Saab Support Convoy summary

by Swade on January 11, 2010

The Saab Support Convoy movement started in Holland and it’s fair to say it’s now going worldwide.
The following is the list of Saab Support Convoys that we know about so far:

I’ve also read in comments that organisation for an event in Russia is also beginning.
With the numbers attending some of these events, it’s estimated that the number of participants around the world will number well over 1,000.
How many rallied for Pontiac, again?
The idea of these convoys is to show support for Saab, regardless of the decision that’s made about Saab’s future. Of course, the fact that the media is interested in them before the decision comes is also of benefit (I did an interview with TV4 in Sweden earlier tonight about it, amongst other things).
Griffin Up!!

Our convoy is gaining momentum now.
But we need more, more, more.
Let’s make it BIG!
Many thanks for your support here, Steven.

Come on Adelaide. We need you on Sunday at IKEA!

I talked about it with ralf22 and on his suggestion I contacted a couple of weeks ago some regional Saab Clubs in Germany. The two that did respond were in a cautious position waiting what will happen but were not negative on running a convoy (“Sternfahrt”) to GM Europe in Rüsselsheim.
Also on http://www.saab-cars.de there was little enthousiasm at all (MartinSaab and Thilo are you here too?).
ralf 22 told me that rescue-saab cannot afford to organize it due to personell problems but they would offer their data base to mobilize people in Germany.
Some people from Germany will join the convoys in NL and B.
Also I guess that some will join convoys in CH when organized.

Any developments on the Melbourne front? I’ve gotten no responses so far from Sandra (I should be more patient :) ). I can bring the 9-3 and have persuaded my Dad to come with his 9-5.

Keep a eye on the forums.
We will update tomorrow :)

8 Mike900 January 11, 2010 at 10:15 pm

Thanks Al…..
If we can get details together quickly and make up a flyer (I’m happy to help) it would be awesome.
I’m planning to keep a fat stack of them in the car and drive around Melbourne plastering Saab windscreens for the next 5 days !!!!
On a side note…. how about this 36 C at 10PM!

9 alaero January 11, 2010 at 10:20 pm

Details are coming..
Yes 36 is stupid hot for this time of night, but sitting in a/c at the inlays is awesome!

10 Markac January 11, 2010 at 10:22 pm

“how about this 36 C at 10PM!”
Fun isn’t it. Wait it just dropped to 33 C here. Woopy doo!

11 flygirl January 11, 2010 at 10:34 pm

Yeah, I’ll sign on for flyers. There are two Saabs parked regularly outside my work which is like…heaps by Melbourne standards!

12 Mike900 January 11, 2010 at 10:35 pm

Must get me some air-conditioned inlaws one day….I think I’m going to have to step into a cold shower for now though.
Sunday looks like good Saab driving weather, 22C :-)

Hi all,
I favour of keeping the good faith of the Saab Spirit and support and love for the brand and future, I am planning to take my son with me over to Trollhättan on Sunday.
I just had one thought as there probably will be some media covarage of this here in Sweden:
Since the plan is to visit the Saab Museum first off -Why not contact somebody there that have the rights to decide, to take out the 9-4X (if it is at the museum) the NG 9-5 (There are some out in traffic so that shouldn´t be a problem to drive an Aero from the factory to the Museum and show it to the people there)
The 9-3X and the Electric 9-3 as well since they are more or less “new”
This would give media a great coverage pointing out that there ARE customers out there and that there IS new products in the line up for the near future!
While they are still at it, Take out the Aero X, the 9-X BioHybrid and 9-X Air as well as they are all a fantastic statement of what Saab should and can be in the future.
So… Just imagine:
Approximately 500 (i don´t know, maybe more?) people there with their Saabs,
A lineup inside the museum with the following cars:
9-3X
9-3 All Electric (sorry if I got the name wrong)
NG 9-5
9-4X
9-X Air
9-X Biohydrid
Aero X
As well as imagine the press covering the whole thing. It will not change GM´s mind I´m sure but it WILL show the market and media that there are fantastic products and buyers there and just around the corner!
well i would love to see the NG 9-5 SC as well but even I know that there are limits… :)
I will get this comment on the saabturboclub forum as well since they are orginising the whole thing.
My only question:
Who at the museum whould be able to pull such a thing off? And who would be the guy to win that guy over? Swade do you have any suggestions? Anyone who´s well connected to the museum? STCS anyone?
Anyway. That´s my humble (and maybe stupendous idea to support Saab)
/Daniel

Whatever happened to the Massachusetts or New England convoys that were mentioned a week ago? Any news on those still going on or have those fallen by the way-side?

17 74Stingray January 12, 2010 at 1:02 am

I was wondering the same thing myself…
I am up for one around Philadelphia if anyone else is!

18 Trogg January 12, 2010 at 2:28 am

I’m not sure why I post here because my posts keep getting removed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. All the worlds media is in D.C. waiting for something to happen 24hrs a day 7 days a week. Lots of SAABs in the capitol area. GM is majority owned by the US government. That’s where the convoy should be.

19 Kittciokas January 12, 2010 at 2:38 am

@SWADE – CONVOY
We’re planning convoy in LITHUANIA, don’t know if it will happen. I’m trying to find people who could organise it, because i couldn’t attend the event.
17th January 2010 – 13:00 (1:00 PM) (UTC+02:00)
Get together and go in convoy to USA Embassy
17th January 2010 – 14:00 (2:00 PM) (UTC+02:00)
Stand by the embassy with SAVE SAAB signs on our cars, maybe speak to media, if we will attract some and after 30minutes or an hour go somewhere together (maybe to pizza) and fall apart.

Trogg, are you sure your posts are removed?
If you post links, you better have an account. Otherwise your posts will be moderated, and Swade are already working double shifts as it is.
A convoy in DC is a good idea though.

If you guys do a DC convoy, I’ll drive down from NY. -JD

Hi Kinglake, Thanks so much for that. I’ve heard back from Sandra who suggests that nothing has been finalised (but will keep me informed), Shane actually wrote back said that there was nothing organised and that it was too hard! Have they managed to get 20 cars?

25 sab January 12, 2010 at 12:35 pm

27 flygirl January 12, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Ok, checked out the SCCA forum at last, it DOES give details even if Sandra doesn’t :-) I have engagements until 10am but will try to get away early to make it to Port Melbourne. I imagine I will just make it by 11am to Port Melbourne.

28 sab January 12, 2010 at 12:52 pm

29 flygirl January 12, 2010 at 12:56 pm

Many thanks!
If you have the route plan, could you please email it to me at u p u l i e @ g m a i l dot c o m :-) Great work in organising it so quickly!

30 Mike900 January 12, 2010 at 2:48 pm

Ok so I’m in for me and the 900 Aero…. unfortunately the Viggen is in for repairs and won’t be ready for the weekend :-(
So I’m definitely in.
Sidenote…. Sandra mentioned she’s putting a flyer together. I kid you not, I am going to plaster every Saab in Melbourne with those flyers.
I’m not trying to be funny here…… I’m going to search neighbourhoods for every Saab in Melbourne.
Media from Automotive press would also be a good idea…… I’m sure we’ll have enough cars present to make some good photos for a short article about Save Saab.

31 Mike900 January 12, 2010 at 2:55 pm

Oh…. and Griffin Up !!!! :-)

32 Ferr900 January 12, 2010 at 7:12 pm
