Thursday Night Snippets – Hi-Po edition

This is slightly embarrassing for me as I prefer the public stuff to be about Saab and about you and your Saabs, but I can’t not post these after a few mates went to the trouble of shooting them and sending them in.

These two blokes are good mates of mine and regulars here at SU. One I’ve met in person and the other I’ll definitely buy dinner for next time I’m in Germany.

From deep in the heart of BMW country, this is Till72 and Olaf95 having their own little SaveSU Convoy 🙂

The two black cars belong to the Till72 family and the white 9-5 belongs to Olaf.

Incidentally, those two are off to the Saab Arctic Adventure up in northern Sweden this weekend. I’m expecting Olaf’s photographic work to be outstanding and I know Till’s going to have some fun to report.

The ex-GM Heritage Collection Saab 9-3 Viggen for sale on Ebay is now up to $18,600 though the reserve is still to be reached.

Whoa!

“Hey, Fatboy!”

Pic from Autoforum, via Facebook.

And for those thinking I’m being a little sizeist there, zip it. I’m as big as any of you.

——

Speaking of the Teutonic competition, this article from Bloomberg does a good job of spelling out just how much demand there is for larger luxury vehicles.

Audi AG buyers must wait an average of three to four months for cars like the $52,700 A6 sedan as the company runs factories at full steam in an effort to keep pace with record demand, sales chief Peter Schwarzenbauer said.

“If sales continue to grow like this, it’ll be difficult to say how long it could take to reduce waiting times,” Schwarzenbauer said yesterday in a phone interview from Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany. “We’re working at full capacity at our plants and may add extra shifts on Saturdays.”

Many of might consider the 9-5 to be too big, but there’s definitely a big market for cars like this when the manufacturer gets the formula right.

Thanks to Curvin for the tip!

Norwegian magazine prognosticates on the possibility of a smaller Saab…..

Hit that link to see just how much like a Mini they think this car will be.

I say “No”

Thanks Bjarte!

And finally, for all you hardcore Hi-Po Saab advocates, here’s your Hi-Po Saab – and it’s even dragracing sportscars and winning!!

Off to it!

h/t to Andy Rupert for finding that one.

@ Till and Olaf… cool pic…. kind of sinister looking as if you two were up to no good… a remix of the Chrysler Super Bowl commercial…. ” This is our town… and these are our Saabs… enter if you dare”

Minisaab= If it looks like that = gag

The Viggen going to such a price…. pretty cool….I just hope it goes to the right kind of owner…

Drag racing a 9-7x (legally) is kinda cool…

The bid for the Viggen now stands at 21,250, reserve still not met. At that price I’m pretty certain it will go someone who is really interested in it as a collectors item, not to trash it. Three days left.

Yeah, that Saabini is as ugly as it can get. Someone mentioned it last week I think, instead from taking its design cues from Mini, a small Saab should try to incorporate more of the Saab Air.

Here’s a Google Translate of the Norwegian article… Saab against Mini & Co. Saab was saved at the last moment, and we are now beginning to sense a part of the new strategy. By Knut Moberg Wednesday, 09/02/1911 06:00 Most car enthusiasts were happy that the Saab brand managed to survive, but many are still worried that it will be the hardest team to keep it going long enough for a new and modern model number will be in place. 9-5 is not enough The all new Saab 9-5 were able to get out on the market and has received… Read more »

Off-course Saab can and will not make this Mini-alike roof (I hope 🙂 )… – but a Roof with a stressed C-pillar and “hockey-stick”…
Something close to the 9-X BH – in my opinion – would be something to go for… 🙂 (But will not be, I´m pretty sure..)

It looks exactly the same as the one I posted a few days ago.

Hehe… I like it a lot. And it’s so funny to see a cab do that. And the comments by the BMW driver: “Nu är jag sur” (Now I’m moody/a bit angry). “De säger det ska vara svenskt” (They say it should be Swedish..”

Haha.. just love it!

Speaking of Mini (or 1 series) rivals (aren’t they all looking the same?)… What our old friend Adrian Hallmark has been up to at his latest gig: Comments suggest some photoshopping of course. Also: Just caught a recent repeat of TopGear featuring Volvo C30 Polestar 400 HP/ 4WD… granted, not for general sale…and apparently Volvo management doesn’t have the stomach to see it through to production. Never thought I’d draw inspiration from an OVLOV but THAT is exactly what Saab should be doing with the outgoing 9-3. Might create a little excitement while we clear our throats for two years.… Read more »

NTP,
Jaguar is still searching a platform for their 3-series hunter. I don’t think they will do a 1-series hunter before.

Rumours said that Jaguar wanted to use the BMW platform for their 3-series hunter, but I think that the guys in Munich are not that stupid. 😉
