My friend Martin who works at Concept Saab in Cardiff (www.concept-cars.co.uk) sent me an email about a game show just the other day.
Concept Saab was asked if they could provide Saab Convertibles that could be shown in a Welsh Speaking Game Show.

Starved of product, parts and showroom traffic, some beleaguered U.S. dealers are planning for life after Saab.
Saab auto production has been halted since March when unpaid suppliers stopped delivering parts in Trollhattan, Sweden. Saab has not paid production workers since then. Last week the Swedish government initiated collection proceedings against the automaker at the request of several suppliers.
Swedish Automobile CEO Victor Muller urged dealers to keep faith and said he is close to securing bridge funding that will tide Saab over until mid-October. That’s when a promised 245 million euro ($352 million) payment is scheduled to arrive from Chinese auto distributor Pang Da Automobile Trade Co., he said. He said the money will restart production. Bob Maiello from Oak Ridge Nj has shared his collection of photos from the Saab Owners Convention 2011 which took place in New Jersey this weekend. As Bob said in the e-mail to us, he hasn’t heard of a Toyota or Honda convention ever, to visit the event was a unique experience that made one proud to drive a Saab.

Last week the news popped about dealerships now starting to leave Saab in Sweden. We’ve been hearing the rumors for some time now that this would happen at the end of August if it was clear that the production most likely would not start on the 29th of August.
The first one to quit was Holmgrens who has its HQ in Jönköping about 1,5 hours east of Gothenburg. This dealership sells cars in several cities including Jönköping, Nässjö, Vetlanda, Vimmerby, Västervik, Värnamo and Gislaved. According to Holmgrens they are ranked as the top 5 dealer in the world when it comes to selling Saab, which is not surprising. I was actually in Jönköping last week and its amazing to see the amount of Saabs rolling around on the streets there. Read the rest of this entry →

This weeks Saab is from the US, and Michelle Baxter:
My Saab most memorable Saab was Fred the Frog. Fred and I leaped every where througout the United States. Atlanta to Colorado? No problem. Atlanta to the Florida Keys? No Problem! Atlanta to New York? NO PROBLEM! But the best is when I would take Fred camping….. I could go where no four wheel drive could go! All you need is a little bit of turbo and a front wheel drive car….. and you can go anywhere!
This picture was taken at the top of a mountain in Tennesee. My friends and I went camping and caving. They laughed at the bottom of the mountain, telling me that Fred and I would never make it up to the top. As usual, me and my favorite Saab proved them wrong. The mud on the tires was a permanant look for my car.

This weekend me and Johanna attended our dear friends Mikael and Helena’s wedding. They are now Mr & Mrs Gustafsson =) I’ve known both of them since 1999 and had plenty of good times together with them! =) Saturday afternoon they got married and Mikael being a dedicated volvo driver you can imagine my surprise when I saw the car they had picked as their ride from the church. Well I know that Helena does like Saab so she might have had a saying in the matter =)

Despite the mess that Saab has been in these past few months, things at spinoff company e-AAM, a joint venture between Saab engineers and American Axle, are ramping up. They’re increasing their office space at Innovatum Office Park in Trollhättan, and are one of the ten largest employers in the city.

Just to let everyone know, SaabsUnited has donated 200 USD to Coggs cause! Fighting cancer is probably one of the most important things we can do in life…
This comes to us from our dear friend who we’re all happy to hear has come through his bout with cancer stronger. Coggs is a frequent SU commenter and many of you know him from his drives and “cruises” he leads around New England. If you could, please help him meet his goal (and bust through it) of $10,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He’s really close to meeting, and I can tell you myself that Dana Farber is one of those special places that gives patients hope when few others will, and their research benefits those around the world stricken with cancer.

We live in a world were the announcement of a rumour of a newer version of a product renders the current product obsolete. I’m quite old school, and search for a product that covers my needs at a good price, and if this is the last years model that is price reduced, and on the other side the current model has features I wasn’t looking for, I buy the last years model.

I don’t think it will be much going on this weekend regarding to Saab, so we should concentrate on the beautiful things of life and enjoy the SOC, or the pictures from the SOC, if you could not arrange to be there.

Last Night, Tim Colbeck gave the keynote speech for the Sponsors’ Dinner at the Saab Owners Convention. The New York Times was there to cover it, and mention that he had one particular clip he found particularly relevant to Saab’s current situation.
Swade played that clip here before, and it’s certainly an apt time to bring it out again.
