SAAB has changed the slogan

This is a short one.

Many of you do still discuss if Move your mind is a good slogan for Saab or not, other have noticed, that it is really difficult to find it on any Saab site or on any current electronic price-list or catalogue, there are still some older price list for MY11 cars were you can see the slogan.

As I also was curious about that, and to avoid fruitless discussions, I’ve asked at Saab what is the current situation of the slogan. The answer was short and precise.

Move your mind is no longer the slogan for Saab, currently Saab has no slogan at all, and a newer slogan will be rolled out when they can start a proper ad campaign for that.

Till then Saab doesn’t move your mind or isn’t born from jets or anything else. It would be interesting to hear what YOU think that a good slogan for SAAB could be.

Given the current circumstances I think I would use the below Nietzsche quote:

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star”

Or reuse that old thing that spawned from Hassan i Sabbah, even though it has been taken over by Assasins Creed and Ibanez Guitars:

“Nothing is true, Everything is permitted”

Or just save a little letters and use:

“Move”

On a different note and another reuse:

“Born to be Alive”.

None of the above to be taken seriously..Honestly.. 😉

“Spirit of Independence” or “The Courage to be Different ” – anything like this ?

How many of you out there in the big wide world were selling Saabs in the 70’s when the slogan was “Go Swift Go Safe Go Saab. Also would be interested to know how many of you remember the Saab Olympic Games in LA back in 1984 when at the end of a year long sales competition we all head to the USA for a great trip.

If Saab survive then it has nine live. We alla know that Saab is a safe car so maybe this:

Saab – the car that gives you 9 lives.

as a saab dealer this is not worth a discussion, first things first , without SAAB you don’t need slogans so don’t put energy in this , put energy in hoping that SAAB will survive, it is again a very crucial weekend where solutions are very quickly needed. Come on SAAB .

We are all focussed on survival, but SU is right to encourage fun discussions too, think of it as light relief for those whose nerves are frayed. I’m sure you didn’t mean to poo-poo it, the community is all behind you and your colleagues but allow us a break too?

Considering that the germans have stuff like “Vorsprung druch technic” and “Das Auto”, Saab should have a slogan in swedish.

Isn’t that just copying the others.

That’s where the GM years of 9.3 [3 series BM] & 9.5 [5 series BM] came from.

Thought we were mean’t to have a higher degree of imagination & understanding, being that we drive Saab cars.

These are all tongue-in-cheek.

‘Reborn from crooks’
‘Move your targets’
‘Out of our minds’
‘Ejected again’
‘Life supported’
‘Griffin up’

On a serious note good luck to all the negotiators this weekend.

“Move your mind” was a very, very good and sophisticated claim: More layers of meaning then words!!! Amazing. I don’t understand why they have moved their minds away from that… – unless they have an even more intelligent ready…

“We don’t make compromises – We make Saabs”

That’s actually by far the best of the lot. it implies determination, quality, intelligence, ability, and perhaps most important of all, pride.

It’s saying to potential customers, “There’s a good reason why we fought so hard to survive.”

I commend this statement to the house.

I’m not going to comment on the above sattirical suggestions (too much “hitting below the belt” for my taste). But, “Griffin Up” is the best I have seen suggested so far but a bit too esoteric to attract new customers. Given there are plenty of us on the sidelines that have no control over the grueling negotiations and contract writing, we need to stay united. Oddly enough, in the last few weeks it occurred to me that now is a better time than any to discuss a new slogan. Something that expresses Saabs and SU member’s fighting spirit. So, I… Read more »

Of all the suggestions I think this is the only one that might capture consumer attention. It’s a massive meme it’s own right, but it also truly encapsulates the Saab spirit, particularly recently. It would work as a short term campaign once the future is secured, but probably not as a brand message longer term. I say this as someone who works in the ad business. People would enjoy the message.

You know I actually liked the one given for the Phoenix “Hello Earth”. It gives the impression that SAABS came from somewhere else being technologically advanced, and at the same time earth friendly. In addition, the greeting serves as a comeback.

So I would say “SAAB – Hello Earth”

ok for me this is one of the key things Saab AB have got wrong for year. The marketing needs to be right for each market. Just because it works in Sweden does not mean it will work everywhere, the last TV adverts wee awful for the UK more like Ikea ads. A new line will be needed but should be well though out.

Localized advertising under a universal general theme is important. There is the classic case of the GM Chevy Nova, which sold well outside of Spanish speaking countries. Unfortunately no one had looked at the meaning of Nova in Spanish … It means “No Go”

Hmmmm….my first instinct is to go without a tagline. Even WHEN Saab emerges from this, they should craft their advertising for each model—-and at least for North America, they need to focus on value, reliability/dependability, maybe safety—-and lose the comparisions to BWM for performance (and price). If I’m pushed to give an idea for a slogan, how about “Swedish Sensibility” I suggest that because after the sale to the Chinese—-I think it will be important to still position this brand as committed to their Swedish/European roots. The “Sensibility” part is to promote safety, value and dependability over the other virtues—-we… Read more »

I’ve been surprised that new ownership of Volvo and Jaguar (China and India) have not had an impact on sales in the US. That said, in a recession partially blamed on American production jobs moving to lower cost overseas factories, particularly in Asia, Saab will have to be very careful with a positioning that that underscores foreign production.

Saab doesn’t need a motto or claim. That’s a stupidity that comes from big US companies who have many people in a desperate attempt to justify their employment, specially those in the “creative” departments…. Saab is Saab and it stands for its name, there’s nothing else to add. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam's_razor

We need to ask ourselves individually and collectively why we are SAABists. For me it is the two 9 3s that gave up their lives for me and my family, as well as the ergonomics of the seats (also safety engineering here) and the arrangement and ease of use and understanding of the cockpit/controls. Just for example, the air directors via joystick are one thing I miss in other vehicles–the SAAB accomplishes it all with one easy to understand motion with immediate feedback like no other vehicle. Personally i would like to see Saab capture automotive (core) values in the tagline rather than art and feel. However i can understand that as well.I also think the commercials should be about THE cars and not art. I love the old Saab AND volvo commercials with the car in focus and a story telling voice. This must happen with the NG 9-3 to make it stand out. I also like the idea of having a swedish word. Japanese company Pioneer did that with their plasma line and named it “Kuro”. In japanese that means “blackness” which was what their plasma… Read more »

“SAAB – Dare to be different”. Although I think some other company may have used this tag line before, for me it captures the idea of SAAB’s uniqueness (some would call it or “quirkyness”), and may speak to those who own (or are thinking of buying) an Audi or BMW but don’t want to see themselves coming and going every time they get on the road. It also has an air of confidence or challenge that typifies the SAAB spirit.

Saab cars and drivers have been called a little different … quirky if you will. Saab drivers are intelligent … attorneys, doctors, engineers, professors … certainly well educated. Marketing 101 says it is important to differentiate a product from the competition. I’ll think back to an esteemed American poet who might come up with the following … “SAAB – THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED” And the ad might show a Saab and its driver at an intersection contemplating alternative routes to the city. Turning left brings him to an Expressway on ramp to the city in the distance, where the posted… Read more »

I believe Herman Cain just suspended his U.S. Presidential Candidacy and his absurd “9 * 9 * 9” campaign slogan … But make it “The Power of 10″ 10 years / 100,000 mile warranty”, and I’m listening. This is what put Hyundai and and Kia on the map in the U.S.

Yes, we Americans love a good value. And back in the day it was 7/70 that kept Chrysler sales going. Thing with 9/99999 is you get imagery with the product line, 9-3, 9-3x, 9-4x,9-5. Majority people in US drive 12k a year people hit the mileage cap first whether 9 or 10 years is the threshold. But you could just make it a 99,999 policy regardless of years so it doesn’t matter when you hit the milage. That would drive up used vales for sure. 33,333 is zero maintenance free wiper blades, washer fluid etc 66,666 is everything other than… Read more »

Now that makes sense … 33,333 / 66,666 / 99,999,

Bottom line is warranty works in convincing a customer of quality, and with Saab being out of sight / out of mind, the customer will have to be convinced of a lot.

Hyundai & Kia show the power of big warranty claims.
