December 8, 2011 in MapTun, SaabsUnited Related
SaabsUnited is proud to be the launch customer of a brand new product from MapTun that is absolutely amazing! This is a brand new sports-steeringwheel which seriously rivals anything else on the market, is a really great product that I absolutely love!.
SaabsUnited are exclusively offering the first 10 of these steering-wheels to our readers only!
When I tried the steering wheel two days a go I was amazed by the grip, having tried all other sports-steeringwheels from Saab and other manufacturers, I can tell you that this one is at least as good. The grip and feeling of quality really struck me as something that could just as well have been a genuine Saab product! I have ordered mine and I’m very eager to get it and be able to show it to all of you when it is installed and in action!
These steering wheels are available for the following models:
- SAAB 9-5 Year Model 1998 – 2010
- SAAB 9-3 Year Model 1998 – 2002
- Saab 9-3 Year Model 2003 – 2011
- Saab 9000 *NEW
The price is 4995 SEK with VAT included (which is about €550 or $750). If you send your old steering wheel back to MapTun after installing the new one, you will get a 500 SEK discount.

I like that! Too bad I haven’t got the ability to acquire one of those in a near future, I truly hope that these custom steering wheels will be accessible also in a few years from now.
Speaking of steering wheels, here is a Hirsch version:

Don’t forget that the Steering wheel to the old 9-3 1998-2003 also fits the 900 – 1998 yearmodel!
Marque said on December 8, 2011
Unfortunately not completely; you have to replace the upper half steering column too, being the 9-3′s stub different from that of ng900.
DanSaab said on December 8, 2011
No, the 9-3 1998 has exactly the same stub as the NG900 1998 therefore the same steering wheel.
Marque said on December 8, 2011
Sorry, didn’t read your first one properly.. I read it as “it fits 900 1994-1998″, But oviously you just said it right.
DanSaab said on December 8, 2011
It’s the 900 1995-1997 that has the other stub that won’t fit the newer steering wheel
Saab_Lurker said on December 8, 2011
It’s interesting that the 9-5 wheel fits 2010 models, but not 2011 models.
TimR said on December 8, 2011
The 2010 9-5 mentioned here is only the first generation 9-5 which was built until feb 2010. Not the new 9-5 Sedan.
Marque said on December 8, 2011
Guys that’s great. A but too pricey for me though, I can’t jump at it right now (but surely added to my “waiting list”, which currently runs to around $5000 for my ’00 9-3 auto, while Viggen interior-exterior, and Abbot stg.2 (240bhp) have been raked up already
OliverH said on December 8, 2011
Does it have/ need any approvals?
Marque said on December 8, 2011
And for you who really wanna go nuts streeringwheel-wise, you should check out the carbon fiber version. But for that money, it is really up to the crackerjacks out there. (The price nearly reaches one grand euros and it’s made by some great guys at a German tuning shop.)
GerritN said on December 8, 2011
Wow, they’re not sold out yet?
TimR said on December 8, 2011
We have received 5 orders which I think is absolutely amazing considering that they have only been available for 2,5 hours…
GerritN said on December 8, 2011
and $750 a piece
TimR said on December 8, 2011
I think its a great product, considering that Saab and Hirsch charges about the same this one is well worth the buy! =)
GerritN said on December 9, 2011
Yeah, but the Saab steering wheel comes with the car, at no extra cost.
04aerocombi said on December 8, 2011
That looks fantastic, would love to see what the carbon fiber variant looks like. Might have to consider picking one up on my visit to Sweden in June…
Marque said on December 8, 2011
Just dropped you the link via private messaging (it’s worth to see anyway) – but I was not allowed to post it here, at least my comment got deleted.
StateofNine said on December 8, 2011
Add some of these to our next container…
edusaab said on December 8, 2011
but the problem with the Hirsch one is that is only offered for MY2006-on versions. Also Abbott Racing offers something similar, totally customized, but I don’t know the price.
Wait a little bit because I was waiting for this, check my previuos comments, I could be the 6th. I am talking with the dealer how much time it takes to them to change the steering, jejejejejeje

That’s pretty cool. You don’t see too many Saab tuners offering their own performance steering wheel.
TrollTuner said on December 8, 2011
Makes a nice improvement to the daily experience. Its not a mod you need open road to appreciate. I did some custom ones with special stitching etc years ago for my cars. http://www.trolltuner.com/img/VIggenWheel.jpg
Robert said on December 8, 2011
Any chance this might become available for the 2011 NG 9-5 Aero? Standard steering wheel is not too comfortable during a drive for a longer period.
Rune said on December 9, 2011
Robert, what makes the standard steering wheel not comfy for you?
On longer drives there are usually long stretches of roads where I can simply rest my hands in my lap. The car is possible to steer using only a finger.
dcpattie said on December 9, 2011
the 3-spoke looks just like the one offered by Hirsch.
TimR said on December 9, 2011
Does it? http://www.hirsch-performance.ch/getAttachment.aspx?attaName=b217704f-2d15-46f3-b74a-1be5c4108ba9

Pleeeeeeease make one for the 9000s!!!
TimR said on December 9, 2011
