9-4x sightings

July 18, 2011 in Saabology

Update 2011-07-19: Fabian from Germany was in Sweden the other day and also wants to share some photos he got on two 9-4x he spotted. One is the same as Niclas saw, but one photo is on another one in grey. / Carl-Henrik

This letter came to us today from Niclas along with some stunning photos of a 9-4x!

Hello SaabsUnited!

I was on a small trip to the west coast in Sweden last week, at Thursday we were driving through Uddevalla and we visited Torp (many stores there). When we should drive off i saw a car and was very surprised to see it on the road, I know its close to Trollhättan here but it looked like a civil trip in the car. So i grabbed my camera and snapped of a couple of photos of a brand new 9-4x outside a McDonalds with a couple sitting inside…. Read the rest of this entry →

Facts on the Hirsch Performance launch in the USA

July 18, 2011 in Hirsch, USA

Last week I posted about Hirsch Performance finally being available in the USA. The discussion that followed in comments was quite emotional and made it clear that a lot of questions are still unanswered. What is needed are reliable info and facts. So I picked up the phone and had a long chat with Erik from Hirsch Performance to get into the details of the processes behind the US launch and to hear about the challenges.

Saab of the Week: Grrrriffin

July 18, 2011 in Sotw

This is the first time a customer 9-3 Griffin hosts as Saab of the Week here at SaabsUnited! This weeks story comes from Joakim Persson, Lövstabruk in Sweden:

The car is 9-3 SportCombi Griffin TTiD4 (180 hp) in Oak Brown that I got as a company car. I picked it up at Svenska Bil in Segeltorp, Stockholm on July 1st. I have driven about 800 km so far and I must say I couldn’t be more pleased with the car.  I actually bought it based solely on the pictures in the press release and a fair bit of hearsay. I hadn’t even driven the TTiD before…

I have always wanted a 9-3SC and now I took the chance when it appeared.

I would like to include a big thanks to Johan Hägglöf at Svenska Bil, who stayed after closing time on a Friday so I could pick up my car after being stuck in a traffic jam through Stockholm the entire afternoon. It took me 2½ hours to move roughly 20 km…

New SU-Functions: Photo Gallery & World Map

July 18, 2011 in News

Since yesterday our new high-performance servers up and running, it allows us to add more functions to this website.

Map of Visitors

This is a fairly small but very cool new function that shows where the current visitors of the website are located. If you click the link in red where it is written “Map of Visitors” you’ll get a new window showing a world map with small dots indicating where a person currently is browsing this website. The map shows any visitor that has been active on the site for the past 30 minutes as a default. Read the rest of this entry →

A ride INSIDE the 9-4x

July 17, 2011 in News

Friday afternoon ANA had a 9-4x leading a half-marathon that is being run during a local Trollhättan festival, which we reported on here. What we did not say then, was that our photographer RikardH was inside the 9-4x! This car is no ordinary 9-4x, it has serial number 1 and it is also the 9-4x that is normally displayed at the Saab Museum.

This car is a pre-production model so please be advised that it may not be the same standard and finish as the cars that will be delivered to customers! As far as we know there is no reporter that has reported on a 9-4x being driven on swedish roads, so these photos are a world first! Enjoy!

Delivery dates set

July 17, 2011 in News

A number of people have now received news about a preliminary delivery date for their ordered cars. Several dealerships have received the production schedule and notified their customers accordingly.

This is really positive news and gives us an indication that the production might start as scheduled or at least in a close proximity to that date. I have heard that everyone at Saab is now working extremely hard to make this happen!

Matt Joy drives the 9-4x

July 17, 2011 in News

Matt Joy from the Eastern Daily Press (UK) got an early drive of Saab’s new 9-4X sport utility vehicle. Here is Matt’s story.

Saab is a combination of Swedish origins and a reluctance to follow the crowd – products that don’t slavishly follow the fickle finger of fashion hold a certain appeal.

Not that Saab is a company that ignores customers. The recently updated 9-5 received some detailed tweaks in response to their feedback, and now there’s a new car that meets a need – Saab is going soft-roading with the 9-4X which has four-wheel drive and off-road capability. It’s more of a crossover, a tag Saab is happy for it to wear and in doing so it takes on a host of premium rivals.

SUHRT – A Great Success!

July 17, 2011 in News

Yesterday was to say the least a fun day, I talked to Jörgen Trued, manager for the SaabsUnited Historic Rally team and they had some great news to share! They were the first Saab to cross the finish-line and placed 5th in the overall position! Considering that the people finishing in the top 10 positions were almost all semi-professional drivers, SUHRT made an amazing run!

This morning the 9-3 sportsedan and the 9-3 sportcombi had gone missing from Saab Swedens website. They were apparently parked in a different garage for the night because now they are back! =)

Current Management of Saab

July 17, 2011 in News

We all know that a number of people have left the board of Saab and that Victor Muller was left alone in control of Saab. Spyker was changed into Swedish Automobile and the unions are left as spectators to what is actually going on in the company after both their representatives leaving the board. But what is the situation right now, has there been any changes? Read the rest of this entry →

Latest 9-5 Reviews: It’s What They Don’t Know That Matters

July 16, 2011 in Editorial, News

As I read through the latest round of 9-5 reviews published this week in the US media, I’ve been struck by the lack of depth that they bring to their reviews. Sure, they cover what details are on the surface, and they do a pretty decent job of bringing their own opinions to bear. But the surface is where it stops, and for anyone who knows anything about the car, it’s frustrating.
