Sat in a UK dealer now availing myself of an offer. I have to take my hat off to the salesman trying to sell a new car to an old guy who’s just told them he’s been a Saab owner for 37yrs. He’s playing a canny game to get the deal he wants, the dealers squirming and has just thrown in 3 yrs free servicing and he got the 2.5k anniversary trade in deal. Oh car dealers why does it have to be like this in 2011 ?

Hi. As I stated in another comment yesterday, I was contacted by SAAB and invited to the ‘Independence Weekend’ event. I went along to my dealer today at the appointed time and was quite frankly disappointed. After kicking around for a few minutes a sales guy finally asked if he could help me. I said that I had been invited by SAAB to attend the event and that this was my appointed time. Well, I may as well said it in Italian as it seemed to make no impression on him at all. Today I thought I would take up Saab GBs offer of a replacment bonnet badge on my MY2001 Saab 9-3SE. On calling to verify if stock was available, I was told that they were not taking part in the scheme!. Very disappointing to say the least

My e-mail did state “please drop in any time.”.

I am going to go and dip my toe and test the water this weekend. I would rather hang on for the 9-5 wagon and would ideally like to see it in the metal but if there is a good enough deal I could be tempted into a saloon. It will be interesting to see whether this is really an additional £2500 on the trade in or a simple re-hash of the cost to change. I would also consider the independence vert but I suspect the dealers wont be doing any deals on those… I will support the brand but… Read more »

Sorry Craig, Virginia Water is a bit of a trek from Manchester…

Although, I did walk into a dealership today, mooched around for 10 minutes and there wasn’t a salesperson to be seen. Maybe Independence Day is about leaving the customer on his own? Needless to say I didn’t buy a car, because I couldn’t!
