Major crash on the E4 in Sweden this morning
January 15, 2013 in News
This morning with heavy fog and very cold roads a major crash occurred on the E4 north of Ängelholm in southern Sweden. At least 1 person died and over 100 vehicles were involved. Rescue workers who were en-route to the scene of the accident said that they were overtaken by trucks who then became part of the crash…
People stepping out of the car described the road as being pure ice. The fact that the whole accident happened on a bridge in both directions make this accident even more scary.
While going through the photos from the news websites I could se that some of the cars were Saab’s… even though we drive great cars with good tires, it doesn’t hurt to slow down a bit and increase the distance to the car in front!…

That’s a truly bad 2-way crash. Hopefully the safety of our Swedish cars was able to protect a lot of drivers.
Recently I witnessed the aftermath of another bad crash, between a Volvo XC90 and an Opel Isignia; the Swedish car (and it’s driver) were clearly in ‘better’ shape after the accident.
Whatever car you drive, SLOW DOWN in icy conditions !

That looks absolutely awful. All the best for a quick and full recovery to those injured, and my sympathy to those who have lost loved ones.

Always pay special attention to bridges in cold weather.

Very sound advice, but it does sound like the fog was so thick that one would not have seen the bridge before on it.
There are many trucks involved, and yes they do often drive like maniacs. So one could be in a car and driving safely, and still be crushed by trucks…

With all the emphasis on safety in Sweden, you’d think the truck drivers would be more reasonable.

Whenever I am in foggy, rainy, or snowy conditions I always turn my rear fog lamps on. They are extremely bright and I do this out of curtousy for other drivers behind me. I notice other Saabs, Volvos, and some times BMWs here in the States do the same thing and it makes the road a lot safer. Every car should be equiped with these rear fog lights.

What an awful crash. Just after reading about a helicopter that went down in London this morning as well killing 2 people and injuring another 9. From what i’ve read one of the injured is in critical condition.
It’s truly awful when you hear of an incident which has caused fatalities.
My thoughts are with the victims and familys of both incidents.

There is no apostrophe in the plural “Saabs.”

I looked at the post again and there is an apostrophe there.

I’m in Askersund this week and I saw it on the news this morning while having breakfast… Truly sh*tty news…

As my wife says, “Even if you drive a Saab and you have great tires, it doesn’t keep the other car from hitting you.” This is similar to the accident caused by fog east of Houston, Texas before Thanksgiving this year with 2 deaths. Sad.

I’m glad to see that most of your comments reveal that you are good drivers. We also work our big share a big crashes like that. Here’s the latest one in Florida on Interstate 75.

I’m a Traffic Homicide Investigator and unfortunately, I see too many people die on the road.
