Saab hunting for new buyer

May 20, 2011 in Uncategorized

Dagens Industri (original article here) Saab Automobile has grown tired of the waiting for the EIB to approve Vladimir Antonov and are now trying to sell the factory buildings to other investors.

Thursday the real-estate agent DTZ came for a visit to the Trollhättan factory and was shown around by production-manager Gunnar Brunius.

Victor Muller and Saab are reaching out everywhere to get more money for Saab and hiring DTZ to find another owner is one possibility according to a source at Saab who told DI.

The idea is to use the securities of 280 million SEK that the swedish government has provided in order to sell the real-estate and then rent it back

During the last four weeks the EIB has stalled their approval of Vladimir Antonov as shareholder in Saab which is why Saab is now forced to switch track, hoping that the deal could be easier to perform with another owner.

Negotiations about less vacation

May 20, 2011 in Uncategorized

According to the union Metall’s chairman Håkan Skött, negotiations are now in place with Saab for shortening the summer vacation this year. Before the workforce can leave on their summer holidays 7500 cars on top of the cars ordered by Pang Da and the 5000 already on order, needs to be built. Before the production came to a halt, Saab built 220 cars per day and if the same production rate is able to be kept Saab will fall short 1000 cars when the workforce are supposed to start their vacations.

Thanx to Thomas for the information!

Open letter from Saab

May 20, 2011 in Saabology

Without further comment

It would be a significant understatement to say that the last weeks have been challenging for Saab Automobile.

We are a car company. Designing and building distinctive cars according to a well honed, Swedish philosophy is what we do. And yet our production line – the beating heart of our company – has been idle for the last five weeks.

Though no-one’s fault but our own, we found ourselves in a cashflow crisis and unable to buy the parts we need to build our cars. This has hurt our dealers, our suppliers, our employees and many of our customers, a situation for which we are truly sorry. We want nothing more than to secure our financial position so that we can get to building cars again.

May 20, 2011 in Events

Our first convoy comes from Allan H. in Charlottesville, Va. Ben Hinkle’s group is meeting on Friday, May 20th at the Exxon Gas Station, located at 400 South Jefferson Street in Frederick, Md at 1:00 P.M. Allan’s group will be leaving from Charlottesville, Va, at 9:00 AM and traveling up Route 29 North to Route 15 North into Frederick, Md to meet with Ben’s group at the Exxon. Allan is making arrangements with his SAAB mechanic, in Charlottesville, Va, to arrange to meet at his SAAB specialty shop around 8:30 AM for coffee/donuts.

_____________

SU Regular Coggs will also have details about his convoy coming from Massachusetts and Maine soon. As soon as we get more information you’ll know.

Details are still being ironed out, and this post will be updated to reflect them. Feel free to post in comments if you’re able to attend or if you would like to find out more information on any of the convoys.

Spyker Art Piece

May 19, 2011 in News

CEO Victor Muller (Spykercars) commissioned his aubergine Spyker 093. This piece is in part done in centuries old floorboards from a farm in Holland. These purple planks still have the nails (or, appropriately the ´spijkers´ as nails are called in Dutch) in it….

This piece will hang in the office of the CEO, in to the Zeewolde plant where the exclusive cars are built. His office now houses TWO Spykers: the one Oudhout did, and a real one, parked next to the conference table. Cool! Check out more about this at: http://www.oudhout.com/

Thanx Manfred for the link to this! =)

Bonus = Yes, Now = No

May 19, 2011 in Uncategorized

TTELA reports (original article here) that Victor Muller is not surrendering his bonus of around 4.5 million SEK. But he will wait to cash out because of cash shortage in the company.

This is illustrated by Spyker Cars General Meeting today. Moreover, reports are given that the work with a new CEO for Saab is almost ready.

During the meeting, the VEB, the Dutch shares saves Association, questioned how Muller can collect a bonus of around 4.5 million when the plant in Trollhattan is stationary and the fund is more than empty. Read the rest of this entry →

Pangda’s CEO reveals Saab plans in interview.

May 19, 2011 in News

I’ve just found this interview at a web site called China Car Times.
A link to the original piece can be found here,

The sudden buy into Saab by a relatively unknown Chinese car dealership group took the automotive world by storm earlier this week, the deal was announced just 11 days after Saab’s sudden marriage to Hawtai broke down after Hawtai were unable to satisfy Saab’s demands. It appears that Saab hammered out a deal with Pangda in extra fast time, but at the end of the day it appeared that Pangda were more interested in gaining products to sell rather than taking over Saab, Pangda’s CEO and founder Mr. Pang Qing Hua talked about his plans for Saab in a recent interview with the Chinese website, Auto Sohu.

Everything seemed to be on scedule when I entered the plane in Munich at 20.00. But as we sat down the pilot informed us that there was heavy snowfall in Stockholm and Arlanda had only one of three runways ready for starts and landing. So we sat there until 22.00 saw us take off. Arrival at Stockholm about Midnight, arrival at hotel bed somewhere north of 2.00. But all of that could not spoil the excitement for what was yet to come.

Morning Snippets: Annual Shareholder’s Meeting Day

May 19, 2011 in News

On the day of the Annual Shareholder’s meeting in Holland, there’s reason for cautious optimism of production starting back up in about a week. But first Victor Muller faces a firing squad from Dutch investors association VEB. Meanwhile, BAIC’s VP Mr. Dong, claims he’s not too worried about Saab’s plans to compete with a new MJV, but just comes off sounding like a jealous ex.
