Info requested about 900 Convertible in the US
July 23, 2011 in News
Our reader Ivan asked us for help yesterday, if anyone on SU could find out more information about this car:
http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp?listingId=69522716&CMP=usedInv
Car fax: http://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistory/p/Report.cfx?vin=YS3AL76L6P7002965&partner=DLR_3&zipCode
The car is located in Bloomington Illinois, USA.

Not meaning to be facetious but why doesn’t Ivan email the dealer and ask for more info? If the car was a trade-in they might even give him the contact info for the previous owner. Exactly what additional information is he seeking?

It’s usually against the rules (at least in most states) for dealers to give out contact information of previous owners. He might just want a 2nd person’s opinion (other than the dealer) who’s a Saab nut to look over it : ).

they tried.. last owner does not want to be contacted
what i know is that the car :
“The car was used for parades while it was with the last owner, we did find out that he does not want to be contacted, which most people won’t allow us to, but we do know for a while it was used only for parades.
As far as the car itself goes I have some more information. The car has a newer intake manifold, turbo inlets, and it comes with extra carpet mats and tonneau covers. The power driver seat works, rear defrost, and the power door locks and front power windows. The top is in amazing shape, no tears or scratches. The carpets in the car look amazing, no stains or anything, same with the leather interior. The only problem I noticed was the rear power windows don’t work that great.
That’s all the information I was able to find out. I had a couple guys who went out with me to get all that information and said it was taken wonderful care of and it starts good and is a really good car.”

+1. Hope you find someone to check it out for you. I would help if I lived close enough.

Here in the UK that would be considered quite a desirable old car, last of the old 900 convertibles in what appears to be a good condition, in real money that equates to £2,500 sterling which depending on condition does not seem an unrealistic retail price, it would be worth finding an experienced Saab person to look the car over and if the potential buyer likes it and can do a deal that suits, he should buy it.
With old cars sometimes it is best to buy the car that is in front of you rather than spend to much time digging into its history, check the car out carefully and make your decision base on what you see, not what you don’t know!

In Sweden anyone can look for previous owners (for free) by entering the car register website. More information about the latest two owners are available if calling a service number.

I didn’t know that. That’s cool. Wish more dealers around here would/could do that. The only thing we really have over here is carfax at least to my knowledge.

Too bad. I was just kidding. Bringing a car back to Canada is a little complecated. I might have to do it eventually if I don’t find my cabrio here.

That car seems to be in an absolutely outstanding condition. And to that price! It’s also one of the last produced first-gen Convertibles. I wouldn’t hesitate one second.

Agreed : )

Looking at it closer, it seems like a real gem… if you want a slushbox.
i. ant. kal. said on July 24, 2011
what do you mean?
No 9 said on July 25, 2011
It’s not a manual. I don’t like autos, specially on a SAAB turbo, but that’s just personal taste, not a problem.

i am still thinking….

If I were you, I would contact Steven at Inside Saab (inside.saab.com) and see if he can dig out some information about the car from the Saab archives.
