Big Updates From Saab Parts North America

For those that attended the SOC in Iowa, you will know that Saab Parts North America was there and answering questions and handing out goodies. Today dealers and service centers received an email from Saab Parts North America with some very exciting news and some needed answers. Here are some of the key highlights to dealers from the attached file are below.

It’s been a busy summer at SPNA. We’ve been working hard on many fronts to improve the company and make it easier for you to do business with us.

Our network has increased with 20 new OSC’s in the last month. Our website is being actively updated with content and seeing weekly increases in traffic. Progress in the availability of parts is getting better by the day.

Some highlights of our parts sourcing activities are out- lined below:

      •   Allentown fill rate is at 80% and rising, up nearly 30% in 2 weeks.
      •   Sweden fill rate is at 90% and rising daily.
      •   Received $2M in air orders (10 shipments).
      •   Received $2M in sea shipments (14 containers).
      •   $7M in additional inventory is on order and in transit.
      •   More inventory is arriving daily.
      •   Many of the highest demand parts are now in stock.
      •   Very large order of body panels is scheduled to arrive in September, be sure to place your orders now!

Our network continues to grow. Since opening our doors for business on June 7th, we have signed up 179 OSC’s in the U.S. and Canada. All OSC’s are listed on our website and are searchable in the geo-locator function.

The Classic Parts and Wheel Reduction Sales are underway. Limited quantities remain. Parts are at up to 70% off and wheels at up to 40% off.  Customers interested in purchasing parts for their Classic Saabs are being directed to visit their local OSC to place orders; we encourage you to use the oppor- tunity to connect with old and new customers.

Hirsch is coming to the website. Information about the company, their relationship with Saab and available performance packages will be posted in the coming days.

The parts below were on back order last week. The back orders have all been filled and the parts are available as of August 14th.

This is great news and welcomed by all of us in the Saab community. When I received this email this morning, I sent an email to Tim Colbeck to make sure it was okay for me to share it with everyone and he was eager to get the information out there. I can’t say enough about the commitment that he has shown the brand and dealers as well as the Saab owners. He has never been hard to get a hold of even at the worst of times he has been incredible and has always wanted to help in rebuilding. Today we can see that this is happening  and things are getting better in regards to Saab Parts.

One thing covered in here that you should take note of is the Classic Parts Sale that is going on as we speak with some savings up to 70% off. There is a price list attached on the Saab.com site as well.

Another big positive in all of this is that Hirsch is coming back and going to be better integrated into the dealer/service body which had become complicated to say the least.

Thank you to the Saab Parts North America team for all you do and a special thanks to Tim Colbeck for being exactly what we need to see us into the future.

My dealer called me last week to tell me Saab Parts had a meeting with them and told me ” we have great confidence in parts availability”…. this further helped our decision to buy our 4th Saab… and we still have all of them!

Well, if you have a NG 9-5 and your middle tail light goes out guess what…I purchased the last one in North America…for a whopping $500 (plus labor). Oh please don’t quit on NG 9-5 parts.

I’ve bought two parts for the NG 9-5 that were also each labeled the “last one in North America.” As a result, I’m not sure that is the case … I think it may be a function of the inventory system. Or “was”, if they’ve got things humming again now. Great news, Jason…thanks.

Long live NG 9-5 and 9-4X parts! (please)

I purchased OEM ones from Saab of Memphis earlier this year. They are sitting in my garage until I need them. Believe they are in Saab packaging, but could be GM. I’d have to take another look.

I don’t remember the brand but I got a set for my ’11 9-5T4 at Pep Boys for half the price (after rebate) as OEM. They look exactly the same!

im going to be upgrading my 9-3 from 04 with my friend and had no trouble finding parts from amazon.com. you got to love free shipping on heavy parts.
Hello new rotors(front with back) , brake pads(front and back too) new spark plugs, air filter, sway bar links (two of them).Hurray for amazon store and ebay too.

There’s soo much parts to SAABs availabile since it is GM(sad) product so no problem here in U.S.

Good news, thank you. Now let’s have a service center in West Texas and also New Mexico.

Just a thought.

My shop told me that a couple of repairable SAABs were written off as totaled by insurance companies because parts were not available (at the time). It is great to see that parts are flowing again. Thanks for the update.

Still cannot get a answer when I will be able to get a windsheild for my 2011 9-5 NG. I’m told maybe October, but they say that is just a guess. Is SPNA going to ask St Gobain to start to produce these? Because they are not going to appear out of wishful thinking. Sooner or later someone needs to find a glass manufacturer to start making them, it is a bit frustrating to own a new car with cracked windsheild and have no clue when you may expect to find one. Don’t tell me Safelight auto glass either! HUD/Lane… Read more »

This is most definitely a huge concern for us 2010-11 9-5 owners. Have you emailed an inquiry at saab.com? Perhaps Jason Powell can get some more info for us from Mr. Colbeck himself.

Safelight does not have HUD/Lane departure/Rain Sense … only lane departure/rain sense, which leaves the HUD display readable, but the tiniest bit out of focus.

Yet another reason to do away with this garbage on auto glass—-ridiculous replacement costs. If someone’s vision is good enough to have a driver’s license, it’s also good enough to see raindrops—-and find the switch to turn the wipers on. More gadgets. More to go wrong. More fleeced from our wallets.

I’m actually a big fan of HUD after driving my NG 9-5 (with HUD) for over 21K miles. Didn’t think I would be, didn’t necessarily go looking for it when I bought the car in Dec 10, but very glad I got one with it. It’s been working error-free the whole time and it keeps one’s eyes-on-the-road…obviuosly a huge safety plus. Navigation is tied into it as well, so I don’t have to turn my eyes to the nav system to look for my next turn. It displays it right there in the HUD. And it’s got a kick-ass startup… Read more »

Yes. …and since the turn-by-turn navigation pops up in the HUD, there is no longer any need to keep the navigation voice turned on. Makes it much more convenient for longer stretches of driving listening to my favorite playlist.

I never need to mess with my windsheild switc, the auto wiper works great, HUD works great never have to look down through steering wheel, and the lane departure is also nice and keeps you alert!

Yes, maybe I need to get into the 21st Century. I can remember when BMW refused to put cupholders in their cars because “Cars are to made to drive and drivers shouldn’t be fumbling with beverages.” As soon as their owners started speaking up and threatening to buy a Mercedes, things changed rather quickly at BMW. I guess my point is that there’s a cost/benefit in some of the new tech that I think leans toward cost and not benefit. Wipers that turn themselves on when it starts to rain? Really, that would be at or near the bottom of… Read more »

Well, Angelo if you lived in a region where it rains off and on many times a day for 9 months out of the year, you may appreciate the rain sensing wipers a bit more.

Same here, I also have no need of excess gadgetry. Heck, I have cars here that are not even equipped with electric wipers, let alone rain sensing!

When I look at a car I try to visualize what it’s going to be like in 10 or 15 years with 150,000 to 200,000 miles on it, and most of this Jetsons-type stuff to me just looks like enormously expensive repair bills.

Would love to hear about the unveiling of a warranty program for us 2010-11 owners. There are so many aftermarket ones out there, but nothing in North America sanctioned (or subsidized) by Saab Parts.

Did I read “Hirsch” is going to be coming back to dealers? Does that include the possibility of Stage I upgrades for my 2011 9-5 T4 Premium? One can only hope!

Jason: great news! However, the OSC search function on the SPNA website is useless. When I enter my location (Ottawa), It simply tells me that there is no OSC here, but not where the nearest one is. A simple list of all OSC’s in Canada would be much more useful – especially when travelling. Any chance you could ask SPNA to provide one?

Good work Neil. Not sure how you did it. When I searched the geo-locator for OSC’s in Ottawa it said there wasn’t one!

Jason: a further thought in addition to my previous comments. So far I have been able to locate 5 of the 13 OSC’s in Canada – all of them former SAAB dealers. (I have no idea where the other 8 are). It would be great if, at some point in the future, SPNA would consider giving OSC status to some of the excellent independent SAAB specialist shops around that exist across the country. This is especially important in a country as large as Canada where there are huge areas with no authorized SAAB service centres.

On a different note, the ” dock” cars from Newark are starting to show up on Ebay Motors.
