Saab Car Club of Australia National Event

Over the Easter Long weekend (which was 5 days long this year) the Saab Car Club of Australia held its national event. The event was held in Coffs Harbour in New South Wales and its surrounding areas.

The weekend began with dinner and drinks on Friday night, as most had driven to Coffs Harbour that day.

Saturday was a river cruise on the Nambucca River from Nambucca Heads to Macksville. It was a chance to catch up with Saab club members from other parts of Australia we don’t normally see very often. Along the cruise our guide informed us of many facts about the river and the towns on the river. One that we’ll remember for a while is that oysters take 4 years to reach the stage at which they can be eaten! Saturday afternoon was left free to clean and prepare cars for the Concours D’elegance.

Sunday morning was the Concours D’elegance, in total there were 12 cars on show, there were 4 trophies for the Concours and many had been busy cleaning their cars the day before and that morning. Here’s a photo of the cars on display and the trophies.

On the Sunday night we had a dinner and the winners of the trophies were announced, here they are

Class: 99 & Classic 900
Winner: Stephen Emanuel (NSW)

Class: New Generation 900 and 9-3
Winner: Paul Overell (QLD)

Class: 9000 and 9-5
Winner: Bernie Figge (QLD)

Class: Overall Winner
Winner: Stephen Emanuel (NSW)

Class: People’s Choice
Winner: Bernie Figge (QLD)

Here’s a photo of Stephen’s winning 1988 900 Aero

On Monday we participated in a Navigation run that took us to Dorrigo. Dinner that night was at the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club, and many felt it was the best dinner of the weekend. All in all it was a great weekend to catch up with friends from around Australia who also happen to love the Saab brand.

And is that Swade’s old Viggen?

No, it’s not. Looks like a good one. I take it that would be Paul Overell’s car. So not only was there an overall winner, there was an overell winner as well! (sorry).

Steve’s car looks fantastic. I was trying to talk him into selling it just a few months ago, but he wouldn’t budge. Congratulations to him.

Good event, what a pity the SAAB event is every two years on th eOdd year. I am in the Singer Car Club as well, national rally is same alternate year! Otherwise I’d definately look at joining and bringing the Sonett over towed behind the 9-5 Aero. Well maybe when I repaint it in a few years, I’ll make the effort.
Good show anyway guys.
