We are SAAB: Trollhättan, Music Video

January 17, 2012 in Saabology

This one just showed up on youtube: Today Dennis and I went to the SAAB meeting at Trollhättan. It ended up making this musicvideo. The music is a cover, and this beautiful song, “take me for longing”, is written by Mark Simos. We recorded it live in our livingroom. The lyrics suit all feelings around SAAB, who we wich all luck. Music: Petra and the Hayweeds
Song and videoproduktion Petra Waller, guitar Dennis Waller, accordion Tommy Lindström, bass Kjell Torstensson, drums Peter Blomberg.

SU-Crew Comment: This is a very nice gesture towards Saab and a very nice song! =)

Saving the Saab Museum

December 30, 2011 in News, Saabology, SaabsUnited Related

Today is the last day that the Saab Museum is open to the public, if it will open after new years is depending on the will of the receivers and if a potential buyer is found that is willing to take over the museum itself. It is our belief that the museum should be separated from Saab the company!

We want to save Saab Car Museum… if we have to! This is a very important phrase, because we might not need to. But as I have hinted before we have been working on different backup plans for many months drawn different conclusions from that. I have today had a long and very constructive talk with Karl Ask chairman of the Swedish Saab Club and we agree completely on how things needs to be done if we as a world-wide community are to make a contribution of this size.

No individual organization or small club has even a chance to actually save the museum, it needs to be a united action by people, clubs from all over the world if this is to work! Even so we might not be able to do it.

Here is part of the plan which might be the way to save the museum, note the word “might”…

1. Start an association “Club”, for example called the Saab Cars Museum Association (SCMA)
2. Anyone who wants to join in and contribute to saving the museum needs to become a member of this association and pay a membership fee which will be used to cover the running-costs of the museum.
3. Clubs around the world will need to commit to aiding the association with funds to preserve the cars and cover costs, details about how this will be done is private information for each club.
4. A 5 year pure business plan needs to be established on how to cover costs
5. A 10 year plan to display the vision of the association needs to be established
6. Rules and regulations needs to be established
7. The people who will do the actual work will need to display their interest.
8. An temporary management group of the association needs to be established which will run the association for one year until a more permanent team can take over.

This is a joint effort by the whole Saab Community world wide. SaabsUnited is NOT a leading factor in this but only a small contributor and a part of the big picture.

To do this we will need the support of EVERYONE! If you are willing to join in this cause, we want to know. That is why we have created an e-mail where you can declare your intention to join the cause and become a member of the association once it starts. The membership fee is not yet established but should in my mind be in the regions of €50,- / $65,- per year. The people working on this project will do so completely without payment and no company will be involved or any purpose of profit making for anyone except to cover ongoing and future costs for the association.

Please declare your intention to help out at museum@saabsunited.se

Strange feelings…

December 28, 2011 in Saabology

Thats exactly what I have as I visit Trollhättan now in the post-bankruptcy days. I was here during the announcement and a few days afterwards as well, but headed out to work during the x-mas holidays. I returned to Trollhättan yesterday afternoon to meet up with some friends but I didn’t really get it then. After spending a lot of time at ANA (the dealership in Trollhättan) and other places in the town I get this sort of strange vibe about how people feel…

There is a lot of anger around, a lot of frustration, almost a sense of fear but also vanity. People say things they normally don’t say, the blame people they normally wouldn’t blame, they aim their anger at what ever comes around. Even though its not in plain sight, it certainly is there… An almost pure hatred towards GM is felt amongst a lot of people. Some act upon it against others who happen to drive GM cars but otherwise work with Saab or issues surrounding Saab. Words like “how the hell can you drive such a car after what GM did to Saab” has been spoken out towards people…

I sense that some people are looking for an enemy or someone to blame. I must admit, I feel it too…

I visited a cafe in the evening with some friends, we were three in the group and the place was pretty packed. A waitress managed to get us a four seat table and started to prepare it for us when two guys swooped in and took the table. I asked if they happen to be four and that this table was meant for us, he told me that they were in fact four but after about 30 min nobody else had showed up, when we left after about an hour there were still only two of them. He lied to me, such a stupid and idiotic thing really got all the feelings I had inside to want to come out and make him a target for all my anger and sadness.

I didn’t act upon those feelings, I kept them inside… Even if I really wanted to go over there and tell him off, to teach him a lesson in how to behave…

We got another table, not as good but good enough… But such a small stupid thing like this can make people say and do things they normally wouldn’t. In normal circumstances I would never have thought twice about it, I’m not that kind of a person but today is different… today it feels like very one have strange feelings inside…

But in the end, is there really a point in blaming someone? something? Did the workers at Opel, Chevrolet or any other GM brand have anything to do with the decision of the GM management. Most certainly the answer is NO. They probably had no idea about what was going on, they were simply getting up early each day, going to do a job to the best of their abilities… just like everyone else…

It’s easy to blame people, its more difficult not to… I will try to bury my feelings inside of me… forever…

Got a taste of winter today

December 5, 2011 in Saabology

When I woke up this morning, or almost afternoon to be exact I got myself a surprise. There was snow on the ground. In 2010 we had about one meter of snow by october 21st, this year it came a bit later. So right now winter conditions prevail which means that winter-tires are mandatory according to law in this now cold country! =)

Today I certainly got use for mine because underneath the snow black ice was hiding. It was VERY slippery on the roads. While driving into Växjö which is the closest town to visit my local Saab dealer, I saw some cars whose drivers had under-estimated the grip of their tires. My question to you, which tire do you use now and which one do you recommend as well as would like to tell people to avoid?

The ones I have on now are Continental Viking 5 (225x50x17) and they seem to be working well so far! On the SportCombi I’m using Nokian Hakkapelitta WR (225x45x17) and also those tires are really great!

A photo from today! =)

SAAB has changed the slogan

December 3, 2011 in Saabology

This is a short one.

Many of you do still discuss if Move your mind is a good slogan for Saab or not, other have noticed, that it is really difficult to find it on any Saab site or on any current electronic price-list or catalogue, there are still some older price list for MY11 cars were you can see the slogan.

As I also was curious about that, and to avoid fruitless discussions, I’ve asked at Saab what is the current situation of the slogan. The answer was short and precise.

Move your mind is no longer the slogan for Saab, currently Saab has no slogan at all, and a newer slogan will be rolled out when they can start a proper ad campaign for that.

Till then Saab doesn’t move your mind or isn’t born from jets or anything else. It would be interesting to hear what YOU think that a good slogan for SAAB could be.

ANA Outlet – The results

December 1, 2011 in News, Saabology

Last weekend ANA in Trollhättan. Saabs biggest dealership had a big outlet of used cars and the result is very impressive. More than 70 cars were sold, most of them in one single day. The sales people at ANA are now hard at work delivering these new cars to their happy owners.

Here is a list of which cars were sold, this gives a nice impression of what people were interested in. - click to download -

If you want to visit ANA’s website, please click here.

Here are some photos provided by ANA to SaabsUnited from the weekend.

Sunday Snippets

November 27, 2011 in Saabology, ssd

I think it has ben a long time since the last snippets post from Saabsunited, but the reasons, at least from my side have been many and different.

It is a long time since I’ve posted about the Saab Sales Data. First of all, Saabsunited will reopen the SSD section of the site, but it is not the top priority now, and we all know why. Despite this I keep collecting the data and finding more reliable sources for the registration numbers.
