IAA Saab convoy: Design a livery for a IAA Saab

Frankfurt in September, a city full of car crazy people from all over Europe, but no Saab at the IAA. However, few will notice it. Therefore Saab is planning to shows presence before the exhibition entrances, at the parking lots and on the Frankfurt hot spots.

During the motor show a convoy of 15 new Saabs will cruise twice a day for several hours through Frankfurt. The Saabs will be made ready next week and will get a flashy livery. Saab is giving the on-line community the possibility to help.

At least one of the cars should be decorated with ideas from the Saab community and will be designed accordingly to our wishes. If we deliver many good ideas, maybe more than one car will be designed by the community.

What do we want to emphasize? Is it the turbo history of the brand, the E85 capbility, or the cool Scandinavian design and its Swedish origin?

It is up to us to create an image of Saab on the streets that will inspire people to gain interest in the brand from Trollhättan. What do we want to communicate? What makes our small Swedish brand unique?

Let us know. Time is short, the IAA starts on September 13th. Currently, at different places in Germany, is being worked full steam on the alternative Saab IAA. The next two weeks will be exciting, because we still have ideas where we need your help.

The best and most creative proposal will be awarded. Saab Germany boss Jan Philipp Schumacher will give the winner during the IAA a “Saabish” gift. What, will not be revealed. 😉

Please send an e-mail with your best ideas to [email protected]

Deadline is September 1st.

If you want to turn heads show a red 9-5 with the 19 inch Black-Turbine Wheels. My Red Viggen has Black Wheels and when I pulled into Portland Saab in Maine on Thursday the sales staff came out and asked me how much I wanted for the car!

Perfectly understandable 🙂

Maybe they should try a MCY NG9-5
Since my PS abilities are nonpresent I hope that some of the other guys in here comes up with something really stunning.
I have seen some impressive work here before, so I am sure that there will be a lot of ideas floating around shortly

To semi-quote the great Australian bard:
“You could drive a das boring, or you could drive a Saab — the choice is yours!”

A bit suicidal in Germany, isn’t it?
Maybe something like “Saabs are meant to be driven, not to stay in a showroom”.

Suggestion to a decal on a NG9-5 SC:
“Keen on more car news? Free entrance at SAAB Frankfurt with lots to see!”
(There is a dealer in Frankfurt….right?!?)
or
“Why do as everybody else? Visit SAAB Frankfurt!”

On a Independence 9-3 Cab:
“Do you like this? Sorry, they are fresh out!
(Smaller cap)
But SAAB Frankfurt can discuss the next unique batch coming next winter!”

Is it possible to put the Aero-X and Phoenix on a display at a Frankfurt dealer? Then that might attract some interest and more to write about on those decals.

something like:

‘we missed IAA…don’t miss us. we’re at your local SAAB-dealer. SAAB Frankfurt’

or something catchy:

‘don’t settle for the ordinary. SAAB’

in contrasting colours on the my2011 93 ss/sc/conv, my2011 95 ss(/sc?) in top trims.

What about a blue convertible with yellow stripes to make a Swedish flag color scheme? And a writing on it “Don’t follow the crowd. Saab”

And where can I apply as a driver (for one day) in the Frankfurt convoy?
I would spend a day of vacation for it!!

Oh… just checked my travel plans. I could only participate as a volunteer driver on the 15th September….

What is the objective of this activity? What is/are the message(s)? Who are the target audience(s)? Is this the best way to reach them? How will you measure success?

Those questions I think would be better asked at Saab
Us here at SU has just been asked in as far as I can see, so I think that the objective here is decorating one or more cars with the message that commenters here at SU have.

I am sorry if I misunderstand something in your comment, but it looks like questions not so much at the people here as to Saab.

I was just making the point that it doesn’t seem like there is a clear objective….

Why not offer return trips in the cars to the local dealer? As someone else said have the Phoenix there (and NG 9-5 SC) and smorgasbord.

very cool idea, these convoys! Why focus on new cars only? I know SAAB wants to mainly sell these new cars but also the older models are still attractive to the eye. And many older models are often very well known by “the public”. And the oldies built the SAAB heritage. Would be cool to arrange also a convoy of e.g. convertibles from all years, a convoy of 900 classics, 96’s etc. I guess it would be difficult to have these cars available all the time during the IAA but I can see possibilities during a weekend, volunteers driving their… Read more »

As I escaped from Irene yesterday in a westerly direction along I-90 I could not help noticing real nice tones of BLUE on the competition. When I was a little Pre-SAABesent boy, my Mother once remarked how Ford always had a real nice selection of colors. I saw Fords, Subarus, Toyotas, Hyundais even a blue Pontiac 8 (even now extinct) it still looked good. My 9-5 Combi is gray because I like that for an everyday business car but there are clients who would really like something a little more bold. This is why I chose the red Viggen. An… Read more »

Peter, I had a (male) friend who was color blind too and had never appreciated art paintings due to that circumstance. But so he one day enthusiastically (with wild gestures) told me that he had met an artist who painted in gray-scale only. And for once in his life he actually could see what the painting looked like!

I would like to see more artistic and creative decorations on everyday cars – not only the trucks! Maybe this parade will start something..?
