Another 9-3 (Griffin) living in the UK.

August 13, 2011 in News

After my spotting of a 2012 9-3 SS in the UK yesterday came an email from TonymacUK who is the proud owner of an SE Wagon.

The car is an SE 160 with Parchment leather, with powered seats and Satnav as options. With hindsight wish I`d not bothered with the Satnav (way overpriced, even though I got 10% off) and spent that money on the 180 with seat and leather upgrade. But nevertheless very happy, drives beautifully, looks good!

Cheers,

Tony

Saab 9-5 Hungarian style

August 12, 2011 in Saabology

After the more technical post from yesterday, today something to simply sit down and enjoy.

One of our readers has pointed us to this video. It is the creation of what I would call a video-blogger. He comes from Hungary and on his site Így szeresd a Saabod (Something like: So love your Saab) there are other interesting videos like The Dieselspider, a visit to the Saabmuseum and the Hungarian Save Saab Convoy.

The videos are very professionally produced, visually and regarding the soundtrack. This one is about the 9-5, and although I don’t understand a single word, I’ve already seen it twice. :-)

New 9-3 SS SE spotted on the road in the UK

August 12, 2011 in News

During the Wales Golf there were a few new 9-3 Griffins on display. They were there for all to test drive but today I spotted one on the roads of Yeovil. I’m not sure if it was a private one but it was good to see.

One thing I will add, the name Griffin is not being used in our Country but you know what model I’m talking about.

I managed to get a quick, very grainy picture as proof, while sat at the traffic lights. So looking forward to seeing more.

9-3 named something else?

August 12, 2011 in News

A few days ago we heard the story that Saab might change the name 9-3 into something else? There were some pretty strong reactions to that both here and on other sites. Some talked about a possibility that GM still owned the rights to that name and Saab needed something new, if this is true we have not yet been able to verify, others felt that this was a move by the current Saab management to distance themselves into something new from the GM days.

Personally I feel that the 9-3 name is a well established and well known segment name. Changing it I think would be a big mistake, but I still want to know exactly how everyone here feels about it, so here is a poll to shed some light on the matter.

Should Saab CHANGE the name 9-3 into something else?

Saab in good standing with tax payments

August 12, 2011 in News

While today is the final day for Saab Automobile to pay social security contributions and taxes, the credit on Saab’s account with the Swedish Tax Authority is sufficient to cover taxes for salaries paid in July.

Therefore, there is no need for Saab to make any additional tax payments and is up-to-date on their current tax obligations.

Intelligent A-pillar

August 11, 2011 in Saabology

WARNING: Long post!!!

I never thought that I would say that active structures makes sense, as I still don’t think that an active bonnet makes a big difference if a car collides with a young child, but in this case I will make an exception.

Autoliv in cooperation with Saab is developing an expandable A-pillar, so reports the Automotive Engineering International magazine in its printed version. The full article can also be found here.

A REAL RIDE!

Patrik Söderbergs Saab 92

The history of this car is pretty simple. The owner Patrik Söderberg has had to do with cars since he was 16 years old. However during the last 10 years, wife, house and kids take up some time as well. During the summer of 2008 the cravings became too great and he wanted to fix up a Saab 92. He placed an add with the Swedish Saab club and got a reply from an enthusiast about a car that was relatively in order and free from corrosion. The body was however severely damaged and bumpy.

Error in judgement

August 10, 2011 in SaabsUnited Related

Sometimes we do make mistakes here on SU and this one is on me! I wanted to be nice and help out a new young writer named JoppeVR who is running a blog called SaabTopia in Belgium, by letting him write for SU sometimes as a guest writer. I wanted him to get a chance to develop his knowledge of online media and also to develop his english and writing skills.

Last weekend he wrote a post about a dealership closing in Belgium. I have found out now that this post was wrong! I have talked to the dealer and an assumption that Joppe made about the dealer having lost faith in Saab was made by Joppe himself and was not true! Joppe posted it as fact which is was NOT!

The blame is not on him though, its on me. I should have checked the background of his post much more carefully than I did. Especially since it was such a sensitive post… I have since then decided that it would be best if Joppe did not write for SU anymore.

I have been in contact with the dealership in question and they wish to inform everyone that they do believe in Saab and have plans to invest in Saab in the future.

I want to assure everyone that I will not make another mistake like this again!

The differing fortunes of Saab and Volvo

August 10, 2011 in News

Marketplace Publicradio.org (original article here)

Two years after GM sold Saab and Ford sold off Volvo, there has been a striking difference in how the Swedish brands have fared.

KAI RYSSDAL: The Swedish automaker Saab is in no small amount of trouble. Last Friday, the company narrowly dodged having to file a bankruptcy petition. But it’s unclear how long Saab will last. Assembly lines have been shut down since April, which is making some people in Detroit really happy.

Big American carmakers first began selling off their Swedish brands a couple of years ago. General Motors did away with Saab; Ford washed its hands of Volvo.

So Christopher Werth went to see how the Swedish auto business is getting along without us.

Saab may drop 9-3 name

August 10, 2011 in News

Autonews.com (original article here):

9-3 Convertible logo

LOS ANGELES – The next generation Saab 9-3 sedan may have a different name when it debuts in the first quarter of 2013, the automaker’s North American president said Tuesday.

“There’s a chance we might move away from that,” said Tim Colbeck, president of Saab Cars North America. Instead, the company may adopt a name for the 9-3′s successor that draws from the brand’s heritage, although no decisions about the name have been made, he said.

Colbeck said the next-generation 9-3 is scheduled to go on sale in the first quarter of 2013 and will be an “edgy” reinterpretation of design cues used by the automaker in the past. He declined to be more specific. Read the rest of this entry →
