200 People employed by “Saab” in Trollhättan
December 23, 2011 in News
P4 West reports about a company called Combitech which immediately after Saab Automobile AB’s bankruptcy was a fact decided to start up a research and development center in Trollhättan. 200 of the engineers can be employed right away!
Combitech is a technology-consultant company within SAAB AB, the defense company which decided on their own to start a development center in Trollhättan.
Recruitment is underway already and many are expected to show interest. The new center will work with the Saab Group’s high-tech products but also external contracts within the industry.
Only a few hours after the add was placed when the first Saab-engieer showed interest.
- Many have shown interest both from Trollhättan and other places in the country according to Per Salander, responsible for recruitment.
- It is of course positive that they place business in Trollhättan and that our engineers can look for a job there, say Per Bränneby, chairman of “Swedens Engineers” at Saab Automobile to the Gothenburg Post.
- Volvo PV has employed about 40 engineers from Saab and plan to employ about 100 more say Per-Åke Fröberg, spokesman at Volvo.

This is good news as they can get a paycheck. But I hope it’s only a temporary holding pattern for our people to come back.

Fingers crossed for Combitech to keep the door open for engineers fron Saab to work for or be re-hired by Saab Automobile so as to make it possible for a new owner to restart development and production at Saab Automobile.

+1; the more former employees can get a steady job around there, the better for them.

Good for them, and the region. Not so good for Saab automobile if they were to re-emerge.

Then Saab is well and truly doomed. Without key engineers, there is no way Youngman will be able to restart production at the current facility. If Youngman’s genuine intention is to attempt to buy the whole of Saab and continue with the Phoenix platform, then they had better express their intentions to the media immediately and very clearly, no more vague hints.

I’m sure their are plenty of engineers out there that could fill the positions.
JohnDarrenwood said on December 23, 2011
Sure, but engineers aren’t ‘plug and play’. There is also the hiring costs and the learning curve. I’m sure not everything is going to be written down either, there will be a few key individuals who have critical knowledge required to get production going again quickly.

And the longer this process goes on and YM or any other suitor draws this out, the less that will be left to rebuild…

Good for the people, bad for Saab if any plan of re-starting Saab exists. As someone said, YM or any other interested parties must express their interest in the media or else Saab is soon lost forever. Even Saabsunited must help in keeping the hope up. There was an article on di.se describing interest from Magna a couple of days ago for example. No word on that here on Saabsunited..

Better idea: SAAB AB buys SAAB and wow a great SAAB!

Why should they buy back to company the sold in 1990, almost 22 years ago? If Saabs car division was enough profitable they would never sold it in the first place. Common logic.

Men are flexible; just let the company survive again and this will attract the right people again.
The former employees who find another opportunity in the mean time are doing the right thing; see that their own future and that of their families is secured.
What would we do in a situation like this; exactly the same.
And what just has been said before; Combitech,Saab AB can be an excellent development centre for future Saab.

SAAB Combitech has nothing to do with SAAB cars.
“Combitech is one of Swedens leading technology, development and management consultancy companies. By combining technology with environmental and security awareness, we offer our customers unique and effective solutions. ”
I bet those 200 employed at Combitech will find there own future in that company, and I’m in serious doubt they should return to the shaky SAAB cars owned by a Chinese company … would you?
hmmm … “SAAB” cars … I bet the owners of the name “SAAB” won’t let the Chinese use that name on any “made in China car” !

Shaky… not if like a billion USD is invested by the Chinese. And, re. the continued use of the SAAB name, maybe that’s why the Chinese have let it be known that their intention is to keep building cars in Sweden. That is -in case you didn’t know that; most Saab-minded people do- the condition under which Saab Aeronautic may be willing to license the use of that name.
By the way, it’s a pity that your holiday from SU didn’t alleviate your negative outlook on everything Saab.

Just to remind everybody, the consulting firm Ricardo hired many of the out-of-work former MG Rover engineers after the latter collapsed, and formed a development centre called “Ricardo 2010″. The latter was later contracted to do work for SAIC and eventually purchased to become “SAIC Motor Uk Technical Centre Ltd”, effectively the development centre for Roewe/MG Cars.
I personally believe it would be great if Saab AB and Youngman found ways to cooperate on designing and building cars in Trollhattan.

This could be shrewed tactical move by Saab AB, to prevent or help stop leakage of engineers. before the final fate is decided.

Merry Christmas, auto.qq.com said that Dongfeng, the third largest auto group in China, is ready to purchase saab’s assents, can anybody know this progress?
mnztr said on December 25, 2011
To me this is people leaving SAAB, and honestly, after the year they have been put through, I doubt they will go back. Also, the fact that a SAAB AB subsidiary is hiring ex SAAB staff makes me question if they will license the name to an new automaker. I think it is GREAT for those who get a job, but skilled engineers can normally get good jobs. The people on the production line who’s skills are tied to the factory, it is those people I worry about. I so hope I am wrong, and I hope the SAAB name survives.

I wonder why Magna does not buy them so they can get involved in total vehicle development and experiment with these whole process. It would be a great technology incubator and could dramatically extend the value chain of Magna… without taking on as huge a company as Chrysler or Opel which is very daunting.
