Saab ads recently spotted
March 9, 2011 in Saabology
I received a few emails from Saab fans pointing out some Saab advertising seen on the streets over the last week.
I actually had a sighting myself last week, but didn’t have my camera handy. So if anyone’s driving to Landvetter airport in the next few days, a photo of the Independence Edition convertible billboard would be welcome
——
These two billboards were spotted by ‘Mean Sabien’ on a recent early spring break trip to NYC from his home in Montreal. One was seen on the road on the way there, the other just after taking in a show in Broadway.
Both have been seen before on SU, but in either different locations (in LA) or in different formats (i.e. magazine ad)
——
This ad was spotted yesterday by ‘WashAero’ not far from the diplomatic community in Washington DC. It’s a bus stop ad, and very clever.
——
Thanks for sending them in, folks.

I was in LA last weekend and saw the “Left/right” ad near LAX airport and on the 10 freeway across from the LA Times building, so some really prominent places that are often socked in with traffic. I believe the same billboard is in Boston in the North End near Faneuil Hall.

I saw the “left lane/right brain” billboard along Interstate 80 in the southwest Chicago suburbs (Joliet/Tinley Park area) over the weekend. A nice sight!

I’ve seen another Saab ad in the D.C. Metro. The tagline is:
“For Performance Liberals
and Fuel Conservatives”

^ Better.
‘The Nicht German’ ad is so ridiculous and juvenile…so devoid of any cleverness that it embarrasses me everytime I see it . And as the (hundreds of ) thousands of people who have bought M-B, Audi, etc would say: ‘So what’? In lieu of Saab , they certainly aren’t running out buy Volvos.

I agree. And why would you not buy a car that is German? We all know they are great car builders… What is the point really? :-/

I noticed a huge billboard on i-84 in Hartford, CT.
Great location. I don’t drive there too often, but this ad could not be missed.

I don’t know if this is the same sign, but I saw the left/right billboard in NYC near LaGuardia airport. Very prominent position near a busy highway. I was focused on navigating an unfamiliar car along an unfamiliar route during the evening rush and still noticed it.

Very clever bus stop ad. I’ll have to keep an eye out now for ads when I travel on my spring break. Should be interesting to see if any show up.

Great to see these ads. There is one in Boston off 93 that I was happy to see. Only problem is the light grey SAAB in the lower right is too hard to see at highway speeds. Consider doubling the font size on SAAB. The ad should call out to people that don’t already know the car from the photo. Maybe just a billboard that just the word SAAB on it would remind people we are still here and better.

You’re exactly right. The first time I drove by that ad there was no traffic and I only caught a glimpse, and I wasn’t sure if it was a Saab or Audi A8. The next morning traffic was normal (stopped) and I got a good look. Yes, the gray was so light, and the text so small that only a Saab-o-phile would have noted it was a Saab ad. I brought this to the attention of SCNA during a Vision Team meeting, including pictures (they had not seen this billboard themselves), and they said they were going to pass it on to marketing. It was completely bone-headed to have gone to the trouble and expense to make such an ad and then have company name almost invisible. The missteps have to stop.

The Left Lane billboards have been popping up around Chicago in the last week or two. I now see 2 on my way home every night.

The top billboard is also on I-95 in Philadelphia. Good stuff.

No picture, but I saw a nice big billboard advertising the “Novy Saab 9-5″ in Bratislava, Slovakia, on Monday, March 7. It was a welcome surprise.

Small nitpik, but “Saab” lettering in grey cannot be seen in a lot of conditions from a hundred metres.

There’s at least three of the left/right billboards on I-95 North from Miami. One especially in good spot in Delray Beach. But for sure the Saab text should be a bit bigger and also in black.
It was great flying in to Miami the other week and while driving up north with a friend see first tail lights of beautiful new 9-5 and then after a while see one of these billboards. I thought I’d miss too much my own new 9-5 while being in the states (you know with all those American cars around), but that reminded of home already. Whilst driving local rental car was a suffer…

Did you get any photos of the billboards?
