Finally spring…
March 25, 2011 in Uncategorized
I just got this in the mailbox, it’s a nation-wide advertisement to all SAAB owners stating “finally spring”. A number of items are on sale =)
What I liked most is that they have included the 9-5 engine upgrades (150hp-192hp) on year-models from 1998-2000 as well as the 150hp-185hp for year-models 2001-2008. These older engine upgrades are not available from Hirsch in Sweden.

How ironic… it snowed in Missouri, USA this morning :/

For Sweden and at least here in Finland those engine upgrades were already part of the Classic 9-5 accessory program that’s running. Also those other items mentioned on that site are part of that. There’s some other awesome discounts on those items also that you shouldn’t miss if you’ve got one of those cars. I suppose the same campaign will happen in other EU-markets as well.

Does anyone have any info about cars that were sold in year 2000 with that kit already installed? I want to know if that upgrade is shown via VIN check or not. I bought a MY2000 that was originally sold in Italy and it’s supposed to have that upgrade installed but I didn’t find any certain way to check that. VIN check shows 150hp, only the old registration papers mention 192hp.

The engine and VIN is the same, what you can do is to let your local dealer check your engine with a Tech2 computer and they can verify the upgrade…

Interesting, my MY99 car was originally sold in Italy as well, when I registered it in Czech Republic, it is listed as having 141kw while the VIN code shows 110kw (a 9-5 Estate SE 2.0t). The most probable option is that the italian papers had the power mentioned in hp (141hp maybe?) and the Czech Automobile Register interpreted the value as being kw ? I forgot to check that when I registered the car about one year and half ago, however the paper was taken by the register when they gave me Czech registration ID…
The car is pretty fast in my opinion, and suffices, even exceeds my speed and power needs. That’s one hell of a beast (well, for a 2.0t!) and I’ve always been troubled by this discordance.
Cheers if anyone has an answer to this!

Italy did have both options available back then… 110kw (150hp) and 141kw (192hp). But as TimR said and what you and I get from the VIN check, the difference is not shown there as this is an after factory upgrade (still done by Saab).
The main concern – here in Slovenia when you land above 130kw, you’re in the league with the big ones. The registration costs me 300-400€ more (for an old car) than the 110kw version.

Peter, I know what you mean, I’m in the big league too with insurance costs. Registration was more expensive as well, but that’s less of a problem. So do I get it that the only way to check is to have a professional Saab dealer check if the chip was tuned by Saab? Do I also get it that the car was originally produced as a 110kw model (as shows the VIN), then upgraded to 141kw and sold as such?
my VIN definitely indicates 110kw model
Thanks and sorry for the spam!

Got the same mailing from Saab Germany (but with German text of course!) The offer I found interesting was the Emblem replacement free of charge!
A-RO 95 said on March 26, 2011
Ooops, no it is a differnet mailing! but also offering special deals on Hrsch upgrades as well as other accessories and as I mentioned free replacement of Saab emblems.

the Emblem replacement free of charge is only available with the spring check for 19,90 €. However the upgrade-kits are not available in germany. Only hirschupgrades are offered for models from 2003-2007 get a 50% discount. 2008 – 2011 get 30%.
