Just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the last 24 hours and don’t know what day it is, it’s 1.1.11 – and thanks to Roy Chui over at Saab Art you can download a desktop calendar to help you with the rest of the month/year.

Here are some samples. Head on over to Saab Art for the big versions.

Thanks Roy!

Polish Saabers build calendar for 2011

October 27, 2010 in Saabology

I haven’t done a desktop calendar here for a few months, so this is a nice little reminder for me to get out there and harvest a few more photos.

The good people at Saabturbo.pl have held a good natured competition with people submitting photos for inclusion in a calendar running from Nov 2010 to May 2012 (an 19 month calendar).

The ‘winners’ can be viewed here at Picasa. They’re all fantastic shots, so congratulations to all involved.

Here are a few samples…..

If I’ve figured out the credits right, then this one was taken by J Depo:

And this one by R. Wolski:

——

BONUS – there’s also a 2011 calendar based on photos from the Saab Support Convoys held in Poland.

You can view a PDF version of that calendar at Google Docs.

——

I absolutely love this sort of stuff. It’s the sort of thing that the Saab Pride campaign of a few years ago was built on – people going out of their way to show their cars off at their best.

It’s also really encouraging for those concerned to have their Saabs appreciated so much by their fellow club members.

Does your club do a similar thing each year?

SU Desktop Calendar – May 2010

May 2, 2010 in Troll Stuff

It’s a new month so it’s time for a new desktop calendar for your computer.

This magnificent image was taken by Mioh. The picture was taken at Hjälmare Kanal and the car is his Saab 900 Aero convertible from 1993. The photo was taken during the 2008 Saab Cabrio Challenge, a driving event that was organised by none other than Jorgen T, the guy behind the Saabs United Historic Rally Team.

The image is a massive one, which you can then re-size to suit your desktop.

Thanks again to the Calendar Guy for putting it together!

SU Calendar – February 2010

February 3, 2010 in Saabology

January 2010 will always be remembered as the down of a new era for Saab, and rightly so.
But for me, as a Saab blogger, the month will forever be associated with the efforts we all made together to keep Saab in the spotlight and support the company.
Hence, it seems only right that a Saab Support Convoy feature as the wallpaper for this month. More than that, it’s fitting that the photo comes from Holland, where the whole idea started.
This image was taken by Aart Goedhart and the way the low sun is hitting the cars, setting them off with a golden hue, is a fitting remembrance of what was a magical occasion. OK, so it doesn’t reflect the freezing cold weather, but it looks good :-)
Click to enlarge and then download this image, suitable for a 24″ widescreen. You can then re-size it to your needs.

Thanks to Aart for the permission, to David J (driving the convertible) for the idea and of course, thanks to Calendar Guy for the treatment.
Griffin Up!

SU Desktop calendar/wallpaper – November 2009

November 1, 2009 in Saabology

Whilst you stragglers might be stuck in October, it’s November in my part of the world, which means it’s time for another Saabs United desktop calendar. This month Calendar Guy and I are giving you something different – choice.
The location will be familiar with anyone who’s travelled east from Trollhattan by road. It’s the Viggen-on-a-stick along Highway 44. A bunch of us stopped here a few years ago on our way back from Kinnekulle race track during the Saab Festival and the group photo just grew and grew as more cars arrived :-)
This month’s calendar images feature a new Saab 9-3 SS, which was recently purchased by our mate, Dippen. The photos themselves were taken by Dippen’s brother and we liked them so much that we decided to calendarise both of them.
Click to enlarge and then re-size to suite your needs.

My thanks to Dippen and to Calendar Guy for another job well done.

SU Desktop Calendar – October 2009

October 1, 2009 in Troll Stuff

It’s a new month and that means it’s time for a new desktop calendar.
This month features a little snap I took in Sweden whist driving the Saab 9-3x. I knew as soon as I viewed this shot on the back screen of my little Canon that the photo would end up here. It was a great car to drive and the experience of driving it so close to it’s home was one that I’ll remember for a long time.
This calendar is set up as a 1920 x 1200 pixel image, suitable for a 24-inch widescreen. You can click to enlarge and then re-size it to your needs.

Thanks once again to Calendar Guy for another great layout!

SU Calendar – September 2009

September 1, 2009 in Troll Stuff

It’s the start of a new month and that means the desktop calendar you downloaded last month is now out of date. Sorry Brendan, but it seems that time has passed your 99T by!
This month’s calendar features an image we’ve seen here before, in the original Saab Pride competition, if I recall correctly.
The image was taken by Arild. It’s his 2003 Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan on the Swedish/Norwegian border. The car is Hirsch tuned and it’s Dolphin Grey in real life, though the Nordic winter light blued it up for this photo.
Calendar Guy has tweaked it a little to add some more contrast from the original blue-themed image and it’s come up a treat!

Click the image to enlarge to full 24-inch widescreen size and then you can re-size it to your needs and apply it to your desktop.

And here’s a little bit of background about the location:

…..my Saab is standing by the lake Røgden on the border to Sweden. It was December 22nd and cold, but not much snow. The area is called Finnskogen or Forest of the Finns in English. Finnskogen was populated by Finns who fled from famine in Finland in the 17th century. They settled in Finnskogen because it’s an area of lots of woods and lakes that reminded them of home. The story says that when the border commission came to draw the border between Norway and Sweden, one Finn living on the Swedish side put Norwegian soil in his shoes and swore under oath that he was standing on Norwegian soil, and so the land was declared Norwegian.

SU Saab Desktop Calendar – August 2009

August 6, 2009 in Saabology

It’s here!
Yes, I’m loving the Saab 99 Turbo at the moment, so it should come as no surprise that the first calendar of the new series features Brendan B’s beautiful black Saab 99 Turbo.
The photo was taken at his recent track session at Oran Park in Sydney and I’m most appreciative for Brendan’s permission to use the image here.
Thanks also to a new contributor to SU – Calendar Guy – for putting this together so well and so quickly. It’s on my desktop already and is looking sensational!

The image above links to a massive 1920 x 1200 image, suitable for a 24-inch screen.
Click the image to enlarge, then do a “Save As” to download it to you computer (right click on your mouse). You should then be able to resize it to your monitor’s requirements.
Welcome back, desktop calendars!! What an awesome way to admire your fellow readers’ rides.

Bring back the calendars?

August 5, 2009 in Saabology

A few years ago, I used to produce a Saab O The Week calendar on a monthly basis. The calendar would use a photo of a reader’s car, and I’d photoshop the calendar dates for the month onto the image.
It was fun, but when I changed computers and didn’t have photoshop anymore, it became a bit of a pain and fell by the wayside.
I’ve just received an email from Joe F, and it’s got me thinking that maybe it’s time to bring the calendar back.

…….Anyway, this next part is going to sound silly, but every month I download the Saab Desktop Calendar from the Saab International website and the one for August hasn’t been put up yet. Are they discontinuing these? Are they so busy they’re not updating the website? Is another firm taking over Saab’s web based marketing? So this may sound trivial but it’s important to me!

I’m not sure what’s going on with the official Saab calendar, but what I liked about the SOTW calendar was that it was YOUR images that featured in it.
Call it another Saab Pride exercise.
In fact, I’m quite sure that we’ve got quite a few calendar-worthy photos amongst the many Saab Pride emails still sitting in my inbox.
Soooooooo……
a) Bring the desktop calendar back?
and
b) Is it OK with you Saab Pride entrants if I pick a shot every month from those entries in order to produce the calendar?
Comments are open.
