Saab 900 exhaust videos – love that sound!

One of the things I miss most about my old 1985 Saab 900 Aero is the sound. It sounded like a beast.

The car had a 3-inch exhaust system that used to scrape a little on our driveway as I backed in. That was a problem, but there’s no way in the world that I would have changed that exhaust because it provided the ultimate soundtrack.

Fooling around on YouTube earlier today, I came upon a few Saab 900 videos and it occurred to me that there are people out there who are relatively new to Saab, and may not have experienced the aural phenomenon that is the original Saab 900. For mine, it’s about as close to a V8 sound as you can get with just four cylinders (yet another example of Saab’s rightsizing 🙂 ).

Enjoy – and if you feel so inclined, go out and find one to preserve.

The music cuts just in time on this one….

Well, as good as it sounds, it’s no 409 cubic inches of gas guzzling Detroit iron.

The top clip, that SPG sounds very good though. I can get into SPG, maybe even restore a older Saab…..but the 409 will always be my favorite tune.

reminded me of this billboard spotted in Detroit a few years back, now they sell a poster of it.

The first one sounds like my car, so that’s cool. I had an 8V Turbo for a few weeks, and that thing sounded like it was about to eat a baby…until the exhaust broke in half.

My 9-3 has the factory sport exhaust aft of the cat, and stock in front of it. It sounds pretty cool.

Here is a video of my NG900 in October. It is my favorite sounding car (outside of supercars) I have ever heard. Good thing I own it and I can listen to it whenever I want! 🙂

The first video sounds a bit like my 900 T16S. I have 2.5″ cat back Simons and I´m very, very satisfied with the sound. Though there´s nothing wrong with original sound either. But Simons system gives a bit more bass and depth to it. To my ear that convertible sounds a bit too much. Especially being an open top car. Man, I miss driving my c900… Btw, I need to replace the pipe between downpipe (the curve) and cat, any suggestions? I may even try to make my own version. We´ll see. Anyway, c900 turbo sounds really cool. Especially those… Read more »

The red convertible is really moving! Do you have decibel regulations in US for cars?

I really liked the cars where you could still hear the turbo-whistle, like the 99, 900 and 9000 turbos. Unfortunately this aircraft-like sound was gone in more recent models.
Maybe Saab should bring back that typical ‘turbo-sound’ in future models…?

Hear for example this RX7 turbo at 0:15: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPSG8hyrjoU
Sounds great !

Love IT! My 93 900 Turbo vert broke down on the way to work (APC) – fixed it on the side of the road in the rain – and STILL HAD to sit and listen to these videos when I got in the office!

I was wondering about the Peugeot for a couple seconds until he pulled away.

In any event, the 900 did/does have a very unique sound.

The sounds of these videos are the reason why my droptop has to be a Turbo. I simply love the exhaust sounds of the OG900 Turbo’s. And when it’s a convertible you can enjoy the sounds even better. I can’t wait for the summer…!!! Only about 4 months to go 🙂

JH,

This may be my favorite Saab sound video on youtube. And I think I have heard them all! It sounds like the car is going SO FAST but when it comes around a corner, it really isn’t going fast at all! I love it!

It’s nice to see / hear that other folks appreciate the sounds of Saabs as we do.

I loved the sound of my now sold 94 900 Turbo with sport exhaust. That was the meanest sounding of all of our Saabs.

But there is something really unique and sweet sounding to my ears of our 93 900 Turbo and 78 99 Turbo.

The 93 900 Turbos have such a distinctive sound.

Thanks for finding and sharing these Swade!
