Want to buy a 9-4x in Europe?!

July 23, 2011 in News

Yes you can, there are two dealerships in Sweden for example that have imported one 9-4x each and they are fully approved for driving on the roads of Europe. Previous legislation demanded that US-Cars being imported to Europe needed to have the larger scale in km/h but these rules were changed a few years ago so that the car only needs to show the speed limits in Europe. The 9-4x can be modified so that the digital display shows km/h and other Saabs can also be modified so that the speedometer is controlled by km/h. So if you feel like becoming the first customer in Sweden or Europe to buy a 9-4x this is your chance!

Bilpartner in Lund Sweden: Saab 9-4X 3,0i 265hk XWD BASE A6 -12

Otto Olsson bil AB in Tomelilla, South Sweden: Saab 9-4X 2,8T Aero 300hk XWD -12

Its regsitered on Saab AB? As i wrote the other Day when the white One popped up first here it seems to Be a Test vehicle from Saab themselves?

    • Why is it so fun to check registration numbers, and publish all the data; because it’s a new vehicle?

      • Probalby just to make a mark. The only thing interesting in all this information connected to the post is actually who is the owner. The rest.. we know. And several posts are empty without information, so why posting them one might wonder…

    • Yes, you’ve said that before. But does it change anything actually? The dealer is selling the car… And you could have cleaned up the information and removed all the blank rows saying nothing. Actually, the only information relevant to your questions in the bottom is who is the owner. Everything else.. well.. we do know that it is a Saab…

      • Its interesting to get the info who the owner is, because i don’t think you can sell a car which you don’t own. And the second advert says its available from october. So its the planned release date and nothing special here.

        • Let me put it this way; it is one thing to look at the picture, check it, and then mention the owner, if that’s the subject for the discussion in the comment, it’s another thing to put the registration number into the text together with the “chassinummer” etc. on a page that’s also indexed by search engines.

As for the ads, and this post, I don’t use or follow what’s on “Blocket”, but I had seen both via Saab’s site, and I agree about the 3.0i, I interpreted that ad as a teaser, about things coming up in the autumn, nothing more.

        • Of course you can sell a car that you don’t own.. as long as the owner has given you permission to do that. And yes, the owner might be intersting.. but all the else? Is it important for us here to know “Främre överhäng: mmj” ??

    • I cleaned out all the irrelevant information and translated the important parts to English. Hope you don’t mind.

  2. What’s the tax-free price?
Being part of the EU and this vehicle being under 6 months old and less than 6,000Km on the clock, It’s still what the EU regard as a “New means of transport” It means that purchasing this vehicle outside of Sweden means you will have to pay the VAT in the country of use and registration. For a Private person that means you can claim the VAT back from Sweden by sending proof of payment in your country. For businesses, it means you can purchase this vehicle exempt of VAT on your Registered VAT ID number. All the time the vehicle stays on your books it will remain VAT free. But naturally you will not be able to claim any VAT back on your tax return. Naturally when you finally sell the vehicle, VAT maybe due on the sale price but not necessarily, as the vehicle will be no longer a “New means of transport”.

This only applies to EU member states.

Yes, you read that correct they are not Countries they are States.
Bet you didn’t know that since 1993 you’ve been living in Federal Europe. :P

  3. I wish… but registration tax only for one of these would be somewhere around $10-15k at home (Hungary).

  4. With the cost a bit went too far.

  5. Hum… What about maintenance ? Will mechanics from Saab dealers have any instruction on this model ?

  6. Are you sure it’s imported cars?

The ad from Bilpartner says “available from October” and the second ad from Otto (the picture shows Saabs demo car) has listed prices for both base and aero. To me it looks like they are just promoting the 9-4X with a delivery date in October. Nothing wrong with doing that since it increases interest in the 9-4X but I don’t think they are available now.

Does anyone have more information about the change of the tachometer?
I’m right now in contact with an US Saab Dealer to buy a 9-4x Aero and ship it to Europe from New York. Due to the very low Dollar Exchange rate this makes sense to at least think about.
But what I´m wondering about is the warranty terms? Does anyone have a clue if an US imported car has a worldwide warranty coverage?

    • The US cars have only warranty coverage for USA. And there are a lot of things more to change than only the tachometer. I imported a 9-7x from america in 2005 and it wasn’t so easy to get it registered in germany.

Hi Baracuda, thanks for your reply. But what exactly need to be changed? Navigation? Radio? Turn Signal?

        • You will need a “type approval” for the car. It might be that the xenon headlights are not horizontal. The turn signals seem to thr same. Navigation of course, the FM band has only .3, .5, .7 and .9.
Some warning lights are different in the US. In which european country are you planning to Import the car?

          • cmd said on July 23, 2011

It will be Switzerland. Normaly it#s very easy to import and Tax + VAT together is 12% which is very moderate- The only thing I’m affraid of are stuff like navigation and digital radio. I know this has been a problem in the past, but today as everything is digital, this should’nt be a problem any more. Hopefully!

          • I have a ’92 900 convertible, that was imported by the first owner from USA, here in Spain, the major issue are the rear fog lights, that in USA aren’t used, but in nowadays cars it’s only to put the bulb and/or change the rear light, activate with the TECHII or similar and go, for the front lights, for example the Xenon, in Europe they must have autoleveling system and autocleaning. The speedo, if the info are in km/h and mph no problem, the important thing is there are the km/h.

As I said before this Saab will be sold in Europe officially by Saab. For sure as any other Saab will be some changes in the engine ECU, equipment and similar between the USA version and Europe version, but for legal road matters, it won’t be so difficult to adapt the USA version.

            Regards

      • Yes, they have changed the rules 2009 about the tachometer. But I believe the regular trick is to take a Canada-spec car if possible, since it’s closer to EU standards. But is the 9-4x available in a Canadian version yet?

        • The Navigation unit for the US spec 9-5 differs from the EU version, and its not the Software only, should Be the same for the 9-4x i think. The missing rear fog light is not the big problem. Its correct that the car will officially be sold in europe but if you are importing it before the market start here it may possibly mean that you need to homologate the car in form of Emmisions and things.

          • I don’t think Canada is to get the 9-4X until October but my local dealer, who posts here quite regularly, would know for definite.

  8. I think I posted a message before, but well, here again. This car isn’t like the 9-7x, that wasn’t “officially” sold by Saab in Europe and only the Dealers that want to distribute here should go without Saab support. Here in Spain is sold officially by Saab, few weeks ago was announced the prices;

45550€ for the 3.0i “Base”, 49500€ for the 3.0 “Premium” and 55500€ for the Aero. All this prices includes the 18% fo VAT and 14,75% of road tax.

The think is, the lead time for delivery and the when the dealers will receive the training for this models as the situation isn’t quite good. For example the dealer still waiting for a 9-3 griffin demo car ordered in febraury. And some parts for repairs must be taken from the Trollhattan production line instead of the parts warehouse.

    Regards

  9. Don’t forget that Svenska bil in Akalla in Stockholm have a 9-4X in their showroom, and I saw two 9-4x in the backyard and one in their garage as well :)
