9-5, which is 1,4 billion Swedish kronor (SEK).

DI:s sources also says that GM can get away with quite small costs for the closure of Saab if the American car giant takes sufficient of time for the wind down.

In a letter to Saabs subcontractors GM has estimated the time for the closure of Saab to five years. If the activity continues for some time the costs for removing the employees could be minimized.

According to those plans the merchandise inventory should be closed and on hand orders be delivered. Engineers and production technichians who builds BAIC's three Chinese "Saab"-factories will generate a income to GM for several years in the future.

Håkan Danielsson, chairman of the Akademikerna at Saab, says to DI that GM on a
committee meeting this Monday informed about a sketch for the closure. Lists shall now be worked out for which activities are to be stopped first and which should be continued.

"One thing is clar and that is that the Saab museum will survive", says Håkan Danielsson.

Griffin up!

A griffin' awesome job, Dave! :)

What a fantastic video!! Stunning, exciting, and passionate. Way to go, David.

David Up!

Awesome! Hope it'll spread like wildfire.

Nice job

Saab up!

Outstanding work!

Woo! Awesome song & video! Marvelous job!

What's funny though is I was thinking it would be cool if someone made a song about it. All I came up with is "A Song for a Saab" which is a parody of the new Smashing Pumpkins song "A Song for a Son." This was much better than anything I could've come up with--well done!

Griffin up!

WOW, Simply outstanding!!! You just have to be so proud to be a part of this movement....

Griffin UP!

Is there any way I can copy this to CD or MP3 to listen to when I drive my Combi?

David -

Great Video! The SAAB community is a special place! SAAB has to survive!

Wow, that writing, recording, and performing your own song for SAAB is impressive. Great job!!!!

This adds to the roller coaster ride this has been all along. Job well done! The new Saab may have found a marketing partner. I hope this final week ends on a high note as well. Let's get this behind and move the ball forward.

Saab Up!

I'm certain we'll get a surprise at the end of this, but it won't be Fiat. I'm pretty sure that would be a mixed blessing anyway. Didn't we cover this Fiat thing in SU six months ago?

Sorry wrong thread!

Love the clip BTW. Griffin Up!

Great work, David!
There are some nice cars yet to be done...

Swade Up!

Great Song. Blowing vid.

I need a MP3 of that! This could make it into the charts in no time.

BTW: Is this the guy:
http://mixonline.com/mag/audio_david_blumberg/

Griffing up!

Thanks everyone for you awesome comments! I must say I'm a bit surprised, I never expected this kind of warm reception =) We've received over 1600 views in just 15 hours!

I've sent the song to various radio stations in Sweden requesting them to play it. If this gets through we're gonna get lots of publicity. I'm hoping!

Anyone have more ideas of where we could send this video/song?

BTW, anyone who wants the mp3 version (such as 74stingray) can send me an email and I'll send it back.

Griffin Up!

Sorry!

YOU!!!!!!Mr. Blumberg... Very catchy tune..

I listented to it 4-5 times last night and have it on in my headset as I type this.

This morning I woke up and the first words out of my mouth to my wife was "Griffin UP"...... you can imagine the look.... it was the equivalent of "not now, I have a headache" LOL

Griffin UP!

DI just published an article about song "Griffin Up". It also features a shorter interview with David Blumberg.

http://di.se/Avdelningar/Artikel.aspx?ArticleID=2009\12\28\367130§ionid=BilMotor

Extremely compelling and well done!

My compliments to David Blumberg for an outstanding video/music production.

When Saab is reborn, and it WILL be reborn, the new owners should use this music video to relaunch the brand!

How about send it to the Ed Whitacre (GM CEO)!

Incredible Video and Song!

I feel proud watching this video to be a SAAB driver.

I didnt really like it that much. Some original videos would been better "as they are" or with different sound environment than used in this video.

very nice video. thx!

How about send it to the Ed Whitacre (GM CEO)!

Great video
