Tomorrow will be an important day for Saab, not only because of the anniversary, which is already quite important on its own, but because Saab will show what they have been able to do in the first year of independence.
As Saab said in its Paris Auto show invitation:
Discover the power of independence
The international Saab media sites are slowly moving away from the GM IT structure. While countries like Sweden, Germany or Italy still have their media sites in the media.gm.com domain, Australia, Canada English, France, UK and USA have already moved to the new Saab media IT structure and look&feel.
To visit those sites simply go to http://media.saab.com and choose a country from the drop down menu.
(Yes, I know is difficult to differentiate the different national sites. I’ve already talk to the responsible person, and this will be addressed)

Milano Fashion Week Design from Feb 23. till Feb 27.:
Saab will be an event contributor and some cars will be exposed at the via Silvio Pellico. Also on this street of Milan you can find the Swedish-Italian chamber of commerce.
I think a Saab feels good being surrounded by the Cathedral in Milan or the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuelle.
Maybe JC will spend a weekend in Milan.

South Texas is getting a Saab dealer.
Barrett Motor Cars in San Antonio (Texas) will sell Saab cars in the near future. The article at bizjournals.com says that Saab of San Antonio will be located at Barrett’s dealership in Northwest San Antonio at Interstate 10 and Loop 1604.
Barrett Motor Cars plan to build a showromm for Saab, which should be ready in about six months.
Barrett Motor Cars sells and services Jaguar, Ferrari, Maserati and Fisker. Now Saab will be added to this list.

If one of our Spanish readers want to spend some days in northern Sweden at the Saab Ice Experience, Saab Spain is searching for the Saab nut of the year. He has to demonstrate that he feels the values of the brand more intensely than others.
The winner will spend 3 days in northern Sweden at the Saab Ice experience, which seems to be fun and a unique experience.

I think we must say sorry to Spyker.
The production of the great looking Spyker C8 Aileron will start just after the Geneva Auto show. GTspirit.com says that because Spyker moved its production facilities from Zeewolde, the Netherlands, to Coventry, UK and because of the Saab takeover, the production of the Aileron had been postponed.

Volvo will not only present its V60 PHEV at the Geneva Auto show, but also the S60/V60 DRIVe version.
For a car the size of the 9-3 with a 115hp 1.6l Diesel engine, 119g CO2 is quite a lot, I think. I really do prefer a 160hp 9-3 SC Griffin with also 119g/km CO2.

About the 1.6 l Volvo DriveI can tell you about my experience from a rental C30 with this engine: it’s enough to move the car forward, but not more. I have hard times to imagine how this engine could work in a heavier V60 or S80. I have not driven the 9-3 with any TTiD engine but as a comparison to the C30 1.6 Drive, the 9-5 160 hp TiD is a rocket.

OddJob,
I own this engine but with a French envelope. I must admit, that the engine is enough, but that’s all. On the defence of Volvo I must admit that I have no low-CO2 gearbox, as the planet wasn’t that CO2 crazy 5 years ago.

Speaking of independence…
I received a postcard mailing today from SAAB direct marketing center to “treat my SAAB to a spa day”. A $50.00 credit toward any part, service or accessory plus a car wash and multipoint inspection…and “Test drive our pride and joy while we work on yours” showing a new 9-5 below the text line.
Sounds like a good advertising blitz to registered owners (the fine print indicates they must be targeting owners of 2001-2007 SAABS)- so you get them in the door from maintenance and “accelerate” their urge to trade for a new model
And driving to work in the snow and slush covered roads today- I was thining about how I need a new set of wipers!

Volvo Drive car is a joke. Needs an additive (1.6D 2.0D Citroen/Peugeot engines with aDPF ) to qualify as a green car. This small special tank with additive has to be refilled by the shop and will cost money. Myself drove a s40Drive for about 300km and it was hideous when it comes to engine character, design and overall impression.
