The package has been sent

November 11, 2011 in News

We have learned first hand information that the briefing package requested by GM has been sent out by Saab’s potential Chinese owners explaining exactly what they are requesting, what they want to do with Saab and how they intend to do it.

Negotiations about the ownership status is still on-going.

  1. Fingers are crossed… ;-)

  2. An Omen – was just watching an old episode of Top Gear,
and the car of the show was Spyker…..
    A sign ?

  3. Fingers crossed – but equally, CONVOY stickers are dusted down and ready!!! Remember back in 2010 when Saab needed us – well I think GM need a little reminder on how the Saab spirit is very much still alive & kicking! If you recall the convoys that we had for Saab – you may also recall that when GM decided to kill Pontiac no-one was interested at all. The voice of the enthusiast is stronger than a lot of people think!

    • As long as we don’t know what the proposal is, it doesn’t make much sense to start an Occupy GM movement.
As much as I dislike what GM stands for I kind of sympathize with them as far as unintentional transfer of IP to China goes. There were very reasonable GM stipulations in the 2009 Saab sales contract. The only unreasonable demand was to keep Antonov out of Saab, this was rectified by GM when he was cleared from all wrong doing. The remainder of the requirements just protects GM IP (Saab inventions under GM ownership are still GM property) and market share.

  4. Crossing my fingers, holding my breath, thinking positive thoughts, and anything else I can think of to help this go well!

  5. Still breathing, keeping all fingers crossed for a good solution… for SAAB!

  6. I think we can safely say that if the worst happens it is most definitely not GM’s fault. I just hope that something positive comes of this in the next few days.

  7. As the 20 year owner of Saab, GM completely created today’s Saab situation, both its good and bad parts. I am not sure why today’s situation would be at all surprising to GM, given that it is exactly the situation they created. Obviously they continue to have little clue other than how to build 10-year old truck technology (still quite good BTW). I admire GM but they certainly have done many things extremely poorly. They have a chance here to avoid slaughtering Saab. I hope they have mercy on the modest and worthy Saab brand.

  8. deep breath…..OK, it’s now official, I dread coming to SU, afraid of what the news may be.

  9. Me too. I am worried for all those good people and the excellent brand. cannot see where good news can come from now. for me it was GM that could have nurtured Saab but they didn’t know what they had so it floundered and failed.
I sold a Black 900 Aero today, maybe I should have kept it.

  10. That`s the sort of positive news we need to hear – let`s hope GM study the package over the weekend and come to a positive decision.
And just think, if the EIB hadn`t had this childish dislike of VA, perhaps SAAB could have been in production weeks ago??

  11. I’m just waiting for good news.

  12. Saab doesn’t need Epsilon platform in the future. GM must hold guarantee for current customers and if it doesn’t like to lose money so GM will will will goes on in conversation Saab togheter …

    VM up, Saab Up.

  13. I wonder how GM Europe / Adam Opel play their cards in this situation and what the NDRC do to put preassure on the deal, swe gov n embassy in china must be informed, n use their diplomatic channels. To liquidate SWAN is a strange move at this point, but I guess there are more than one fat lady out there. Just saw CNN this morning, where USA foreign secretary Hillary Clinton confirmed on location in Hawaii, that US commercial and strategic partnerships will focus on asia-pacific. Maybe GMs Chinese connection is way more important than we previously thought.

    • Re; Maybe GMs Chinese connection……..

You are right of course, but we in the Western world will live to regret the high dependency on China to supply cheaper products to the West, then we can make ourselves.

The corporate world, the West has created, only serves the upper crust of investors.

In less than 10-15 years we in the West will see no manufacturing whatsoever, just relying on the East, with many, many Westerners simply unable to get work…

  14. As long as everybody is talking, there is hope. Griffen up!

  15. GRIFFIN UP
    SAAB UP

Fingers crossed for the BEST. I have convoy stickers and “SAVE SAAB” signs ready if the worst would happen!!!!!
