Thursday Snippets

Stay cool, brother.

——

We’re buying that 9000 today. There are a few things to be done on it (expected with a 14 year old car) but it should be good.

If anything, it’ll be good to get out of being the family taxi. Kudos to all the other family taxi drivers out there for doing what you do.

——

A few things that have been mentioned quite a bit in comments, but need to come here to the front page….

——

Autoweek have a very positive short impression of the new 9-5. The first sentence will give you the gist of things:

This is hands-down the best Saab I’ve ever driven. For more than 25 years I’ve been a fan of Saabs, especially the wagon variants.

Good, if quick, reading.

Thanks to the multitude for the emails 🙂

——

Autoblog have a rather longer interview piece with Victor Muller and Jan-Ake Jonsson. I’m not sure when it was done as Autoblog weren’t at the LA Auto Show at all, but it’s all quite recent.

There’s nothing there that will surprise a regular Saab newshound, but it’s a good summary of the status quo, nonetheless.

——

Pierre over at the Charles River Saab blog has finally got some good seat time in a new Saab 9-5 V6 XWD Aero.

Those of you who regularly read his stuff know that Pierre doesn’t pull any punches, which makes his review all the more valuable reading.

——

Sometimes, even Saabs find it too cold to get out of bed 🙂

——

Some footage from the Roger Albert Clark rally.

Only one Saab, but one Saab nonetheless.

In regards to the Autoweek Review: I’m less sanguine (aka Faintest of Praise Damns 9-5). No different than Graeme Lambert’s June’10 3 star Autoexpress piece where he began “this is the best Saab ever made…”–before levelling Big Bertha — “but…” . I showed it to my Brother (the one who just leased an Audi Quattro) and asked what he thought: “Fail” And the reason why: “This car can compete with just about anything else in the midsize-luxury class for sale in the market today. It’s not a flat-out sports sedan in the mold of a BMW or even an Audi,… Read more »

Good luck with your new 9000 Swede 🙂 May it be better than the last even with the Velour seats. Always loved that funky velour. Seemed so comfy and luxious for a cloth interior, best cloth than any other cars offered at that time!

You’re getting the one with the fat five spoke rims? Good for you. Enjoy! Getting a new car day is always a fun day…

Swade, Don’t forget that Velour was THE luxury material of choice for car interiors for Communist Party leaders behind the Iron curtain. I read somewhere how the Volvos delivered to East German party leaders were outfitted with Velour for this very reason – was considered more luxurious than leather! If you would not mind, it would be great to post some pictures/impressions of the 9000 when it is finally in your ownership (as well as a description of the jobs that need to be done and how you went about arranging that the jobs be done). The 9000 is slowly… Read more »

Here’s another Thursday snippet: BAIC have just produced their first electric “Saab 9-5”, with the inspiring name C71 EV. Serial production starts in late 2011. They’re also planning to electrify their version of the 9-3.

I will continue to avidly follow third party media reviews of the Saab line, but my God….the remarks that follow the article in Autoweek are exasperating beyond words.I dare 1/10th of the diots that refer to the 9-5 as an overpriced Buick, and even in some cases just a “Chevy” to prove they have ever driven a Saab, much less owned one.I’d venture a guess that the vast majority of them have never even sat in a Saab or been in a Saab showroom!

Advice to you SAABLANCE, don’t waste oxygen reading comments on pages of general websites like Autoweek. The lack of intelligence and civility is staggering — just don’t waste your time.

This morning we had 29 degrees C below zero. The shiny new 9-5 have slept outside, but with an electric heater connected. The first 7 or 8 km she sounded rather unintrested (a bit early I guess) but when reaching her normal working temperature, all was ok. This TTiD engine is good, but sounds less attractive than the TTiD I had in my 08 SC 9-3 when the engines was cold. The carbehaved just as expected when cold. yesterday I checked the coolent flued just to be sure we could handle the winter ahead. We are ok to -36 C.… Read more »
