What should the color be called?

April 30, 2011 in Uncategorized

A few weeks ago we posted a SaabsUnited Exclusive on a test color Saab is currently trying out. Now comes the big question, what name would you put on this color?

  1. Well what about Ciel Blue or Azure Blue? Just a thought

  2. sky blue or ocean blue?

  3. It’s the colour you can often see in the seas and sky around the Orkney Islands in summer, so I’d call it “Brodgar Blue” after the mystical 4,000 year old “Ring of Brodgar”.

  4. Cote D’azur or Ningaloo Blue [plus alll models should have retained the door handles as these details are true Saab].

  5. I`d like a nordic connection. How about Archipelago Blue or Baltic Blue.

  6. Ice Blue…

    Cheers!

  7. Blue Curaçao, it has some Dutch relationship.

  8. Fantastic blue is a Good name!

  9. It seems exactly the same of the 9-3 Cab 20th Anniversary.. year 2006… did they find some paint cans in a corner in the warehouse…?? :-D

  10. my firts thoughts were sky_blue or air_blue now my favourite is saphire blue

  11. Easy peasy this is Viggen-blue off course

  12. How about Väner Blue? After lake Vänern, Swedens largest lake (third largest in Europe) which is only a stone’s throw from Trollhättan.

  13. Lets be bold and brave……Trollhattan Blue? I strongly agree we should keep links to Sweden in some way.

  14. What about matte black 9-5 we saw on pictures from Trollhattan? Can i custom order it instead of Jet black?

  15. steel blue

I would say Aqua Blue Metallic or Azure Blue Metallic. I really like this color! :D

  17. Galactic Blue, I’d say.

  18. Glacier blue

  19. Griffin Blue? Or maybe Troll Blue?

  20. Super Awesome Amazing Blue (S.A.A.B.) :)

    Blue Flame

    1. Because that’s the hottest part of fire (or maybe white it, but whatever) :)
    2. Blue Flame was a rocket-powered vehicle that achieved the world land speed record on Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in October 1970.

  22. What about Fjordblue

  23. I agree that a Swedish or Scandinavian name would be good. I’m however not sure if it’s a good idea to name it after the Swedish lake Vänern or call it Göta Blue with reference to sourthern part of Sweden, Götaland. Ä or Ö doesn’t work very well outside northern Europe.

I saw a picture of King Carl XVI Gustaf on dn.se (he turns 65 today) and realized that the colour is similar to the colour of the Swedish Royal Order of the Seraphim (Swedish: Serafimerorden), so perhaps Seraphim Blue? See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Order_of_the_Seraphim.

Another suggestion could be Sky Blue. Sky means the same in Swedish as in English, but is pronouced in another way and “himmel” is the much more commonly used word for sky.

    • I disagree. The use of the letter Ä just adds a touch of exoticism, a sence that this is an unashamedly Swedish car company. English-speakers can just ignore the dots and pronounce it like an A, it is close enough.

Also, as far as I can tell, Vänern is actually the name for the lake in the English-speaking world as well. At least that’s what it’s called in the English Wikipedia.

  24. We have had this colour in the uk and it’s called Cerulean Blue!

That Blue isn’t the “torquoise blue”?

    So, TORQUOISE BLUE

    • 63mk said on May 1, 2011

No it is not turquoise blue. It is quite different. It is slightly greenish blue.
But it would be nice to have turquoise SAAB convertible:)

  26. Cerulean Blue

  27. Freedom blue

  28. +1 for Griffin Blue.

    Or . . . Super Blue . . . Antonov Blue . . . Carlsson Blue . . . Swade Blue, or perhaps . . .

    SU Blue? :)

  29. Isn’t it obvious?
    It’s GM-blue of course!!

    Naaaah, just kidding! :P

  30. Name it “Independent blue”!!!

  31. What about: Swedish Blue metallic.??
Think about the blue colour in the Sweish Flag.

  32. Independent Blue is a good one, I think. :-)
What a about “Torneo Blue” or “Tornio Blue”.

Torneå or Torne älv is the name of the river from which the ice is taken for the Jukkasjärvi Ice Hotel.
The name sounds a bit Italian too, at least to me. ;-)

  33. How about Oriental Blue? Looks like Greek Blue

  34. How about names that are a little bit tongue-in-cheek, like some of the niche cosmetics companies – shows that SAAB has a sense of humor about its products, but still gives a feel/meaning to the color name, to wit:

    “It’s Morning Again Blue”

  35. Smurf Blue. With the white top it looks like a smurf.

  36. Midsummer is the most celebrated day (and night) in Sweden, and this color shouldn’t be too far off the color of the midnight sky in southern Sweden. According to tradition, a very magic night!

So… while Midsummer Blue sounds a little bit dull…
Let´s just drop the Blue and throw in the magic.

Midsummer Nite / Midsummer Nite Metallic!

  37. This is a no-brainer, it should be called Swedish blue since it looks like the blue color in our flag. You must look at a real flag up in the air to see the real color not the kind of blue that children uses to draw the flag :)

Look at a picture of the flag here

  38. It’s a SAAB, It’s blue and it’s good at passing other cars

    Blue Bayou

  39. A long name: The Coolest Blue Ever! :D

  40. Gletsjer-ice blue
I think that’s the best one

  41. Electric Aero Blue of course :)

  42. Sverige Blue. The first thing I thought of when I saw the color was the flag.
