• Well, last year, Lars Carlström went public on Swedish national TV, in the documentary about the factory and according to Lars, Hans Lindblad (the then secretary of minister Anders Borg) had asked Lars in 2011 […]

  • I did not say things were going swimmingly. Quite the opposite.

  • Angelo, what verdict?

The business plan developed by Saab’s management team at the time and Koenigsegg was based on the number of sales made in 2007 (or 2008, I forget which). The goal was that Saab should be […]

  • But that is just it… If you are dealing with software running on a standardized platform, that means you won’t have to depend on on a single device. The OS Android runs on both your mobile phone and google […]

  • The NG9-5′s level of marketing was close to nill. Reducing the price of the product would not do much to fix that. Many of those who saw the car and could afford it, bought one. I’d be surprised if many bought a […]

  • The Swedish National Debt Office (Riksgälden)’s boss at the time, Bo Lundgren went on camera last year and said:
#1: NDO conducted a thorough review of Antonov (including at least one meeting in person)

  • “Many people have died over the years from accidentally inhaling car exhaust”

I thought that was a problem more than 30 years ago. In the late 80s, ICEs (at least Saabs…) no longer emit any CO. They still […]

  • When the V60 hybrid was announced, I noticed it was 100000 SEK more expensive than my 9-5. I suspect I can drive for quite a while in 1st gear for 100000 SEK if so required. And I have a much bigger car… Without […]

  • How many liters of fuel does 3 hours idling consume?

How often would you have to do that to recoup the difference in price between an ICE and a hybrid?

    Wouldn’t a simple start/stop system be much more […]

  • Technology-wise: ICEs will remain top dog for several decades.

…but if more politicians panic (ala Norway), then heavy taxation will even out the huge price gap and EVs might become competitive within the next decade.

The torque is great, but… If you accelerate in 2nd gear, the initial response is lackluster. Not much is happening until it finally pushes you back into the seat.

Today I noticed my habit is to keep it in fourth even when going 50 up a steep hill. The diesel struggles quite a bit, while my 9-5 would probably accept 5th gear without mucking…[Read more]

  • Sigh. I can’t make it to THN before the evening. I wonder what they will charge for those red DI casettes…

  • Thank you Johnny for a very interesting posting as well as your contributions to the design of the wonderful cars we get to drive now!

Hei Øystein! It is working out pretty great, but as a lazy driver I find that my 9-5′s 2.0T BioPower is more adapted to my driving style. I simply floor the pedal and won’t shift from 2nd to 4th until somewhere around 80. With the 1.9 TTiD I am forced to shift up long before that and it takes some getting used to. I am planning to extract some…[Read more]
