Registering as a user of Saabs United is easy and it'll make your commenting and contributing experience at Saabs United a whole lot easier.

Registering for comments makes my life as a website administrator easier as registered commenters won't get caught in a spam queue. I'll also know I can trust your comments, meaning that I don't have to query borderline comments that come in for moderation.

Registering for comments should also make your life easier as once you've registered, you should only need to click the sign-in link and via the magic of cookies the system should recognise you and auto-fill your information.

Whilst many websites do require registration nowadays, registration for comments at Saabs United is not mandatory. You can still make comments as you used to by filling out the comments form, but registration is recommended.

So how do you do it? Easy.

At the beginning of the comment form there is a link inviting you to "Sign In"

Click that link and you'll be taken to a sign-in screen (see below).

On the right, there are several options for signing in. If you already have an account with Movable Type, OpenID, LiveJournal or Vox, then you can use your account details from those services to sign in here at Saabs United.

I may use your email from time to time to get in touch and clarify an issue you might raise in comments. This is not unusual. Comments at TS also required an email address, which was used only sparingly and never passed on to a third party without express permission.

TIP: When registering as a user here at Saabs United, it would be good to use the same name and email combination you used at Trollhattan Saab. If you had a Gravatar image accompanying your comments there, the gravatar software will pick that up and install you image with your comments just as it did there. If you want to use a different name and email combination, that's OK, but you may have to register that new combination with Gravatar to get your image to show on site.

As well as making your commenting experience easier now, Saabs United may expand to incorporate other services in the future. Your registration may enable your participation with those services at that time.

Is there any way to use an avatar without having to go through gravatar?

Somoene on wordpress has used my nickname I have been using for years and thus gravatar won't work for me (What on earth is Wordpress anyway?)

Hi all,

I'm new to the list. I'm a Saab Dealer in Belgium Europe for 2 years now.

Today I received an email from a german Saab Dealer I want to share.

He has set up a website
http://rescue-saab.com/en/index.html
Please have a look and register to support our beloved brand!

Cheers,
Chris

We just recently purchased a Turbo X here in California (manual), unfortunately it doesn't come wit the Navigation, Bluetooth, etc. We went to a dealer who has the Kenwood setup in his shop, but doesn't have the "face panel" (install kit), which would make the aftermarket product flush with the area where the stock system came. Anyone know where I can purchase the install kit (you may call it a face plate or something like that)?

BREAKING: Swedish TV reports Koenigsegg buying Saab

by John Neff on Jun 11th, 2009 at 11:32AM Breaking

We don't have much to go on yet, but Swedish television is reportedly claiming that Koenigsegg, makers of ultra high-performance exotic supercars, and a group of Norwegian investors have signed a letter of intent with Saab to take over the brand from General Motors. Final negotiations will reportedly take place in the coming months.....

Svt.se (public television in Sweden) is not *the* source for automotive news. Also, Saab officially claims talks are still going on with more than one prospective buyer. I'll guess the truth is somewhere in between. Koenigsegg/Ekers could be in it, but they are obviously not alone. I think we have to wait 2-3 hours more until Swade stops snoring and give us the facts.

And why the heck did our comments end up here...? :)

This is going to sound like a synopsis of the AP news article. But here are my thoughts. Without going into a tirade about what GM should or should not have done with Saab, I think making money with sales volumes averaging around 130K/yr (it slumped to 92K last year because of the poor economy) will test the ingenuity of the new parents of Saab Automobile. How exactly do you find a niche in the marketplace between upscale and mainstream? That has been Saab's trouble all along even back in the 80's when they were still independent. They symbolized a company for "smart" people who didn't want to stand out by driving Mercedes or BMW or (sorry?) Audi but wanted something to drive that was dignified and that upheld a discerning taste. Hopefully under the stewardship of their new owners the Saab brand can flourish. Hopefully more people will be willing to risk the cost of differentiating themselves from the masses of staid drivers. But can K-segg+Saab create a halo around Saab's future identity? One conceived with the premise of attracting first-time buyers as well as exciting long time afficionados. That's about all I have to say. Well besides the obvious, "Long live SAAB!!!"

Hi! I went to Coast Cadillac Saab in Sarasota fl.I asked about service for my 93 wagon.I was told by both sales & service that Nov 30 th ws there last day as a Saab dealer.I sent a email to Saab and no response yet. hope this helps You dean

wow! does this really work? wheres my gravatar?

2003 9-5 Aero. To drive a Saab is to love a Saab.

Never mind about the Gravatar thing.

It turns out the username is only a formality. It pulls the avatar icon based on the email address only.

Is it possible to determine the build sequence of my Turbo X SC from the Vin?

Its my understanding that some of you were given that information when you first picked up your vehicles. I'm curious where I fit in with the 600 that were built.

Thx,

FB_Wan

A very late Saab aficionado, I quickly came to love the quirky and intelligence of Saab. In seven years I have purchased, gifted, and traded four. My first Saab was my neighbor's 1997 900 S which later went to my son as a college graduation gift. I purchased a 2002 SE and traded it for a 9-5 Aero but missed the hatchback of the 2002 so I purchased a 2001 SE and drove it for two years. My son sold his 900 S and purchased my 2001 SE. Six months later I found a beautiful low mileage black 1998 900 S turbo coupe at my local dealer, International Saab of Falls Church VA. This car was in showroom condition and now it is even more treasured with the possible end of Saab. I know much is written about the GM weakening the brand but my two Saabs are wonderful automobiles and the company is worth saving. Save the jet born SAAB.

Strongly hope Saab will keep up

We are the proud owners of 2 Saabs, 01 9-3 Convertible and an 02 9-5 Arc Wagon. We like both cars alot and sincerely hope that GM will do the right thing by Saab and sell the brand rather than just shut it down.

I am a huge Saab fan, when I pass my test I WILL buy a Saab 900 turbo so i can join you guys at Saab rallies!
Its a tough time for us Saab fans and is not helped by GM who are not only dealing with a car brand but also people's feeling's and life's.
Sometimes I wonder if Ford owned Saab,I mean look at how they conducted the Volvo sale. Quickly, efficently and without fuss. Also Ford are allowing Geeley there technolgy for devlopment.
Sadly I can not give any new information about the sale because this website is the place I come for updates. Happily I can report that this site: saabsunited, is great and I love the atmosphere, everyone is being positive and like me love Saab.
GM do the right thing and sell Saab! Griffin Up!

I need to get this Gravatar thing figured out. Are there any tut's?

It worked! somehow I got it right. Excuse me, Steven, you can delete these comments whan you wish

Just info for all, I may have missed it but I had not seen any comments on the http://www.saabusa.com/website. It is now displaying pictures and info on the new 9-5. As a long time 9-5 owner I can only hope this is a good indication that Saab is still alive and will survive.

Abandoned by Saab? Hi all, my name is Francisco Rivera. I've been a Saab fan since I was a teenager. In July 08, 2008 I bought a brand new 2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T after trading in my 2006 Ford Fusion V6 SEL. Oh my God, I was so happy to finally have a Saab. Unfortunately, what a nightmare it has been.

Since the second week of having the car, the navigation system stopped working. The car has had a ton of problems since then. From the air conditioning unit not working, to HID lights burning off, to squeaky seats and brakes. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop there. The worst problems I have had are the car stalling twice while on the highway and having an intermittent problem with the car not wanting to start.

The car has been to the service center in many occasions because of the stalling and starting up problems. The first time the car went to the service department for the stalling and start up problem, I was told that the mechanics were not able to duplicate the problem. The second time they reprogrammed the computer. The third time they found that the fuel pressure regulator was not working adequately so they changed it. The fourth time it was the fuel pump. I have taken the car a few more times because of the same problem and they keep telling me that they have not been able to duplicate the problem.

Is that it? No. About two weeks ago, the SID began reporting that the Anti-Theft System was not working properly. Three days later the driver's side passenger door window stopped working along with the electrical lock system. The car is back at the service department.

So, now what? Since there is no lemon law for cars in Puerto Rico, I proceeded to file a claim at the Department of Consumer Affairs to have my lease contract canceled or have the car bought back by the dealer given all the problems I have had with it, with only 13,650 miles on it. The dealer is willing to try and repair the problems the car might have except for the intermittent stalling and start up problems since they have not been able to duplicate the problem.

The service department manager recommended for me to call Saab to see what they were willing to do to help me out. So, I called, and what a disappointment. I was told by a Saab representative that, since there are no remaining official Saab dealers, they were not able to help me out. That any claim I had was to be handled through General Motors. So, I called General Motors and they told me that any claim related with Saab had to be handled via Saab. I was over one and a half hour on the phone speaking with both Saab and GM representatives with the same outcome.

I'm stuck with a car with problems that the service department from what used to be a Saab dealer until 2008 can't fix and with Saab not wanting to help me out. And to think that I wanted to buy a 2010 9-5...

Francisco Rivera

I have much better experience of SAAB. Since 1966 I have had eight differnt SAABs, from two-stroke 96 to 9-3 CC, and I hav mostly been very satisfied with them. Riveras car must be an extreme example of a car that is a real "monday"car

First thing Muller should do is clear out some of the key GM execs on all continents...if not, it will be difficult to change and find the niche...it starts with people, and changing mindsets. He may keep a few including Managing Director, but change must happen or it may likely remain status quo
