Saab 9-4x at New England Auto Show

The New England Auto Show is on right now (Dec 1-5) and the Saab 9-4x is there, in black!

Luxvelocity was there and had a lot of kind things to say about the 9-4x and the Saab stand in general.

When Colleran was done speaking, the sheet was pulled off to reveal the all new SAAB Aero X concept inspired SAAB 9-4X. My initial thoughts when seeing the car in person was that this new SAAB is incredible sleek, sporty, and aerodynamic looking. It is a SAAB 9-5 in a mide scale luxury SUV package.

OK, the Aero-X and 9-4x bit is back to front, but you get the message….

The SAAB display in itself was the star of the New England Motor Show and did not differ too much from the LA display. Walking into the display made you feel like you were walking into a world of SAAB and the display had so much personality.

The Saab stand is indeed a beautiful thing.

I hope some of you get along to the New England show and see the Saab 9-4x for yourselves. As always, it’s much better in the metal.

It’s a bit hard when the lower part is dark grey. I do understand your point, but I really like it that there is a difference. 🙂

For the black car I had preferred the plastics to be black like on the 9-3x. Visible but a bit more hidden on a black car.

But in the end… this car is so beautiful. Where can I pick it up?

My opinion is that this kind of car only do well in light colours like white or silver. The dark plastic cant handle black metal. Also its silly to glue plastic to a car to make it look what its not. This goes for all the cars in this segment. Its time to lose the plastic excuse and saab should be the first one to do it.

Painted metal and plain plastic reflect the light differently, as the lower bumper part is not painted you will always see in a photo a tone difference between plastic and painted metal. To have a real opinion about it you should see the car on the street under sun light.

BTW, some manufacturers also have problems matching the tone of the painted metal parts and the painted plastic bumpers.

True on that last part about problems for manufacturer about matching color on metal and plastic. If I do remember right that was one of the problem why the 9-5 was just launched with some few colors that later on was extended for the ’11-model.

I agree completely – they should paint that plastic black and get rid of the two tone stuff. I think it works ok on white and other light colors, but not with black.

If that was all black then I think you have a car that is just a smash knockout.

Remember I read some one being critical that it wasn’t possible to enter the 9-4X at the LA show. Perhaps it is possible now.

That person missed a piece of information given to us by Swade.
The car in LA was a pre-pre-series prototype not even build in Mexico. Saab did the same in 2009 in Frankfurt with the 9-5 and most of the people were moaning about quality. (The cars exposed in sept 09 in Frankfurt were build in Rüsselsheim)

I will be there on Sunday, can’t wait. I’ll be sure to take pictures if there aren’t already some posted(I’m sure there will be). I hope we get to sit in the 9-4x. The NE Auto Show typically is lacking in the elaborate-displays category so the wonderful Saab display will certainly make a good impression compared to other brands.

Yes I’m, let loose
From the noose
That’s kept me hanging about
I keep looking at the sky
‘Cause it’s gettin’ me high
Forget the hearse ’cause I’ll never die
I got NINE lives
Cat’s eyes
Usin’ every one of them and running wild

Will SAAB get Russian owners in May? http://www.teknikensvarld.se/nyheter/101202-spykersaab-antonov/index.xml Via Google translate: When Saab deal between GM and Spyker were up for almost a year ago, the former Spyker owners Vladimir Antonov tidy away at GM’s orders. But now, the Antonov into the picture again when he could become the new owner of Spyker Cars, due to a loan that Muller will have to pay back. In late January this year it became official that Spyker will take over Saab after GM’s years with the Swede. This, after tough negotiations in which one of GM’s requirements was that the then-Russian majority… Read more »

this time the Googletrans is difficult to understand!!!
What would Mr. Antonov get if Mr Muller fail to pay the money back, the Spyker factory or the Spyker company ?

BengtP

In swedish:
“Skulle Muller inte ha möjlighet att betala tillbaka beloppet övergår ägandet av Spyker Cars sportbilstillverkning och fabrik till Vladimir Antonov, från och med den 1 maj.”

If Muller can’t pay, the ownership of Spyker Cars manufacturing of sport cars and factory is transfered to Vladimir Antonov, from may 1:th

The Google translation is correct, but the article is diffuse.
My question is this: Is Spyker Cars NV the company that manufacture the Spyker cars or is the Spyker car manufacturing unit a subsidiary of Spyker Cars NV like Saab Automobile AB is a subsidiary of Spyker Cars?

Answer to my own quesiton: From Google finance, a bit out of date, but I assume that the organization of the Spyker group is still the same: Spyker Cars is the top-holding company of a group of companies and associates, consisting of three wholly owned subsidiaries in the Netherlands; Spyker Automobielen B.V.; Spyker Squadron B.V.; and Spyker Events & Branding B.V.; a 100% subsidiary in the United States of America: Spyker of North America, LLC; a 100% subsidiary in the United Kingdom: Spyker Cars UK Ltd.; a 51% interest in Spyker of China Ltd., established in Hong Kong, Peoples Republic… Read more »

Correct, but it doesn´t mather, my guess is that Vladimir and and Victor has the same view on Saab, Vladimir is part owner thrue Tenaci but not on paper, all this to convince GM to sell = Antonov is just as big a hero as Victor and J-Å.

I hope he gets to be owner for real soon. A loaded car-guy, doesn´t get any better.

According to the story (if I understand it correctly) Victors private company Tenaci have loaned 248 million SEK and the deal gives Antonov the right to take control of Spyker cars(sportscar part only) if the debt is not fully repaid by the last day of April.
So I do not really see how this would effect SAAB. Victor said that it could be good for SAAB since Spyker cars needs a lot of cash to carry on which SAAB doesn’t because of the fully founded businessplan.

So? Seems like a higly speculative article, and factually wrong as well. Aside from the fact that Muller and Antonov are on the best of terms, I do not see what is the problem here if this were to come true. Because even if Muller has put the spyker facility up as collateral for the loan, that does NOT affect SAAB, because the Spyker plant is not the same as the corporate entity SAAB-Spyker. This plant is just another asset of the SAAB-Spyker NV, if it changes owners nothing happens to the ownership of any SAAB assets. So the headline… Read more »

Of course it is a example of bad reporting.

BengtP: Yes, it’s bad reporting – but it seems that you yourself are the culprit. The headline “Will SAAB get Russian owners in May?” doesn’t exist in the original. There it says “Saab’s owner may get a Russian owner”. Did you add the headline yourself, or has Teknikens Värld changed it after you did your translation?

Same headline as: “If BengtP can’t pay the loans on his house, the bank will take over it” More like, “if BenktP fails to pay back a loan, for which het offered his car as a security, the bank will take his house”. Most credible information since VM explains it himself in the video. As I understand it, Antonov would take possession of the Skyper sports car operation but not Saab – which leaves VM (personally) with increased ownership of the Saab operation (beside the GM convertibles and the Dubai interest)? This man is a fully fledged business wizard and has thought it all through. He’s very confident during the interview and I bet everything is developing as expected. The ‘still time left’ approach could be explained by the fact that he may make an effort to find external funding to repay Antonov… Read more »

Playing with future scenarios, it would be really cool if VM personally would own whole Saab. Maybe it’s possible if Antonov is statisfied with Spyker sports cars as payment. If Saab then turns profitable, GM could be repaid before their convertibles don’t turn into shares. One guy – one car company. No words on whether it’s plausible or not. As long as VM’s success equals Saab’s succes, I think we are in the best of positions to handle the future.

Victor and Vladimir are old business chums. Together they managed to find a way around GM’s ridiculous demands while still keeping Vladimir in the Saab-Spyker loop. I have the feeling that we haven’t heard the last of Vladimir as far as Saab-Spyker is concerned.

Turbo(lent) times! First good news…Swedish sales then bad news US sales then this? But is it bad or what? All know about VM:s loan and that he not have own money. To pay back he fix an other loan. He can´t get rid of any loan until the business is working properly, right! Maybee it would be great if A get some kind of ownership in the Russian market. Use him to develop that market and maybee that can boost that market. Is this possible or am I totally lost here?

Nice show…but SAAB still should have a presence in Detroit in January.

“Detroit has been a mainstay of the North American auto industry for more than a century and is the largest annual U.S. auto show.”

And SAAB are headquartered where? Outside of Detroit.

The quote is from here:

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-12-03/porsche-plans-spectacular-return-to-detroit-show-after-four-year-absence.html

In light of the recent US sales figures…the decision not to be in Detroit in January just doesn’t make ANY sense.

saabdude

And another quote from the article:

“Porsche’s return demonstrates the relevancy of the Detroit show for luxury manufacturers,” said Rebecca Lindland, an analyst at IHS Automotive in Lexington, Massachusetts. “They target a very specific audience with their cars and the U.S. market is incredibly important for Porsche.”

But apparently not SCNA, or SAAB in general. Nice. 🙁

I’m not sure that not being in Detroit is such a big deal… Saab has no big new announcements, the high cost and difficulty in being involved at the Cobo Center is well known, Detroit’s an economically distressed area right now, and Saab is already HQ’ed there, so I’m not sure it’s a big deal. Boston/New England is one of Saab’s biggest markets, the high end doesn’t seem to have been tremendously impacted in the region, and I’ll bet that being at the Boston show is a fraction of the cost of the Detroit show… Probably no big deal…

So in light of the quote above from Ms Lindland…you believe that SAAB are apparently not one of the “luxury manufacturers” who realize the Detroit is one of the most important shows to be at? Bascially it’s caled “face time”. If you don’t show up for “…the largest annual U.S. auto show.” It makes it doubly hard to increase those pathetic US sales numbers. Boston/New England may be one of SAAB’s largest markets…but nowhere near large enough to sustain it in the US. It’s a big country you know. Remember…”out of sight is out of mind”. And SAAB are “out… Read more »

Why do they keep on saying that the Cadillac CTS is also based on the Eps II platform ???

There are some other good news from Germany.
Saab has sold 100 Cars in Nov 2010 in Germany.
Not much, but it has been the best month this year and is an increase of 150% over the 40 cars sold in September or an increase of 78,5% over the 56 cars sold in November 2009.
YTD SAAB has sold 660 cars not as many as last year where Saab sold 1188 from January till November.

To add re the 9-4x I saw it at LA Auto show and it is a terrific looking crossover. I have seen 2 Caddy SRXs in West LA this past week and it is a very good looking vehicle and the SAAB 9-4x is even better looking, so should be a hit. I just checked the GM sales stats and there were over 4,000 SRXs sold in November about a 1/3 rd of Caddy’s total sales for the month
