In the preparation for the SaabsUnited October Fest I spoke to ex-manager Olle Granlund who is a key profile in the long history of successful Saab projects. He advised me to take a look at the webpage for retired Saab people. What a goldmine of historical write-ups and pictures. Stuff I had not seen before and stories beyond the radar coverage. For example an article about Saab production in Uruguay. Would like to get one of those 500 cars….
It is all in swedish but you guys who do not read swedish could use Google Chrome Translate or simply sign up for a swedish language class at the nearest college/university.

RBM Performance is the leading independant saab parts specialist company in France since 2004 with international vocation too. The company has been launched by myself Romain Mariani (car parts industry specialist but morever a real saab pasionate person). The story behind this company is simple :

I fall in love for saab’s cars and the brand when I was 6 years old when my father bought a 900 in the early 80′s ! Since this day he never bought another car brand and I always thought I will drive saabs when I would be able to… Today I am not only driving saabs everyday but also working with and for others saab owners who share the same passion than us.
Our job at RBM performance is providing everything for saabs owners! as our slogan says : “saab cars are our passion”

CabrioChallenge 2011

Last weekend Saab Cabriolet owners gathered for the annual Saab CabrioChallenge
It started of 4 years ago with the premier run near and around lake Hjälmaren and northern tip of lake Vättern. I was part of the team then but now it is organized by my buddies Fredrik and Anna. They drive a 200o Saab 9-3 Viggen Monte Carlo Yellow Convertible. The idea from the beginning was an idea to replicate what Saab France had done some years ago a dedicated touring event just with Saab Convertibles. Unfortunateley it has been hard to gather more than 20 cars in Sweden. Lets hope for more cars in the future. The participants this year seams to have had a great time in on the roads of the province of Östergötland 2 hours south of Stockholm on the eastern seaboard. Next year the event will be hosted in the southernmost province of Sweden, Skåne on the eastside in the area of Österlen 18-19th of August. Good luck!

On a recent clearout of our Leamington Spa branch we came across two old framed Saab pictures. The pictures were pages taken from a journal named Motor Sport dated February 1961!

Rumors: test-sequence

There are rumors floating around that Saab might run a test-sequence on the production line next week, to make sure that it runs as it should, this would mean that the cars on the line would move a bit again! Some cars might actually get finished!

SU from a Saab employee point of view

I’ve just read this comment from a user called sabworker. I think some here should read it twice.

I must say that it seems that the tone here in SU, is starting to get very hard and negative.
I thought that this site was about to show support and passion for the brand Saab.

As an employee at Saab, I feel sad that our salary maybe be delayed, but not unexpected. The most of us that work here knows that this could happen, but we want to work here. I believe that the management are doing all they can to solve this, and I don’t believe that there is someone here that would do a better job.

So guys and ladies, keep calm and show your support for the Brand, their employees, the dealers and anybody affected by the current Saab situation.

When this is over, there will be plenty of time to point with the finger.

October Fest Update

As you might know we are hosting a major event on October 1st in Trollhättan. Hirsch, MapTun and Saab will help us out with the event and we are organizing a lot of fun stuff!

Here is a small update of what we’ve done so far.

ANA Trollhättan has announced that they are going all in on this one! They will organize the following:
- Great prices on New Saab’s they have in stock
- Great prices on used Saabs
- Great deals on new parts
- Sale of used parts
- The main event will be at ANA’s facilities with both Hirsch and MapTun having dedicated spaces inside the facilities.

Saab Automobile Informs Employees On Salary Payments.

Trollhättan, Sweden: Swedish Automobile N.V. (Swan) and Saab Automobile AB (Saab Automobile) announce that there is a risk of delayed payment of August wages to Saab Automobile employees as some of the funds that were committed by investors may not be paid in time to effect such salary payments.

Saab Automobile is taking all necessary actions to collect these funds in time and continues discussions with various parties to obtain additional short-term funding so that the payments can be made, as well as resume sustainable production. There can however be no assurance that the necessary funding will be obtained or the funds collected.

This is not just about Saab and bankers and money. Victor Muller made the right decision last Wednesday by putting into action the largest, best, and most creative dealmakers on the globe on this case.

This is no ordinary business deal to any of us. These icons of business understand that this is a special situation. This is indeed a sacred mission to all that are working on this around the clock 7 days a week and until this comes to swift conclusion.

Dedicated customer!

Being a bit crazy about the stuff that Hirsch offers I wanted to promote them a bit extra! A while ago I found a nice sticker with the Hirsch logo on it. So yesterday I decided that what better place would be for that sticker than on my car! A lot of cool and pretty exclusive Hirsch stuff will go into that car soon so it felt appropriate =)

Local dealer happy to smile

My local Saab dealer, Astley Saab of Yeovil, (www.astleysaab.co.uk/) is happy to report that things are not looking too bad at the moment. They are diversifying their ways and they are also managing to sell “Brand New Saab’s”.

Some of you know that in the UK the registrations change twice a year and on the 1st September the “61″ plate will be seen on the roads.
Jerry Peck and his staff have five new 61 plated Saab’s waiting to drive onto the roads of Yeovil for the first time.

SU October Fest in THN 1st of October *Update

Good news isn’t plentiful today. When I woke up this morning I woke up to a mailbox filled with all kinds of sad stuff and it got me thinking. If there is no good news to report them perhaps we should create it! And off I went, made a big number of phone calls and now about 10 hours later a lot of pieces are falling into place!

On the 1st of October. SaabsUnited together with MapTun, Hirsch Performance, State-of-Nine and Saab (and a few more that is to be confirmed soon) are hosting a Major event in Trollhättan to show our support of Saab and to enjoy the best that the Saab community has to offer.

MapTun will be there with a big display, a number of cars, products, car-upgrades and very special offers.

From Hirsch Performance you will be able to meet Manfred Lenherr (Sales & Marketing Director, Hirsh Performance) and he is bringing, together with some colleagues, some fantastic deals on both car upgrades (30% MY2007 and newer, 50% on MY2007 and older) and parts that can be pre-ordered soon! A very special car from Hirsch will also be on display during these days! =)

Everyone bringing a Saab will be able to test drive both MapTun and Hirsch software in their own cars during the day, a large number of “normal” cars will also be available for test drive, just like in when we hosted the event in May.
