Griffin Up!

by Swade on December 28, 2009

This whole campaign to support Saab in this sale process now has a theme song :-)
It’s called Griffin Up! and it was written and recorded by a regular here at SU, a Swede named David Blumberg.

I reckon David’s done an absolutely brilliant job of this. and to think that someone could be so moved as to put all that together is just really heartwarming.
——
For those who need some context here……
Christopher Johnson from Merbanco (one of the bidders for Saab) has commented on this site a number of times now and he signs off with the phrase “Cowboy Up!”. People have adopted this and formulated their own “…….. Up!” phrases, with David adopting Griffin Up! for the song.

Griffin Up! is brilliant… as for the Chevy Volt Dance, well, words fail me!

9 solvy December 28, 2009 at 8:48 am

german n-tv has an article about the campaign online
http://www.n-tv.de/auto/reportagen/Saab-Freunde-kaempfen-article655866.html
it’s okay but they should change the last paragraph. there are more than only one bidder! :-)

Griffin Up!

Thanks a lot, David Blumberg! Big pleasure.

But in the trust: These clever little marketing rascals of GM really really impressed me deeply. So Big Ed rocks the house now? Car Marketing 2.0? Wow!
(Last time I’ve seen such brilliance: That was 10 years ago: Opening of this new supermarket around the corner.)
***********************************************
german n-tv (link at bottom) writes “saabunited”
(That may be a new … technique … or?)

That is awesome!! Brought a smile to my face.

19 ralf22 December 28, 2009 at 9:42 am

Of course my GM statement was about “Chevy Volt Dance”!
(Now deleted?)

news on dn.se
http://www.dn.se/ekonomi/gm-anvander-9-5an-i-framtida-buick-1.1019824
google translation is not the best. dn wrote that saab 9-5 will be a new opel senator.
maybe someone can put a translation with keyfacts online.

22 9kCDgriffin December 28, 2009 at 10:07 am

another dirty proof of how they work at GM: let someone else develop a new model and then use it for your own good, without having to pay the costs of development.
bunch of *ssholes @ GM
i never was a fan of GM, and i think i never will, after reading the article in DN.se

23 Dippen December 28, 2009 at 10:08 am

looks like this campaign is starting to hit the international media:)

24 Daniel December 28, 2009 at 10:08 am

I won’t boy any GM products at all if they kill Saab!!!!!!!!! Griffin Up now!!! Great video! I think GM will sell Saab, we hope!

25 M December 28, 2009 at 10:10 am

great swedish press, just great…shame on you, your automotive indudtry is getting f@ched every minute and you like it. shame on you
SAAB WILL NEVER DIE! NEVER!
AND WHEN IT COMES TO LIFE, WE WILL ALL F@CK U ALL THE WAY

26 Kittciokas December 28, 2009 at 10:11 am

After reading DN article i hate GM even more!

27 Kurt W. Krauss December 28, 2009 at 10:13 am

The video was superb but hope the news about Opel taking the 9-5 as the Senator or alternatively Buick doing the same (thought that was already a Lucerne) is not so superb.

28 Jon December 28, 2009 at 10:15 am

GM are a disgrace

29 SAAB_andee December 28, 2009 at 10:16 am

this is the problem with GM
GM has no idea what to do , and no plan with OPEL.
that thing that OPEL doesn´t need yet is a OPEL senator. the opel brand has also demolished for years. Nobody who can afford it ( in europe) would by an OPEL premium car this time.
They have to produce their cheap small cars like OPEL CORSA or ASTRA
STOP with lies GM – The SAAB 9.5 is a Trollhättan product no Ruesselsheim product.
Fingers down for BIG ED

30 gunteman December 28, 2009 at 10:19 am

Don’t read too much into that DN article. That GM would reuse stuff from the 9-5 only makes sense. It hurts, but it makes sense. It’s not the reusing part that’s evil, it’s the shutting down part.

31 Steve December 28, 2009 at 10:21 am

Brilliant video and excellent work on the song! Thank you for sharing with all of us!
Great video – imagine what GM (with their budgets) could have done to sell Saabs when they were supposedly trying if they used videos like these and the passion behind this video and song!
Why didn’t they do things like use video of those Saabs in the snow? My point being that in addition to other shortcomings about GM’s (mis)management of Saab, I don’t think they did a great job with marketing as well.
As a lifelong Saab fan I always enjoy Saab ads, but those produced under GM didn’t all have such passion nor did they help to attract new buyers not already familiar with the fantastic Saab brand.
Perhaps in its next life (I hope) Saab marketing will include things that promote what makes them special and shine!
Griffin Up!

32 9kCDgriffin December 28, 2009 at 10:23 am

the Saabforum-oracle has spoken:
i quote (copy/translate/paste, so the translation may be a bit shaky, we all know how google translates):
removed at the request of The Oracle
so:
fingers crossed & SAAB UP!
and if all goes well: NO SAAB 95NG AS OPEL SENATOR!(or worse).

33 Neo December 28, 2009 at 10:28 am

Really nice video, I love SAAB comunity it’s increadible and all together will achieve that SAAB will still alive for many many years!!!

34 Alexandros December 28, 2009 at 10:29 am

I wrote today to the main German online newspapers and magazines (Der Spiegel, Bild, FTD, FAZ…) about Swade’s (our…) campaign.
One of them, ntv.de, have already published a story about it:
http://www.n-tv.de/auto/reportagen/Saab-Freunde-kaempfen-article655866.html
It’s called: Saab friends are fighting
Nice title…

35 SAAB_andee December 28, 2009 at 10:29 am

it´s booth. GM has already taken stuff for the Insignia.
german union workers told medias to close SAAB ,and Trollhättan.
There is enough stuff – where is the swedish pride?? or is it also stolen by GM

36 ivo 71 December 28, 2009 at 10:33 am

Latest from the oracle of the Dutch Saabforum:
quote starts
**edited at the request of The Oracle – SW**
trans ends
Interesting…Spyker and Merbanco got into bed together? Fiat, after all? Or BMW? Can’t be the Chinese, surely the oracle wouldn’t consider that a good thing for Saab.
Ivo

37 ralf22 December 28, 2009 at 10:34 am

“NO SAAB 95NG AS OPEL SENATOR” If they should attempt such shameful thing, they will burn in hell.
(Sometimes I could scream out loud.)

38 Gunnar December 28, 2009 at 10:39 am

Just found a lovely bunch of Saab images put together in a row.
