Back to the future with Lars Carlström

April 13, 2011 in Editorial

A couple of weeks ago I got in contact with Lars Carlstöm to see if he would be willing to answer some questions from me and the SaabsUnited team of writers. I had never spoken to Lars before, but was welcomed almost like an old friend. Really, he is that friendly!

Lars is as many of you will know a partner to Mr Vladimir Antonov, the VP of Conversgroup Holding Ltd., but he’s also a very friendly guy.

I was hoping for answers to questions I had prepared in a word document, but being the talkative and passionate man that Lars is, he instead returned a story of his journey though one of the most amazing business deals ever made, or at least so in the Automotive sector, GM’s sale of Saab Automobile AB.

I got answers to my questions, only in a different and hearty way.

And no– I’m not going to comment much on what Lars has to say in this article. What you read comes from Lars himself and I found that’s the best way to share his thoughts.

Expressen: Opinion = Truth!?

April 13, 2011 in Uncategorized

There has been an article written by Mr Ulf Nilsson published by the evening paper Expressen on the 12th of april. Ulf used to drive a SAAB 9000 but no more SAAB for him, which is pretty obvious in his writing. Ulf Nilsson is an established writer for Expressen and has been so for many years. So with many years of experience he should know the basic things of journalism that even I know as an amateur, that you only publish facts or opinions that you can back up with facts… well apparently not…

In this article Ulf starts to point out: “you can not mention the word quality and Saab on the same day, hardly the same month, said expressens car expert Håkan Matson” Ulf agrees fully and proudly tells us that he will soon pick up his second BMW. He also claims in his article that many people in Sweden feels the same way and uses last years sales figures as a reference to his opinion.

An answer might come today…

April 13, 2011 in Uncategorized

Today has been a day of silence, but according to Swedish Radio P4, Lars Carlström, who is representing the Vlandimir Antonov, claimed an answer about financing could arrive later today!

On other news a swedish left-wing politician born and raised in Trollhättan, who’s parents work at SAAB are starting to raise serious questions about the Government’s work with the SAAB issue.

“It was because of Saab” – It was because of love that we drive a Saab

April 13, 2011 in Saabology

A weekly feature we would like to call
“It was because of Saab”
.

A story about how you met your partner, was it because of Saab? or met a life long friend, or anything that you can think off that may come within the title.

If you have a story you would like to tell, please email it to the crew for publication. Send a few pictures along if you have them and we will  publish it so the whole of SaabsUnited can have a read.

Here is this weeks story told in Martins own words.

Here’s a story that does not go “It was because of Saab”, but the other way round:

It was because of love (that we drive a Saab)…

Non-SAAB: Big vs Small

April 13, 2011 in Uncategorized

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with SAAB but since I am a pilot, I just had to share this one with you… This time its an Airbus A380 from AirFrance that is taxiing on JFK last monday. A CRJ100 had been pushed back a bit too far and this is what happened…

It’s a good example of what could happen when the ones in control do not have control… The pilots in the CRJ depend 100% on the ground crew to push them back to a certain point. In this case they had pushed them a bit too far and thus were in the way of the A380 that came driving down the yellow taxi-way. If the CRJ had been where it was supposed to be this would never have happened. The A380′s wing would have cleared the CRJ by at least 5 meters.

Muller will not give up!

April 12, 2011 in Editorial, News

In an article today at DI the ex government representative during the SAAB sale Jöran Hägglund gave his view on the current events:

Victor Muller’s persistence suggests that Saab will sort out the crisis. This is the belief of Joran Hagglund who was one of the key players in Saab’s last crisis. “My experience is that Muller does not leave until he has solved it,” he says.
It is just over a year since the negotiation of Spyker Saab purchase was completed. At the time, Joran Hagglund was the State Secretary at the Ministry of Industry and worked closely with Maud Olofsson. He was also appointed as the government’s negotiator in the Saab “deal.” Today, Joran Hagglund works at Vattenfall and follows the current saga of Saab at a distance. When di.se ask him to speculate on Saab’s chances of resolving the current crisis, he says:

“I can only see it from the outside, but my experience is that Muller won’t give up until he has solved the situation, so I would think that will be the case this time as well.”

Request: We need your help!

April 12, 2011 in Editorial

Hello everybody! We want/need your help with something rather easy. Well, not so easy for us at SU, but through your help it will be easy.

What we want is that all of you out there go to your local dealer and ask them about order status, pre-bookings, requests and so on on all available models, and upcoming models, as the 9-5 SC and 9-4x. Please report back through an e-mail to us (saabsunitedcrew ( a ) gmail.com) so we will handle the numbers from dealers so no dealers are named (if that is a problem for some) or counted twice.

Update April 13th: Well, dear SU, I noticed some of you reacted negative to this, and some positive. As I’ve written in several comments here now: My intention about this was to try to gather some sort of information about if people are doing pre-orders or not on new models. And if dealers are getting pre-orders on the 9-5 SC or the 9-4x I thought that could information that also has to get out there in the open. This is not about hanging out specific dealers or markets, but trying to see how the market is reacting. Some have said there has been a decline in potential customers due to the present situation. At the same time some has reported that customers has done pre-orders. So I thought it would be interesting to highlight that side of the story as well.

We all know it’s about selling cars that’s the important thing for Saab’s survival.

Saab 9-5 SC rear hatch for NA-market

April 11, 2011 in News

The rear hatch on the 9-5 SC for the North American market

Saab Cars has posted this photo on their Facebook-page. We guess it’s showing the rear hatch on the 9-5 SC for the North American market. As we discussed here at SU earlier in comments on other posts Saab has two different types of hatches for the 9-5 SC.

Thanks to Knape for the tip!

Rear hatch on the 9-5 SC for the Swedish market

The second photo shows the rear hatch from Saabs media-site for Sweden. You can clearly see the difference on the lower end of the hatch, where the one for the Swedish market follows the shape of the end of the car towards the bumper, while on the first photo the hatch disconnects in the lines.

Which one do you like the most?

Workers to return on thursday

April 11, 2011 in Uncategorized

As you guys may have heard the workers at Saab have been sent home to enjoy the nice weather for two days and are to report back on thursday morning. A group of workers have stayed at Saab to complete unfinished cars, at least 250 cars were completed last friday when new parts arrived from suppliers that had been payed. These cars have now left the factory and are on their way to their happy new owners. Today I watched as truck after truck arrived every 10-20 min delivering parts to Saab, lots of smaller cars from DHL kept rolling in every now and then. During a short period of time today there were 3 lorries carrying new cars to the dealers that left the factory, some of them were 9-5 sedans bound for the US market. There is a lot of activity going on at and around the factory.

I also got to see a brand new beautiful Jet-Black 9-5 SportsCombi… me want! :D

Most dealers are reporting no delays in the deliveries of cars to their customers which is truly great news!
