Help needed – Geneva accommodation
January 31, 2011 in Troll Stuff
It seems we may have only one of two attending the Geneva show. I had to scratch and argue to get my accreditation, which only came through yesterday after initially being denied. RedJ’s is not looking rosy at this point.
That said, with such a late confirmation of attendance, accommodation is going to be a massive hassle to find.
Just wondering – has anyone here got any local knowledge as to where to look. I’m assuming that as with every other year, Geneva itself is completely booked out. Consequently I might need to stay somewhere within commuting distance.
If anyone has a suitable lead, or suitable advice, please let me know via email (swade99-at-gmail-dot-com)
Cheers,
SW

UPDATE:
I’m not 100% sure about SW plans, but I think he/we needs accommodation for 3 nights, coming at the 28th of February and leaving on the 3rd of May.

Off-topic:
According to the Swedish car magazine Teknikens Värld, Saab will compensate for the low 2010 sales by letting Subaru build gas-driven cars in the Trollhättan factory.

Oh sorry, I noticed too late that this was old news on this site.
(I’ve read both the “SU Hi-Po Challenge – Entry #2″ and the “Saab 9-5 in Polish poll”-entry before and was sure that I had read all older entry, but now I see that those were updated today so there were other fresh unread news before them. =) )

You could always try and see if you could stay at CERN or the local university. It’s close to the city (well its built under it) and they have guest accommodation. You’ll probably have to find a Saab fan at the place to book it for you. Alternately, there’s cheap accommodation across the border in France (its where most of the postdocs live).

LHC is starting back up in the coming weeks, the CERN hotel and guest houses are probably filled up already.
Best bet is just across the border in France, although the accommodations aren’t fantastic (Formule 1 hotel anyone?), but who cares for a couple of nights. You’d need a car though.

I have stayed many times at La Réserve in Ferney-Voltaire (just across the border in France) and can recommend it. Not super cheap, but very clean. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchenette which helps save on the cost of eating out. There is a Champion supermarket just a couple of minutes walk away.

From 28th of February to the 3rd of May sounds very expensive

We’ll look if we found something near Geneva for You… unfortunately we live about 1h30, it’s too far away for You to come home, but we have a guest room for You.
But we’ll meet in Geneva for sure.

My cousin said the best way is to live a littlebit west into france.. few miles
first the price is french (cheaper) , second, it’s about 5 minutes drive to geneva downtown.

You migth consider to live in Lausanne, aprox 45 min away with train that goes several times per hour. And there is a Olympic museum there as well.
By the way, the best place to look for hotel is via the local touristinfo:

Try looking for accomodations in the French side. There are quite a few charming lodges scattered around within 30 minutes from Geneve. Les Rousse is a little further up (1+ hr, I guess) which should have hotel rooms available at this time of the year. Cheers!

Should not be to difficult.
I found more than 16 available hotels using the location St-Claude (just over the border in France) on the site of viamichelin
