Spare seat to October Fest

September 24, 2011 in Uncategorized

Is there anyone in Euro land who wants to go to Trollhattan but can not get a ride next weekend?

My great friend sadly can not be with me now as his Aero was damaged and it will cost him a few pennies to fix.
So I have a spare seat if there is anyone interested in joining me and are happy to share with a small part of the travel costs.

I will confess to only knowing English so woud request that you can talk it too.

If anyone is interested please email me at robin@swedishday.co.uk.

SaabR’s Saab 9-3 Coupé

September 24, 2011 in News

The SaabsUnited team received this great email from Rob about his love for his 9-3 Coupé. Here is his story.

My name is Rob Adolph (SaabR on SaabsUnited) and I wanted to share the story of my Saab and my connection to this great marque. Although I have been in the Saab family less time than most, it is no less important to me.

A little bit about me first. I work with Jason Powell for Springman’s Saab in BC, Canada. I am one of two salespeople on the floor here and love to talk Saab. The cars, the company, the community all make working for the future of our company worthwhile.

Buying Saab Museum cars?

September 23, 2011 in Editorial

Yesterday Paul Åkerlund, the chairman of the city council board of Trollhättan called upon enthusiasts to help save the Saab Museum in case the reconstruction would fail for some reason. This was a direct plea for help to us!

What I suggest is that we start a fund-raiser, a foundation is created with a number of trustees, who these people should be needs to be discussed. Then a foundation is to be created with a bank and the money collected. I would be more than happy to help organize the foundation and even contribute with a significant amount, but I and the rest of SaabsUnited would need a lot of help. From ALL the clubs out there in the world and all the Saab fans! The amount mentioned in yesterdays news were apron 5 Million swedish crowns, which is about 650’000 Euro. I’m no fool and I never dream of raising this kind of money but it would be nice if we could buy at least a portion of the cars!

For each car bought, an amount must also be reserved to keep the car in acceptable condition for a certain period of time. The foundation would also have to keep on collecting money by for example sales of posters and other items that can help maintain the cars value. Depending on the money collected and the price of the cars, a number of cars would be bought to be preserved for the future, owned and managed by the foundation. Perhaps maintenance performed by private volunteers.

I have talked about the idea with the Saab Museum management and as Paul Åkerlund states, no doors must be closed at the moment!

Now my question to you!

is this a good idea? YES or NO? if so why!

9-5 SportsCombi sighted

September 23, 2011 in News, test drive, Uncategorized

Jörgen Trued was out driving from MapTun to his home today when he sighted this beautiful thing!
-Hey here I am Jörgen editing Tims post.
A Super Saab day for me first a great meeting strictly professionally at SAAB Technologies in Linköping. Meeting that was interrupted by SAAB 39 Gripen starting on the Saab Field runways. I guess some of You know that Tim and I have something in common, airplanes and aviation. Picked up some Saab stuff in the company gift store.
Then on the way back home i picked up Saab stuff what else. Freshly painted wheels and plastic stuff for the SaabsUnited Historic Rally Team “Secret” OctoberFest event racer… (Hint: white color as been used)

The to a junkyard and putting in a complet SAAB 99 TURBO B-Engine with gearbox right smack into the cavernous rear of my 9-3 TurboX SC. Then on to our great friends at MapTun to pick up some interesting tubing.

5 min later the Java brown 9-5 NG SC on the road. A cellphone conversation with my favorite SAAB dealer WAFAB in Karlstad. But that is an even more closely held secret that could be revealed next weekend.
All in all it is now time to relax for a day in the archipelago of Stockholm. Then down in the Sundbyberg City Saab Factory dungeons to make more of our favorite Saab 99´s

Museum Rescue Action taking place!

September 23, 2011 in News

TTELA (original article here):

The city of Trollhättan and Innovatum continues to work on a plan to save the Saab Museum.
- Even if the reconstruction is successful it is clear that we need to think about a way to lift the museum out from Saab so that a similar situation may not occur again, said city council board-chairman Paul Åkerlund.

Just like many others he has strong feelings about the actions of the Swedish Enforcement Agency (Kronofogden).
- Yes, both as a citizen of Trollhättan and ex Saab-employee this feels very sad. The museum contains our industrial-history.

Does Volvo need SPA?

September 22, 2011 in Editorial

I know some of you will want to kill me, and others won’t talk to me for months, but does Volvo really need to develop its SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) when something similar is being developed 70 km away?

Volvo’s big cars, the S80 and V70 are based on Fords CD platform, their smaller cars, C30, S40, V50 S60, V60, XC60 are based on Fords C platform. Volvo was in charge of the CD platform, and Ford was in charge of the C platform.

This just pisses me off!

September 22, 2011 in SAAB Automobile AB

Our dear friend Swade just wrote a post that the Swedish debt collection agency “Kronofogden” paying a visit to the Saab Car Museum and it truly pisses me off that they made it that far! I was really hoping that they would not touch something that has such a high historical value compared to its financial value!… this is kind of like stealing the mona lisa from Paris…

“Utmätt Gods translates to ‘goods sequestered for debt’ and the little stickers were applied to the collection by Kronofogden, the debt enforcement agency here in Sweden. As you can see below, the 9-X Air has one. The Sonett and Aero X both have one, too. Even UrSaab has one.”

I was in talks with several clubs and people about starting a foundation to raise money in order to buy these cars so that they would be safeguarded for the future. The clubs I talked, showed extremely little interest I’m afraid. If anyone is interested in helping out to do this now I am all for it!
