Monday Snippets – Valentines edition

It’s been a public holiday here in Hobart and with the beautiful conditions we’ve had today, I hope you’ll forgive me for having made the most of it and enjoying they day. The Wooden Boat Festival was fantastic.

——

It’s also Valentines Day, an occasion we’ve never covered from a Saaby perspective.

Do you have any Valentines Day Saab stories that are fit for sharing? Did you drive off from your wedding with cans a-clunking from your Saab? Shared a memorable romantic drive? Meet your partner at a Saaby event? Have you ever given/received any Saaby gifts for Valentines day and if so, what sort of punishment did you receive?

It doesn’t have to have happened on V-day, any slightly romantic Saaby story will do.

Send in your stories (photos welcome) and I’ll share them all together later in the week. They can be inspiration for next year πŸ™‚

Congratulations to Nicola on picking up his new Saab 9-5 2.0T Aero. It’s his fifth Saab and the tenth new one in his family since 1982!

10 points to the film buff who can tell me the name of the road the photos were taken on, and the 1960s film it’s famous for (some crazy driving!).

——

Can you imagine a top-ten list where a Saab finishes above a Ford Mustang, a Mitsubishi Evo, a Ferrari F40 and a Bugatti Veyron?

Popular Mechanics has paid tribute to some of the pioneering cars of the turbocharging era. The Saab 99 Turbo is second, with only the Porsche 911 Turbo before it.

It’s a fantastic list and well worth reading.

Some fact on Superbowl advertising……

Car ads were four of the top 10 most watched ads during the Superbowl.

Car ads were five of the top 10 most likes ads shown during the Superbowl.

But sadly….

Car ads were zero of the top 10 ads from the Superbowl with the best recall.

And finally, spotted by Jos on Twitter……

Or do they have the same possibility as in Sweden? To have a personalized plate?
I believe we can have a plate with 8 characters in Sweden at the cost of 8000 SEK.

I just figured it was a US spec car with the orange turn signals, but not sure.

“The Italian Job”?

Looks a bit like the pass down into monaco-either September 3rd Avenue or Prince Ranier Avenue.

Nice car!

I have a sort of love “thing” with SAAB. When I met Johanna, my girlfriend, for the first time, I drove to her home to pick her up in my car (9-3 Viggen), she jumped in my car and said hi and off we went. After about 10 sec. she exclaimed “this is a very nice car” and about 8-9 months later she was the owner of the same type although black and with a sunroof =)

SAAB has always been a close part of our family for the past 7 years and it will remain that way!

Just arrived home from the 2011 Saab Arctic Adventure, despite earlier indications that my wife wouldn’t be going, she did and loved every minute of it, it was incredible, neither of us wanted to return home.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=temOwBoCeb8

The SAAB staff were a credit to the company (morning girls), if you’ll excuse my Yorkshire and the drivers Swedish accent you’ll hear us discuss the merits of the 9-3X v 9-5 Aero when driven on 80cm of frozen ice on an Arctic river.

More videos to come…………….and no more reindeer to eat.

Good to hear that your missus decided to join you! πŸ™‚

I do not have sound here at work. Could you (or someone else) recap the key differences between the 9-3X and the 9-5?

When asked if the 9-3 or the 9-5 handles best, the driver just answers that the 9-5 is a big car. And of course that makes a difference, the track was kind of twisty. πŸ™‚

To Hatch-lovers on Valentines:
The news Merc C-Class CoupΓ© is gonna be a Hatch :-O

I think Merc should hatch their own ideas…

Red J

The model it replaces (CLC I think) was also a hatch, so no surprise here.

Correct, but the CLC was a “VW Golf type” of hatch (compact), and the new C-Class CoupΓ© will be as long as the sedan. More of a 99/900/OG9-3 type of hatch, I belive you could say. This is provided that the info I’ve got is correct.

Good news actually! “Non-compact Hatchbacks” are in fashion again πŸ™‚

I’ve checked the official pictures at automotorsport.se, and it does not look like a hatch, it looks like a 2-door sedan.

Correct again, but it is not a compact hatch. It is a 2 door long hatch that tries to look like a sedan πŸ˜‰

Many, many years ago when wife Cameron and I got married, we were driven away in the Best Man’s / Maid of Honor’s then almost new ’86 900 S. I do not know if any photographic proof exists of the escape.

Grrr,

I was thinking of calling my buddy who works at Camp Darby on that picture. He would have gotten it right away for sure! Anyone know what the movie was?

There’s one part of that old Saab 95 (original) commercial from the 60s where two people get in the back to use it as a bed. My only fun Valentine’s Day story involves using the back of the hatch as such πŸ˜› I know, I know, I should have tinted my windows first.

That poor 9-3 frozen solid. What happens to a car when that happens? Does it warp some of the metal panels or will it be okay when it thaws?

I think winter hit the poor 9-3!
