Update regarding the museum

January 24, 2012 in News

There are higher bids for the museum than that placed by the city of Trollhättan. These words are among the first one can read in an article published this morning by Trollhättan’s local newspaper TTELA.

The city of Trollhättan, with the aid of the regional government have placed a bid for the complete collection of cars in the Saab Cars Museum. Today it was revealed that this bid is not high enough. Even higher bids for the complete collection have been placed.

From the regions point of view, the politicians are ready to support the running of the museum with 1,5 million SEK, in case the bid from the city of Trollhättan were to win. The national governments culture-department is in favor of the local governments financial support, however are not willing to take any measures to preserve the museum.

- If the collection is owned by the state it could happen, but its not something that we are considering say Karolin A Johansson, press secretary to minister of Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.

Two local politicians, Peter Johansson and Penilla Gunther have both put pressure on the minister of culture regarding the museum, they are supposed to get their answer today.

The national museum in Stockholm are also one party who have said to have interest in the future of the museum, they however state to TTELA that they do not have the financial means to bid for the whole collection they do however want to keep it together, anything else would be unfortunate, say Lena Munther, head of communication at the national-museum.

  1. “The national governments culture-department is in favor of the local governments financial support, however are not willing to take any measures to preserve the museum.”

This is not surprising as the swedish government didn’t do anything in favour of Saab. Why should they change? I hope that the highest bidder will also keep the museum as it is today.

  2. I too hope the museum stays together.

  3. I also hope for the best!

But if the colletion would split up, how about sacrifising our old cars that looks nice and donate them to the museum to help them buld up it again?? If possible of course… :)

  4. What’s the bloody reason with a national department of culture if they won’t do anything!?

Saving skate ramps and other specific projects and supporting a technical museum in Stockholm – this is unacceptably bad behavior!

  5. someone with deep pockets appears to be planning for the future with saab…

  6. I can’t imagine whoever is outbidding the city of Trollhatten has anything but good intentions for the museum. Hope it’s someone who has the wherewithal to protect this treasure.

  7. I still find it difficult to understand why the City of Trollhattan, has not asked for any help with it’s bid [donations] Particularly when it has & is,being openly offered here on SU……..

Perhaps, they were just playing ‘lip service’. . . [UK slang = Bidding for it, because they thought they had too]

  8. This is Saabunited’s chance to help since many bidders probably read SU. I bid on a car. If I win, I am willing to loan the car to a city of Trollhattan museum.

Perhaps, they can amend their bid to say that they will buy the museum collection for SEK ____ (which is a losing bid) or SEK ____ (same amount) for all the cars except car number VM 1234
(bid of Mr. ___), VM 1234 (bid of Mr. ___), VM 1234 (bid of Ms. ____), etc.

The list of these “VM1234″ are people who write to SU and pledge to loan their cars to a new museum for at least 5 years, enough time for a new Saab to re-buy a few cars.

For example, individual bids might have been SEK 7 million, but the city’s bid might have been SEK 5 million (not real figures, just wild guesses). Say if several bidders of the Ursaab are willing to loan the car to the museum, the city could re-bid saying “we re-bid SEK 5 million” which excludes the Ursaab if that car is won by the following SU users”.

  9. Maybe the potential bidders for Saab: YM, BW or M&M have bid on the museum to position themselves for the final bid for the Saab company.
