Saab GB to commence “Re-Bjorn” campaign this weekend

by Swade on February 25, 2010

I hinted at this one last week and with the sale of Saab to Spyker now complete, it’s now coming out in the open.
Re Bjorn
The event begins on February 26 and goes to March 1 and Saab are encouraging all customers in the UK to get down to their dealers for some great buying and perhaps the chance to win back the purchase price of their car.
From the Independence Weekend website…..

We have some exceptional celebration offers. Here’s just a few to whet your appetite:

I have a SAAB dealer just down the street (literally), and I have the day off work – maybe I should pay them a visit… it’s time to update/upgrade from my 1995 9000 CDE after all…

Bjorn Again is a very well known Abba-tribute band in UK, I think the use of “Bjorn” is partly linked to this.

20 Ken H February 25, 2010 at 10:49 pm

Bjorn Again is of course an Australian band, just in case our aussie friends just choked… :-)

Just got the mail through the letter box, and a big well done to Concept Saab (Birmingham, Cardiff, Coventry and Leamington Spa).
Concept Saab are on the ball already sending out Re-Bjorn mail shots to existing customers.
It’s a pity I can’t afford to take up one of the offers, as I will be paying for my Step Daughters wedding this year.
Concept Saab are offering the following:
New 9-3 convertible 1.8t Linear SE

22 sorrel February 25, 2010 at 11:15 pm

Squire Furneaux in Dunstable are offering the same deal, plus the “Win your money back” competition.
Might go down and take a look at the 30% off Hirsch (for cars after ’06) offer… :) )

23 Anonymous February 25, 2010 at 11:25 pm

Yes, I’ve heard of the band. But the question remains – what does it have to do with Saab? For an ABBA cover band, the name is appropriate because of Bj

Why are some people having issues with the Re-Bjorn slogan?
Ikea advertise on British TV using a chap speaking English with an obvious put on Swedish accent. No one seems to complain about that.
Humour is subjective and as long as its not Racist or degrading then I don’t have a problem with it.
The ad I like the most at the moment is the Money Supermarket one, where the Iranian guy says that they have a name for people who can’t haggle, “we call them British!”. Funny but true
Personally I like Re-Bjorn it’s a good play on words and conveys the message and the Swedishness of the car.
It might not work in Countries other than the UK, as each country and their people will no doubt have a different sense of humour.
I think our American cousins might get it, remember the movie Trading Places with Helga from Sweden?

It also remebers me from the new C5 advertisment in the UK.
Where the daily life of a “german” guy is hown. I thought it was funy, but the germans were a little bit irritated by this advertisment.

32 RMinNJ February 26, 2010 at 12:38 am

Dealer installed Hirsch upgrades at a discount would be very welcome in the USA. Having details in the showroom would be a good way to get people in to see new models while checking out upgrades for their current vehicle.

“Bjorn from jets” – LOL
Well, all I have to say at this stage is:
“Saab Spyker Cars”, wouldn’t that translate into:
(Swedish) Svenska Aeroplan (Aktiebolag)
+
(Dutch) Spyker
+
(English) Cars
+
(Dutch) (Naamloze vennootschap)
Or all into one language:
“Swedish aircraft (limited) nails cars (limited)”, which is a funny thouhgt I think :-)

I think of the commercial with a mayday call: Mayday, mayday, we are sinking! The german coast guard operator answers: Hallo, what are you sinking about? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh5xu35bAxA
Pretty funny, no offence to you Germans, I guess there are plenty of Swedish equivalents out there ;-)

Off topic but here in the US the death of Hummer has been announced. Apparently the Chinese government killed the deal and now GM will “wind down the brand in an orderly fashion”. Sound familiar? We are very very lucky that Saab was saved.

48 Squirrel Furrynuts February 26, 2010 at 3:12 am

The Hirsch Software upgrade promotion this coming weekend is generating alot of interest that local dealer Squire Furneaux based in Dunstable & Welwyn Garden City are willing to stay open until 8:30pm on Monday 1st March to avoid any customer disappointment.

49 andrew February 26, 2010 at 3:59 am

I think everyone complaining about the Re-Bjorn tagline should remember that we british do have a well developed sense of humour, some people in cold climates might not understand that…

50 Saab Man February 26, 2010 at 4:00 am

Come on guys you need to get a grip! Bjorn is very well associated in the UK for being swedish and it is clever that is can be pronounced ‘Born’ in English i.e Born Again! very clever and the timing is amazing……. Got my letter from Viking saab yesterday so I am off to get a Hirsch upgrade unless I can be persuaded into a ????

Well i think that we all swedes here wonder is what re-bjorn comes from and as someone here have told us that bjorn is pronounced born that will be funny with re-born. we swedes have a sense of humour but it isn’t funny for us. but it’s very cleaver.
Thanks for the clarifycation =)
