The Saab Ad that you made :-)

by Swade on March 3, 2010

Small-ish version available on Facebook. I’m going to tap Lowe for a big version and will make it available asap.
This ad is made up of photos from the various Saab Support Convoys that were held back in January. This is the ad that you made possible with your dedication, your willingness to act, and of course, with your cameras.
Congratulations!!!

You’re right, this is a gorgeous ad… Our beloved SAAB is not only acknowledging our love and hard work, but is displaying it. . . long live SAAB and its followers. . .

Wow!
Totally speachless.
The Toronto Saab convoy is in there … in 5 pictures!!!
I knew about one (it was a shot I took), but the others sort of snuck up on us.
Very nicely done everyone.
Shows what we can all do when we all have the same goal.

Very cool ad. It really shows that Saab isn’t an ordinary brand.
I what media has it been printed? I havn’t seen it before.

Awesome!! Nice work convoyeurs(?)

5 Toby March 3, 2010 at 9:47 am

That’s so cool!
Now can we get back to designing a new car :)

awesome and wonderful!..this can only happen in Saab world :)

13 aizzo March 3, 2010 at 10:18 am

Very cool indeed. I have a photo in the grid and Saab had sent me a proof of just the composite photo to get approval. But it was just the photo, no copy. It’s really neat to see all together. I’m happy Saab picked up the ball on all the great energy that was created by the convoys and made use of it!

14 Mike900 March 3, 2010 at 10:41 am

Fantastic!
Also glad to see at least one of the lovely ladies from St Petersburg make the cut ;-D

15 1985 Gripen March 3, 2010 at 10:44 am

The second picture from the left on the second row is the Los Angeles Saab Club. I’m the one holding the “Save Saab” sign above his head “Say Anything” style! :-)

16 Paul March 3, 2010 at 10:47 am

That’s awesome! You’re famous!
I’m still humbled at being a little part of this whole thing. Every time I hear JAJ or VM mention the convoys, the Saab customers, or see something like this, it almost makes me tear up a little…

17 Jim850 March 3, 2010 at 10:48 am

this is so cool!

18 Brett (raquettelaker2) March 3, 2010 at 10:54 am

I can’t wait to get a decent quality version of this and make it my desktop background! Maybe I’ll sneak into work and print it in large format. Teehehe…

19 PT March 3, 2010 at 10:58 am

A very thoughtful & powerful guesture by Saab. Has any marque ever been this in-tune with its customers?

20 Mark March 3, 2010 at 11:29 am

That is incredible. If it makes print, it’s one for a frame…

21 Dan March 3, 2010 at 11:33 am

Swade, please be so kind to inquire about making a PDF available. PDF preserves the finest detail quality and will make it great for us to print perhaps in poster-sizes. Since this was undoubtedly made in one of the professional page-layout apps that all ad designers use (InDesign, Quark, Pages) there is undoubtedly some PDF of it floating around.

22 Eggs n Grits March 3, 2010 at 11:34 am

Good stuff that acknowledges the brand’s true equity: enthusiasts.
@PT: The UKers can correct me here, but I’ll put the MG of the 1950′s, 1960′s and early 1970′s in this category, and I’ll say that the Chrysler of the muscle car days was in good tune with their customers. It is rare outside the small-volume marques like Ferrari and Porsche.

23 GerritN March 3, 2010 at 11:37 am

Porsche is not small volume! There are more Porsches driving around here than Saabs.

24 SAABoy March 3, 2010 at 12:15 pm

I’d be very interested in a PDF as well :D And a print copy. I will frame it AND put it in my everyday school binder/folder :D

25 peter marmberg March 3, 2010 at 1:24 pm

I saw this ad in my morning paper (Sweden). Awesome. X 10.

26 North Toronto Punter March 3, 2010 at 1:39 pm

Quite amazing (and fortuitous — thanks to quick consents) that the Toronto convoy got 20% of the photos! Very proud to have been a (small)part.
(And if you pull out your electron microscopes you’ll see my fist (face obscured) raised defiantly against the backdrop of Mordor North [aka GM Canada]).
It’s the Taiwanese formation, however, that I find the most inspirational: To Infinity…
@ Swade: I know the Canadian Gals are spoken for, but if the St. Pete’s one ain’t (front row) then would you mind calling in a favour and getting me her number:) [@ Kroum:Snooze you lose!]

27 Ryan McLean March 3, 2010 at 2:20 pm

While making the other ads available in PDF format was /very/ generous, they were only big enough for an 8.5×11 — if possible (and it may not be), please make this available in a size suitable for a poster print!

28 Tedjs March 3, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Agree – a larger version would be very cool to print out. My redone office needs some Saab art on the walls. :-)

29 Glenn March 3, 2010 at 3:40 pm

I love it, I love it!!
HOWEVER, I hope someone notices quickly that there is an editing error!!
3rd paragraph, 3rd sentence starts out, “The the deal is signed and…”
Double “the’s”!!!
Hope it gets caught!!

30 Chris Carrier March 3, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Speaking of ads, the Saab USA site needs to fix that homepage. The cars in the background (9-3s, old 9-5) were take with wide angle lenses up close whereas the new 9-5 in the foreground was taken with a telephoto/zoom lens. The wide angle from a short distance serves to make the lengthen the lines of the car and give a dramatic feel.
The perspective is totally different and makes the new 9-5 look dorky and sqaut by comparison. Surely there’s a better photo to use for it.

31 Swade March 3, 2010 at 3:46 pm

The text was so small I hadn’t bothered to try and read it yet.
I’ll send them a note. Thanks for that.

32 svizzera March 3, 2010 at 5:36 pm

Moscow and StPetersburg present!
waiting for a big version

33 ayrshirexc90 March 3, 2010 at 6:54 pm

If Saab were to make this available as a professionally produced poster, which could be bought from Saab dealers, it would help both the dealers and us. I would be happy to pay

34 mr_ebbot March 3, 2010 at 7:20 pm

Awesome marketing I must say! The hade a full page ad in my local newspaper one day after the signing.

35 Anddeu March 3, 2010 at 7:52 pm

Great gesture! Thanks.

36 awesome! March 3, 2010 at 8:20 pm

I am eagerly awaiting a bigger version!!!

37 till72 March 3, 2010 at 8:21 pm

Great one. Hope this is the start of bringing Saab marketing back on track…
And I’d love to get it as a poster.

38 flygirl March 3, 2010 at 9:01 pm

What a great gesture! Hope this pops up here as well.
And Toby, I like, I like….

39 Dejjvid March 3, 2010 at 9:15 pm

If i get the InDesign/Quark folder of the eng version, and permission from Saab. I can print it for a silly low cost. I can even print wallpapers if someone wanna decorate their livingroom.. ;)
.
When i find time i will print a rollup 100x200cm of the ad so we can display it in the car sale area.. :) Will post the result on the forums later.. :)

Hey guys, I did a translation in the crazy design-post a few days ago:
Its hard to read from the small jpg posted online so I cant guarantee 100% accuracy;
“To all of you that never stopped believing”
Thank you.
Thank you Saab owners, members of Saab clubs and enthusiasts who have driven in convoys around the world. Thank you suppliers, dealers, unions, representatives for municipalities and regions, the government and many, many more who have supported and helped us.
And thank you all employees. It’s like there’s something in the tap water in Trollh

41 Olga March 4, 2010 at 6:32 am

Really? in what newspaper did you see this ad?
Could you give me the link to it?
