SAABSUNITED Frames Are Arriving

Today I got an email from a friend and Saab Club Of Western Canada’s president, Ken Kuo. This morning he received in the mail his SAABSUNITED North American plate frame. I’ve trying to follow up with people to see the turnaround time for deliveries and hope that means that most are starting to arrive.

The orders were sent out on Tuesday morning, so the turnaround is not too bad. Makes me happy to see the frames out in the wild and where they should be.

These frames to me symbolize more than just a website name. They really to me state what you all see when out in your cars. In the email I received from Ken today, he told me about a recent outing in which he pulled into the grocery store parking lot and noticed a black 9-7X with 20 inch rims parked in the lot and was disappointed that time did not allow him to wait for the owner. That’s what SAABSUNITED means to me. It’s an ownership group of many SAAB owners who are united by their cars and an enjoyment in meeting other SAAB owners. You don’t find this with other car brands. If I am in my 20’s (which I wish I still were) and driving a 2003 BMW do you think the guy in the new 2012 5 series would stop to talk to me or even be interested in my old BMW? No, I don’t think so. It doesn’t matter what Saab year or model you drive or your age for that matter, you will always be united with other SAAB owners. This is also why I like that the new plate frames say SAABSUNITED and does not have the .com at the end. This is more like a statement or movement rather then just a website plate frame.

That may be overly simplistic but it is what I see everyday in comments on the SU posts and what I have seen in person too many times to count. SAAB people are united. I thoroughly enjoy seeing people interact in the comments on SU and within Facebook groups, it is like an extended family and as much as people like to from time to time single out a writer and thank them for what they do, I think the community as a whole needs to be commended for what they do or more so what they are. You are all the reason why people like me do what we do and believe in such a group of people as yourselves and have a deep hope for the future.

If you would like to order a North American plate frame like what you see above, we still have lots available in the store at the bottom of the page. Cost is $15 including shipping, just click the buy now button and your order is placed.

^ Wow, niiiiice SportCombi !!! 😉

I’m no ‘president’ per se, just the founder. Dunno if I could trust my club to democratically vote for me as prez, LOL 😀

Thx for the frame, Jason.

PS: the rear frame is from Scanwest Autosport in Seattle, which I picked up here:

BTW, that was a 9-7X Aero I saw, quite rare, as we know, since it was introduced after the 4.2i and 5.3i. The Aero has the GM LS2 6.0L V8, rated at around 395 bhp and 400 lb-ft torque. Even with the 9-7X Aero’s 4-speed automatic (albeit heavy-duty in this application) transmission, it’s able to reach 60mph from 0 in < 6 seconds. That I believe qualifies it as the fastest *purely stock* Saab in terms of 0-60, faster than the Turbo X 6M or the 9-2X Aero 5M. That's why I wanted to stalk, er I mean, talk to… Read more »

Hey Ken, that car sure looks better than that last car you had. Any chance for a club meeting soon?

I need to check with Jason if he has anymore of those frames left. I have been dying to replace my old Dueck one.

Um, I hope you mean the Subie Legacy and not the 9000 😉

Just scheduled next meet, Nov. 24/Sat. Watch for the forum email notice. Hope to see you there.

Jason: I just put my order in. I have to say, I’m impressed that someone was wise to the new laws regarding hiding the various ” state name ” you are in ( I know in Canada, it’s not states.) Seeing as most states now forbid you covering up their name at the top of the plate. This new holder avoids that by placing the message at the bottom. Good design and no legal problems!

Jason, I have never owned a BMW car, but ride their motorcycles and find that owners of BMW bikes share a bond regardless of the model year they own or the age of the owner.. You may be correct that the same spirit does not exist in the BMW car realm, but this could be because BMW autos are relatively plentiful whereas their bikes are not. When I owned my first SAAB over four decades ago, owners would wave at each other as they passed on the road. There weren’t too many of us then, so a certain bond was… Read more »
