About

My name is Swade. I live in Tasmania, that triangular shaped island state to the south of the Australian mainland, which is about as far away from Sweden as you can get, incidentally.

I’ve been a Saab nut since the early 1990s, though I only got my first Saab in the late 90s. Since then I’ve owned the following:

1972 Saab 99E
1979 Saab 99 Turbo x 2
1986 Saab 900 Turbo
1994 Saab 9000 CS
1999 Saab 9-3 Viggen
1985 Saab 900 Aero 16V
1999 Saab 9-3 SE Monte Carlo

That’s seven cars, though it’s actually eight purchases. I liked one of the 99 Turbos so much that I bought it twice. I’ve sold it again now and I still miss that car so a third purchase might be a possibility!!

Publishing this website has given me an even bigger appreciation for the brand and I hope some of that can rub off on you as you visit here.

In June 2007 I was fortunate enough to go to Trollhattan for the 2007 Saab Festival, which celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the company. It was a briliant trip and I can highly recommend that anyone else do the same. Your knowledge of and love for the cars will be deepened, and aside from that it’s a beautiful city.

Enjoy your visit here and please do drop me a line if there’s anything you want to chat about.

Welcome to SaabsUnited.com

Hopefully, this site won’t be too new to many of you, even though it’s only been going since February 2009. Many of you will be familiar with Trollhattan Saab, and Saabs United is the continuation of the work that began at Trollhattan Saab. You can read more about that below.

Saabs United is a Saab based weblog that aims to cover every aspect of information related to Saab automobiles. Saabs are brilliant cars and both Trollhattan Saab and Saabs United are born out of the love of driving, and the love of driving Saabs.

Nothing’s out of bounds. Whether it be Saab-related news, vehicle reviews, history, people, photos, culture – you name it and there’ll be an article somewhere here about it.

The back story

SAABS UNITED is a new weblog, but an old one as well.

The first entry to the Trollhattan Saab website was on February 5, 2005. At that time, I didn’t know the first thing about organising a website. I just liked the freedom of expression that blogs represented, and I liked Saabs.

In the four years between then and the creation of Saabs United, Trollhattan Saab became on of the most visited and respected Saab-based websites on the internet, comprising around 5,400 articles and almost 50,000 comments from readers. We covered motor shows, festivals, new vehicles, old vehicles and notably, the stories of many Saab owners all around the world.

My own inexperience was apparent in the disorganised state of the TS website, however, which became increasingly difficult for both people and search engines to navigate.

Saabs United has been built in an attempt to overcome those limitations.

Trollhattan Saab will still exist online as an archive, however all new posts will be made at Saabs United. Many of the best articles from TS have been migrated here and the search function here at Saabs United also references TS articles, so you’re not missing out on anything.

I hope you enjoy Saabs United as much as you enjoyed Trollhattan Saab. I look forward to bringing you all the Saab news I can, and sharing your stories and images over the coming years. It’s going to be an exciting time for Saab, and for Saabs United as well.

Saabs United and Trollhattan Saab are not affiliated with Saab Automobile or Spyker Cars in any way. I’ve asked several times if they want to pay me to do this, but they continue to knock me back. So it’s a completely independant gig and the opinions expressed here are my own.

The site is produced by me, Swade, with contributions from several other authoris. If you’ve got anything you need to chat about then shoot me an email. I always try to link to a source so if I’ve used any material or imagery that you consider to be yours, without having linked to it properly, or if you just want it taken down, please let me know.

In the same spirit, all original material on this site is copyright owned 2005-present by me. If you’re going to use it then please ensure that you observe correct netiquette and hook me up with an appropriate link.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you come back again and again!

Cheers,

Swade
