Report: Saab AB has no problem with the proposed Saab Spyker name

by Swade on February 17, 2010

Dutch news agencies are reporting that Saab AB have posed no objection to the prospect of a new entity named Saab Spyker.
Googletrans:

“We have absolutely nothing against Spyker Cars’ takeover of car brand Saab, which we see even very positive” said press officer Ulrika Fager. “There is no risk of confusion, because the car has a different mission from the defense company Saab.”

That’s very good news, indeed.
The resolution proposed with regard to the company name at the Spyker Cars EGM last week was postponed because of a lack of clarity about approval for use of the Saab name. It now looks likely that there won’t be a problem with this.

I think they are happy not being linked with GM any more. ;-)

I beg to differ (LOL):

DI had the Dutch paper scooped by a day with this DI article. :-)
Also, The Local is reporting that Muller has an open door to Antonov returning: “Muller has said Vladimir Antonov intends to prove that the accusations against him are false and that he expects the Russian to return to the company as a shareholder.”
He’s welcome as far as I am concerned.

This does not surprise me. It’s really business as usual isnt it? But it is nice to see all the pieces falling into place.
I cant wait to see the new 9-5 in person, and someday own one!
These are truly ground-breaking days for the future of the most important international niche brand.

Think there’s any chance that with the new name they’ll bring back the old prop plane logo? So much cooler than the griffin one and a great way to go back to SAAB’s roots.

This is good news. Though nothing huge, it is good news. Things are as they should be.
We’re almost there now guys!

I visited my local saab dealer today, and guess what!!
They have started selling alfa romeo’s. The man in charge said they would most probably NOT sell saab in the future, but would take care of services and repair for the saab cars.
What is wrong with certain people???? For the first time in 20 years saab has finally got a future and then certain people don’t want to be part of it!!!
WHY??? They have sold saab for almost 20 years under GM and now, all of a sudden, they appear with negativity!!! WHERE IS THE LOGIC??? I can see only possibilities for the future of saab!!!

Only Scania left. So the name is ensured, only logo left.

Yes, both companies have much to benefit by having their names linked. It even rolls off the tongue nicely ~ Saab Spyker.

Very good news indeed!! Remember the cases of Rover and Rolls Royce?
@Bergtor: and the oldest Saab dealer in Munich, DE started selling Volvos. Boy!

I never imagined the SAAB Spyker name would be a problem, but some Swedish papers just latch on to anything they can find that could potentially be a “problem” and present it as if it’s a scoop.. They sure have left the tracks long ago.

Bergtor,
I think simply that saab dealers are dying.
They have 0 real information about future.
They have companies to run, people to pay. In front of them no answers at all.
In france, dealers have nothing to answer to customer wondering when the 95 NG will be available. They don’t have even the price.
Most of them are true lovers of the brand.
But after such a long time it has turn in question of life or dead of their business.
There’s 2 emergencies for VM and the new SAAB SPYKER company :
1. To have a strong plan with new models. To explain , to communicate this plan and to give readibility for the future.
2. To support exclusive dealers before they die.
