Don’t come here for a pat on the back. My 2010 Aero is kicking ass and going strong. I wouldn’t trade it for anything I pass on the road, much less TRADE IT IN. Saab USA parts has nothing to do with NEVs regarding the 9-5NG.

I think you are on to something. I admit, I am not as optimistic these days and while I did read the article with interest, my concern is the lack of appeal of the old body design and concern about NEVs future and the Saab brand problem. I can’t be a consumer of this vehicle even if I wanted to. So when I say “concern” – I’m concerned about its…[Read more]

Actually, I am confused by this. You are certainly free to do whatever you want, but I don’t run a Saab blog and I have three Saabs, all of which are potential daily drivers. Why would you “need” to replace your car this soon?

  • In reply to: View

Ha, well of course, Angelo, I would prefer that.

By the way, I have to say I have enjoyed and appreciated your well-thought comments in the past few years on this site. You are a passionate (albeit realistic) fan and it shows.

I can’t put my finger on it, but something about Saab is, while different, still cool. I just don’t think Volvos are “cool.” I can’t explain it, but other than maybe an old nostalgic boxy 240s, I just would not be excited about anything they have currently. Maybe that will change. Even when I think about the 240, it’s more hipster cool than a…[Read more]

The only thing the last three years have given me is some scar tissue to be somewhat numb to Saab’s future. Here in the states, it’s nice to say that Saabs are, in fact still manufactured, but unlikely to be seen in the U.S. anytime soon. That’s about all I got however.

I went “all in” with a 9-5 NG and a 9-4x. I still love the cars, but I…[Read more]

Quiet here, as usual. One of the rear HID lights, right side was out the other day and then came back. Based on NG9-5 owners, that’s a bad sign. However, we’ve had the car two years and excepting the brake booster issue, it’s been great.

In reply to: swedane started the forum topic Center console upgrade in the group 9-5 Drivers (2010-) I found this interesting information regarding center console on saabblog.netFor picture and more info, see View

It’s not bad, but you lose the writing on the panels. Seems like this would be an easy change. Not sure just spraying the panels is quite enough for me. Wish I could get those carbon leather versions.

In reply to: Chris Carrier posted an update in the group 9-4x Drivers Anyone replaced the battery? I had an issue that apparently has killed the battery in the process. I read it’s an unusual replacement? View

Appreciating that I am in an empty room here, there were four things that had to be done. I do not believe they weren’t related. Four things do not fail at once. Either something was misdiagnosed or damage was inadvertantly caused to one thing in the process of “fixing” another:

    Brake booster
    Brake pedal assembly
    Battery
    Cooling Fan

    All told,…[Read more]

So, I’m sort of talking to myself here, but I just had some (warrantied) repairs done. The brakes were engaging randomly and had to have the power booster replaced. Then, the shop found that the brake pedal assembly also had to be replaced — that was a doozy – 6 1/2 hours of labor at $145/hr. Warrantied. Afterwards, my two year old battery…[Read more]

  • I’m totally biased, but the Saab looks the best. It lacks all the trendy adornments that will make the other cars look dated in 10 years. It’s like everything on the Aero X has a purpose whereas the others have […]

In reply to: swedane posted an update in the group 9-5 Drivers (2010-) Today I picked up my NG 9-5 after having the engine management sytem upgraded by Hirsch. It may not sound that much different – 260 hp versus 220 hp, but I […] View

I wish Hirsch was still around for the US. What did you pay? It used to be hefty, but it did not hurt the warranty which was valuable.

Depends on your engine. If you have the Aero: http://www.vtunerperformance.com/. I tuned my old 09 9-3 Aero through him and was satisfied. It’s actually a little cheaper and better now.

Not sure about the NA V6, but given that it’s a GM engine, there must be options.

  • As a U.S. owner of two “new” Saabs (and one old one), this still makes me proud. When asked, “They don’t make those anymore, do they?” at least now I can say “Oh, they do. They just don’t sell them in the U.S., yet.”

Did you pull your plates before this? Also, Aero Hirsch? Did you have it Hirshed when you bought it? There was a narrow strip of time to do that before things went south, I believe.
