Many suppliers positive towards NEVS

January 12, 2013 in News

According to an article in P4 West. CEO of Plastal, former Saab development manager Martin Larsson tells DI that Plastal will work with a positive so that NEVS can be successful in their plans. He will not comment on payment credits or lead-times for production restart.

Another supplier, Autoliv, which previously have shown signs of hesitance now state that they will perform an analysis lasting for a period of three weeks to investigate the possibilities of restarting the supply chain. According to CEO Dan Pettersson, it shouldn’t be too big of a challenge.

  1. There is alot of solpeculation how Saab will sell and what the customers are willing to buy. Trying to get NEVS business plan for Saab is like laying a puzzle piece by piece, not knowing the full picture.
Some of these announcements, – looking at staring production, securing a big order, – contacting suppliers, sequring investments and foreign production… , not only making EVs, first sedan, then convertible and sportscombi-x.
    I wonder what comes next??

    • Add to that list: Hiring of 3 full time staff with purchase as speciality…. To me that seems like a decision of production is near. Deals with all suppliers needs to signed before planing the production I guess.

      • It’s pretty clear that NEVS is building a brand new efficient system with only 3 guys. Volvo has about 5-6 guys managing their purchase systems. Saab at a certain point had more than 20 managing less suppliers than Volvo…

    • It’ll be veeeery interesting to see what the 9-3 facelift will look like. That’ll be the big test for NEVS, to see if the customers accept their idea of design and functionality.

      • Tim: My criticisms of NEVS not withstanding—-I have a good feeling about the facelift in question. My gut tells me it’s going to be very strong. More than likely—-there will be a contingent of Saab loyalists who will find reasons to pan it—-but I think the majority will like it and more importantly—-I have a feeling new buyers will approve and that’s what actually matters right now. What evidence do I have? None. Call it a premonition.

        • Taste is probably the most difficult thing for an auto-brand… but I’ve found that things I felt very strong about are in the end most often open to compromise as things actually grown on you.

Also listening to designers and getting the reason why its made in a certain way makes me appreciate things even though I didn’t like em in the beginning…

          • New design from saab have historically been a “WHAT!” at firdt glance, and after a while I usually start to like it….
For me, that is a much better design than the opposite. Most car makers usually try to make us stunned at first glance, just to look bland or even old in just a year or two.

            • I absolutely agree with you… When I first saw the New 900 I thought that it looked like shit and after two years I was absolutely in love with it and honestly looking at new cars today I still feel that it looks ok design wise. With some new materials, better fittings it could be a good new car =)

              • Often, when you first see a design that doesn’t look right for some reason—-over time, it grows on you. Obviously, there are exceptions (Pontiac Aztec for example—-but that was so over the top ugly, it doesn’t belong in the discussion). A better example is the BMW “saddleback” or “hump trunk” design, which debuted in their 7 series—-in the early 2000s. I kept thinking, “It’ll grow on me.” But it never did. To this day—-it looks awkward to me—-a giant miss. And I like BMW. I own a 3 series. Saabs have generally looked better and better to me over time. My 9-5 wagaon—-I swear, to this day—-occasionally I still view it from an angle I haven’t noticed and like what I’m seeing.

            • I agree that is the essence of unconventional and daring design … what SAAB has always meant! I am optimistic, do we know who is in the design team for the facelift? Padian?

          • To my recollection, was there a face-lift of the 9-3 that was cancelled during the spyker era?!
Is that what is proposed to be made, w a new motor n gearbox, n some things replaced on the dash…
            Or will we see a 9-5 grill n headlights on a 9-3…

            • That must have been the 9-3 Griffin, and it wasn’t cancelled. Very few were built though before the production issues started.

      • Tim, do you refer to a facelift that will come on the EV1 or the ICE powered version which will (hopefully) enter production before that? I thought the latter would be the 9-3 Griffin, almost unchanged. Also, is it known if the new design team located in Trollhättan or somewhere else?

    • Negotiating ng9-5 licences with gm…

  2. I hope NEVS are grabbing the bull by the horns and will be unveiling some big plans soon. SAAB deserves to be resurrected with some serious vengence. I would love to see GM eat it!
