Eurotuner Saab 900 article now online

by Swade on March 17, 2010

Last month I posted about a magnificent Saab 900 Convertible that had been covered in Eurotuner magazine. It was the first time they’d featured a Saab (quite unbelievable, I know, given how tuneable they are) so it was kind of a big deal.
Eurotuner Saab 900
I featured some scans of the article at that time, but the article is now available online for those who didn’t have the time (or the inclination) to battle through the scans.
This really is one very special convertible, so be inspired and enjoy!

I wanted to post this in the forum, but I still can’t find a link to the forums!!! :-P
Talking about tuning;
Does any SU-reader own an Hirsch-updated 9-5 Aero?
I mean the 300HP beast.
I would love to know how many “smiles per gallon” do you get on that car.
BTW, I’m still quite respectfull with my “Dame Redna” but I already get lots of “smiles per gallon” :-) )

Could it be: http://imcdb.org/images/225/083.jpg
Any other suggestions?

Anyone know where the “brief Saab tuning guide elsewhere in this issue” they refer to is?

Oh, how I wish I had the time and/or the money to own a car like that! It has all I need to satisfy my mid-life crisis, it’s a quirky Saab, lots of power to blow away the Mustang kids and feel the sun on my (balding) head.

VM of course.

Me, the forum can be found by typing “saabsunited.com” (like normal), and then at the last minute, _before_ you hit the Enter key, type “/forum”. You will then reach a non-sensical page which holds a link to the forum (in the menu). Quite easy to remember. ;)
On a more serious note: Is the red line supposed to represent the Hirsched version? What happened with the torque at lower RPMs?

The dotted lines are the ones for the original Aero, black for torque and red for power; the solid lines are the hirsched ones.
You can see that this monster have a constant torque of 400 Nm from 2000rpm till 5500rpm.
In comparison the TTiD curve have only a 430Nm peak.
(Dotted line -> original; solid line -> Hirsch)
The curve of the Hirsch updated Turbo X is more impresive, but the TurboX has XWD where the 9-5 Aero is FWD.

Ah, I totally messed up reading that chart! I’m getting old.
That is quite a nice improvement!
I thought you completely Hirsched your Redna already? Or did that not include the engine tuning? Saving the best for last? :)
BTW: Had I had any less power in my car, I would have been trailer food yesterday. I thought I was about to overtake a Volvo suv and two road trains, but there was a third road train up front that was hidden from view (since it was driving in the road shoulder in case anyone wanted to attempt to drive past it). That combined with the fourth trailer heading the opposite direction was a nasty surprise. I was accelerating from 30 to 120 kph in third gear (on a 90 kph road). No time for changing gears, nor any need to. :)

Yes I did. But I don’t have the Aero engine, I only have the “low power version” ;-)
But after the Hirsch treatment I am more or less in Viggen territory ;-)

Thanks Swade! I appreciate the good press ;-)
I hadn’t even noticed that they had uploaded the article already.
